Dear Experts,

I have been reading so much that I think I am having an information overload 😮

Can someone help define the various [pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/) below in simple easy-to-understand terms? I searched on wikipedia and the explanations are either too scientific or it is too similar to each other. Are these pheromones below specific to male? or females? or both? Which ones are stronger than the other? What should I look for in purchasing pheromones? Must I ensure what I buy contain all or some of the pheromones below? Gosh, so many questions!

? Androstadienone
? Androstenol
? Androstenone
? Adrenosterone
? Androsterone

Thank you in advance for enlightening me!

Androstadienone: Enhances the sexual desire in females & homosexual males.
Androstenol: Scent produced by fresh sweat, and gives attractive feeling.
Androstenone: Mood elevation, feeling of happiness
Adrenosterone: Stress elevation, aggression, reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass, yet unknown pheromone effects
Androsterone: Increases social status, commonly found in A314

(with thanks to Pheromone & Social Influence Research Forum)

EDIT: Pheromones here are all found in humans and one is also commonly found in pigs. They are all natural [human pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/), produced by both males and females. The putatives contain variations of these pheromones. It really depends on the situation, and thats why I always recommend with the known mixes (the main line) before going to the experimental MX and putatives.

Wait, I’m confused by this…

I thought Androstenone was sexual/aggressive NOT mood elevation/feelings of happiness.

Am I imagining things here?

Well, depends on the point of view. Think like hooligans, they get mood elevation, added agressiveness due to the testosterone levels and also feelings of happiness…

I’m still not getting it.

Is androstenone sexual or not?

Yes it is:

> Sexually dimorphic pheromone pathways have been used successfully to study insect olfactory coding. As one of the few mammalian species with an identified sex pheromone, the domestic pig (Sus scrofa) may be an ideal vertebrate species in which to examine sex differences in olfactory processing of a specific stimulus. In this experiment, androstenone and control odor detection thresholds were measured in adult male, female, and castrated male pigs. In an operant task, pigs were tested with descending concentration series of both androstenone and geraniol. All groups were equally sensitive to geraniol, but there was a sex difference in sensitivity to the odor of androstenone. Female pigs’ detection threshold was a dilution fivefold lower than the threshold for intact males. Castrated males did not differ significantly from either males or females. This is the first example of a sexual dimorphism in sensitivity to a mammalian pheromone.

> Olfactory cues play a prominent, yet underestimated role in shaping emotional attitudes towards conspecifics. Among humans olfactory cues can have effects on behavior. In a rating study (n = 290) females rated the smell of androstenone. The emotional reaction to androstenone changed during the menstrual cycle. Females rated the main component of male body odor unattractive. This changed to a neutral emotional response at the conceptive optimum around ovulation. The finding has direct consequences for hypotheses concerning the evolutionary loss of estrus. It is suggested that the cyclic-dependent emotional rating of androstenone may facilitate active female choice of sex partners and may be a proximate cue for female mate-choice.

However, you have to look at the viewpoint of what is written down, and that is the dangerous part of these things: Who’s writing it down, and from what perspective. Think of it as watching a football game, or a baseball game. Who’s telling what happens on the field, and how is it perceived? Which team is winning based on what results, which player is doing its best and who not. Which player is struggling on the field and why? Ask 10 people, and they will all answer differently. What experts do agree on is that androstenone helps in reproduction. And what is written down in my last source, the response that I got from my girlfriend is exactly what has been written there, a classic case. Instead of becoming sexual, she actually found the odor of TUTH unattractive and hated its smell, and so did her mother. She even became angry, not wanting to sleep with me at all. So saying that it is “sexual” is actually a very sensitive word.
