Hey guys,

This may sound really weird (and I usually don’t ask stuff here) but a friend of mine was talking about an alkaline diet and alkaline water?

I’m a bit concerned for my friend as he’s been a bit moodish lately. Does the Alkaline diet or Alkaline water carry any side effects or affect medications?

Thank you in advance, A.D.venturers!

I cant say I agree with all the claims made by staying on an alkaline diet but I don’t believe its harmful either. It has to be done correctly though. In the diet your looking to find balance between an acidic body and an alkaline body. You dont want to go to extremes in one direction or the other or it can cause damage to organs. I know those on the diet monitor there PH levels to stay in a certain safe range.

The moodiness he is experiencing is most likely due to detoxing if he has only been doing it a short time. If he has been on it for more the two weeks and your starting to see negative changes he should have his PH levels checked out.

As for med interaction if he checks the slip that comes with the drugs it will state on there if it should not be taken with high alkaline foods.

Hey!

I did alkaline diet for some part of my life. There are good points to it. Balancing is the key I think. And true what tisha said, if he’s just started to detoxify then it’s no wonder if he’s somewhat moody. Usually it’s only a passage I think. I mean, if you go sit on the toilet all the damn time or even throw up, no wonder that you’d be a bit cranky!

Balancing, balancing. Diets are somewhat weird to me … Of course sometimes they can be a tremendous help! But some people go so deep into this thing and start preaching about it, almost like a religion. Oh yes, I think I did that as well.
Now I’m just doing my best enjoying life. Water is essential and those water purifiers can be good, but some cost a fortune, but then again, how much your health is worth?

All in all, best is to enjoy the small time here on this planet we are given. If that’s alkaline diet, so be it. If it’s something else, heck, go for it. (Well, no unlawful things please!)

Hope your friend will be better!

Cool thanks guys. This friend constantly jumps head first into these types of things, I always get concerned when I hear he’s got a new one lol

Basically an alkaline diet means eating more greens and fewer calories. It’s dressed up in all kinds of pseudoscience to make it sound more complex than it is, and I don’t think many of its advocates really understand what they’re saying.

If he’s spending a lot of money on ‘alkaline water’ and other junk he’s probably getting scammed.

But eating more greens and fewer calories IS healthy. High levels of calcium can bind to some medications.

I agree the water is on the extreme side. Its like taking tums all the time. Its filled with calcium and magnesium. Both are vital nutrients but just like with everything else to much of a good thing can go bad. It can cause kidney failure and muscle damage. I dont think its easy to get to that extreme just eating a more alkaline diet but combined with the water and omitting all acidic foods for a long period can get you there.

LOL that is so true. 😃

If he is not eating alkaline foods like greens and healthy whole foods at all then I can see using the water. Really I think most americans would do well to eat more of the alkalizing foods. I naturally eat more of them but not with the concious intention of staying more on the alkaline side. They are just good for you.

Here take a look at the foods listed as alkaline and acidic
[Detailed Listing of Acid / Alkaline Forming Foods](http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm)

Its not like its totally drastic and he is eating things that are unhealthy. I dont agree people should omit nuts, all grains and meat totally. Just find a balance between the two sides with the heavier side of what you eat being alkaline.

Water is essential and lots of people dont ever drink it. Can you believe that ? I am always yelling at my husband to drink water. According to the claims of the alkaline diet he should have been dead 20 years ago LOL. Of course I have converted his eating habits a lot over the years but he just wont do the water thing.

I wouldnt go to the extreme of buying a expensive ionizor or alkaline water. There are plenty of natural springs around my parts that are tested twice a year for purity and you can just pop right over and fill up jugs of it for free. As long as your drinking clean water thats fine. If your unsure your water is clean then buy a simple filter like a pur filter or one of those pitchers with a filter on top.

You can find springs near you by checking [findaspring.com](http://findaspring.com)

Ahh, yes, exactly! I know many people who don’t drink enough water. I for myself too … But now I have begun to drink good amounts again and I feel a lot better!

Yes, the pricier (I mean, over 100 or even over 1000 USD) machines are pretty “over-the-top.” Thanks for linking the [findaspring.com](http://findaspring.com)! Unfortunately there are no springs nearby me. Well, might be, I think, but at least not reported on the side.

I think the less expensive purifiers are OK. Some places have such a harsh tasting water! I find the water at my home (tap water) is decent. But for example in Tampere, a city about 200 km away from me, the tap water over there … WOW! Terrible. Smelled like bleach.

And true, all the things said about alkaline diet and “you should have been dead already” etc., are so funny!
Eating more greens and less calories, that’s alright. Eating more greens overall is a huge benefit. Many of these diets are so damn strict, really more of a life change: almost like joining a “cult” in a way.

John, I hope your friend will be alright! I too sometimes dive into stuff quite fast. I did try the alkaline diet, took something good out of it. Combining things to make a balanced, happy life. No need (usually!) to go extreme one way or another.

Let’s all enjoy life!
