(HealthDay News) – New research suggests that one out of four men over 30 have low testosterone levels, but only one out of every 20 men have clinical symptoms linked to such a deficiency.

As men age, they are more likely to experience symptoms such as lack of sex drive and erectile dysfunction as a result of low levels of testosterone, the researchers explain.

Low testosterone is defined as 300ng/dL (nanograms per deciliter) of total testosterone and less than 5 ng/dL of free testosterone. Free testosterone is the amount of hormone not bound to other proteins.

Low testosterone can indicate androgen deficiency if it is accompanied by low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, osteoporosis or fracture, and two or more of the following: sleep disturbance, depressed mood, lethargy or diminished physical performance.

“Low levels of testosterone impact many aspects of male physiology,” lead author Andre B. Araujo, a research scientist at the New England Research Institutes in Watertown, Mass., said in a prepared statement. “This is particularly significant because the ongoing aging of the U.S. male population is likely to cause the number of men suffering from androgen deficiency to increase appreciably.”

New England Research Institute scientists analyzed data from almost 1,500 men enrolled in the Boston Area Community Health Survey. The survey tracks people aged 30 to 79 years and compiles data on factors such as testosterone, symptoms of hormone deficiency, and medications that may impact sex hormone levels.

Approximately 24 percent of the men surveyed had low total testosterone and 11 percent had low levels of free testosterone. Many of the men had no symptoms related to their low testosterone.

About 5.6 percent of the men in this study suffered from symptomatic androgen deficiency. Older men were especially prone: over 18 percent of men over age 70 met the criteria for this deficiency.

Based on these results, the researchers predict that by 2025 there may be as many as 6.5 million American men between 30 and 79 years of age with symptomatic androgen deficiency, an increase of 38 percent from the year 2000 population estimates.

“This study did not assess whether men with symptomatic androgen deficiency are good candidates for testosterone therapy,” said Araujo. “Well-designed, randomized, placebo-controlled trials would be needed to address the risks and benefits of testosterone therapy.”

The study is available online and will appear in the November issue of the _Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism_.

i thought it was natural for testosterone in men to lower its level as age increases?

Well, your thought was never wrong, Sweetie, but it is very ‘dangerous’ for men to let their testosterone levels decrease for the following reasons:

**Risk of low Testosterone**

1. Osteoporosis and hip fracture
2. Heart disease and myocardial infarction
3. Stroke and cardiovascular disease
4. Prostate cancer
5. Senile dementia

**Benefits of Testosterone**

1. Stronger bones
2. Increase muscle mass
3. Decrease body fat
4. Increase metabolic rates and oxidative phosphorylation
5. Decrease stress
6. Improve brain function including memory
7. Improve sexual performance

I’m glad I run my usual intake of Yohimbe, EFAs, and keep inside good nutrition as it pays all around. I remember my old post concerning herbs and supplements that should raise T levels, increase sex drive and give males an overall sense of well being, it would complement nicely and be a solution to those looking into keeping their Testosterone levels at optimal levels. BTW, I hope you’re doing well Mohammad as it’s nice to see a health related post. 🙂

Here are two old posts that are related to this topic:

ZMA, Zinc, Tribulus terrestris, Horny goat weed, yohimbe, tongkat ali and Peruvian maca root always are top in my book in terms of natural/herbal ways to help increase libido.

For more feeling of blood flow throughout the body look into the amino acid L-Arginine. It’s a precursor of NO2 [aka](http://www.pheromonetalk.com/../mens-pheromone-advice-tricks-tips/guys-important-questions-6235.html#) nitric oxide, a vasolidator which increases vein size and a hemodilator, a blood thinner. Making the blood thinner allows it to flow more freely throughout the body. Many who use an Arginine or Nitric Oxide(N02) also can note better arousals. I used to take L-Arginine for my workouts and the pumps were crazy. Supplements that have Di-L-Arginine-L-Malate as a powder form (best in my experience) are great. There is also Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (tagged as AAKG on many labels). Both are great catalysts for Nitric Oxide.

Thanks Master GQ!🙂 If it wasn’t because of you, I wouldn’t know anything related to this.😉 It was your posts sometime ago which inspired me to do some research on the matter. I hope that this could be beneficial to men and women around the world.🙂

Sincerely thanks and rep points to you.🙂

God bless you.

Thank you for your kind thoughts and praises Mohammad! 😃 I will now go into a topic that I know many males ponder about and I want to point those who aren’t too sure in the right direction. If you’re in need of a good blend look into Prolab’s Horny Goat Weed for a cheap but very effective blend (Trib terrestris, Maca, Horny Goat Weed, Ginkgo Boloba and Yohimbe are all inside all for under $10). It’s for those skeptics who want to try something but don’t want to shell out big bucks, I mean if $10 can increase your drive and well being I think many have nothing to lose and only things to gain. 😃 If you really want to skip get some plain Maca for $5 from NOW Foods. For the guys who want the premium stuff go for Goliath Lab’s Ejaculoid ($20 or a little less, yes the name states it all, the main experience users have is volume increase.

A healthy diet/nutrition is a must on functioning well inside and outside the bedroom. 😉 In addition to a healthy diet, a \*\*\*good \*\*\*\*\*\*multi-vitamin \***and antioxidant formula is also a good idea. The most important nutrient for sexual health is zinc IMHO. Many of the foods traditionally believed to improve sexual function come from the sea. Clams and oysters( as Mohammad mentioned in an older post) have high levels of zinc inside them, which may have been the reason for their reputation as sexual enhancers. Zinc seems to be especially related to male fertility and sex drive. _Low zinc levels may lead to impotence, a low sperm count and loss of sexual interest._ _The health of your prostate_ and _testosterone hormone production may also be influenced by zinc_ and the article and info Mohammad posts about low T levels supports this**. \*\*Increasing Zinc intake from anywhere to 30mg-60mg can also increase your experience. You can choose straight Zinc or ZMA (Zinc Magnesium Aspartate).

In closing this post, I would like to state to the males who plan on giving their significant other some upcoming “April Showers” 😉 pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, the adding in of cilantro and cinnamon and the munching of celery are your friend for that aspect. 😉

I’ll be honest, I can care less what anyone thinks of me from making this post, I just wanted to bring more insight and depth to the topic as I would like to hear our male members state they are feeling great from the information and suggestions in this thread.

_ **This post solely reflects my opinion and suggestions on this topic, you can take it with all seriousness or with a grain of salt.** _

GQ, Ibelieve i everything you said about herbs. However herbs are not all that great. Mnany males greater than 30yo have silent cardiac disease an many people have pyschiatric problems on pyschiatric med. Ginkgo biloba, genseng, and guarana have bad side effects.. On being increased heart rate which cause heart attacks. also the same meds can interfere with pysch meds.. Ginkgo, guarana, ginseng can cause a mania which is bad with psych med. Even testosterone in high dose can cause heart failure. Just my two cents. I am glad you are healthy enough to take herb.

Having read over 20 books on male hormones and hormones here is the simplest way to boost your hormonal profile:

-50mg of supplemental zinc every day
-Eat a large bowl of organic oats every morning
-Do some exercise
-Spend time in the sun

Low hormones = you probably have a poor diet or are drinking too much xenoestrogens from plastic bottles.

Herbs can be great too: especially Maca and Tongkat Ali.

Attached below is a link to an article that indicates too much glutamate can flood receptors in the male brain, affecting sexuality.

So, gentleman, stay away from the MSG (monosodium glutamate), a food additive that appears to be having really deleterious effects on men.
