We’re not living in a body conscious age

This is the age of the mind-body disconnect… no thanks to the cell phone and all things wireless… levels of body awareness… sheer physical self sensation, being em-bodied… feelingness, whatever all that was, reached an apex during the late '70s and early '80s… then I began to notice it tapering off until now the average New Yorker radiates body numbness and automaton physicality… then they watch TV or go to the movies to see people who are trained in body awareness… virtual sensuality I 'spoze… this is actually sort of a hoot because at my age most of the time I couldn’t care less but even as a grey old guy with a moderate gut I spot attractive, much younger women checking me out, making eye contact, one even started talking to me and would not detach as we were walking down the street, no pheromones or anything, and she’s trotting along, babbling some jive, like, you’re a celebrity right, what were you in ? Cripes, I’m only hoping the Duane Reed pharmacy has some extra strength Tylenol for my sore joints and this babe is rattling some star struck arglebargle… I gently pry her off me like pulling a strip of hair removal wax off my asscrack and send the lovely thing away to terrorize somebody else that fine day… what is up with this ? The average porkable dude is so lacking in body mojo that a creaky old lech like me gets taken seriously as a contender in the game ? Well, I may a creaky old guy but I do do a lot of Alexander technique and other physical consciousness stuff, do my crazy shite on stage in front of horrified audiences, so there must be some powerful subliminal physical signal(s) both of the facial and of the body-totality that triggers unconscious/brainstem responses in the lizard brains of others… whatever that mysterious mojo is, those who make it as our top stars must have extra energy in their cerebellum or what ? I’d betcha the whole store that it’s that indescribable star quality reptilian mind thing PLUS pheromones that produces the devastating result.

Damme! Seeing the word “arglebargle” cascaded a slew of memories, thanks! I think it was my maternal grandmother that first introduced me to that word.

(Also, coincidentally my son just finished reading Tommyknockers, heh!)

I’m now very curious about your performance, tacitus! What can you disclose? Do tell!

> Unfortunately… Rolfing has gone down the quality scale pretty terribly since the way it was practiced 30 years ago… I knew and got Rolfed by many of the great Rolfers back then, who were directly supervised by Ida Rolf herself… and Emmet Hutchins was in charge of quality control…as THE senior Rolf Institute trainer… Emmet was just freakin’ incomparably amazing to have a session with… well… you could see this train wreck coming… they got rid of Emmet on some political struggle.. and they started using lubricating oils, because most of the clientele “couldn’t deal with” the sensations of real Rolfing… so I strongly suspect as a profit maximizing rationalization, they began to claim that the new, soft Rolfing was an improvement… like, my ass it was… it was easier on the Rolfer’s hands, and realitive to real, Ida Rolf grade Rolfing it is a lightweight substitute… I can’t work with Rolfers anymore, consider it to be a waste of my time and money…🆒 😠 ☹ 😕

So true, unless you work with first or second generation Rolfers who were trained by Ida.

The Rolf Institute will never tell you this, but Emmett Hutchins and Peter Melchior broke away and formed another school, The Guild for Structural Integration, where Ida’s work is still taught in its pure and undiluted form. My husband chose the Guild for his training in 1998 so that he could study under Emmett and Peter, and took advanced training from them in 2004. I’ve had work by practitioners from the Institute and from the Guild - they’re quite different in their approach.

Thanks for all of this. I will check out Carrie’s link. Any problems likely to be caused by going to somebody who turns out not to be so good? Was Rolfing very painful?

As in any other art, there are some practitioners who are better than others, or better _for you_ than others. Personally, I’ve had more pain with massage therapy than with work by anyone trained at _either_ school of Structural Integration. Try to get personal referrals, or call the schools and ask who’s best in your town for your particular needs.

The direction of force in S. I. is parallel to the planes of fascia - in other words, they don’t just lean straight down into you (which is the mistake that the abovementioned massage therapists made, when trying to do structural work). The sensations you feel are from tissue being mobilized and gently elongated, not compressed or pinched. This can feel anything from blissfully releasing to very challenging. Sometimes a stroke will be especially uncomfortable - but notice what you feel as you stand up and move! You’re always in control and can ask for less of whatever is too much for you, if necessary. A skillful practitioner approaches this process layer by layer, pacing exquisitely to the client’s ability to integrate, working with them verbally and energetically as well as through touch and movement.

The best practitioners are teaching you, not fixing you. They’re giving a whole new conceptual framework for your body/mind and its ability to function with grace in gravity; lots of postural and movement cues that you take with you long after your 10 sessions are over.

Back in the day…

when we were younger… madly experimental… so pre-technological late 20th century.. we’d try the most outrageous stuff, such as using **mind machines** while being Rolfed by one of the old school super-rolfers, guys with knuckles like Tea Kwon Do masters… they would tell me about Rolfing on LSD in the old days, both the Rolfer and the client would drop strong, clean lab grade acid and would experience body fusions where they believed that they were one body rolfing itself, turning into giant birds, all manner of intense shamanic transformative business… I never went that far but I did use a variety of mind machines to try and establish deep meditative states… then maybe go pass out in a floatation tank for a couple of hours afterwards…😛 😛 😛

This concept of ‘energy’ comes up a lot in bodywork and also social settings generally. I’m convinced that it refers to something real and I wonder if you could suggest a good place to go to learn more about this phenomenon.

Thanks.

whew, huge subject. It’s kind of like asking where you can go to learn about love.

A few topics to explore and find out what speaks to you:

Therapeutic Touch - maybe the most stripped-down, western approach
Reiki - look for someone who’s not exploiting students for big money
Bioenergetics, Reich, Alexander Lowen’s books
Polarity therapy
Craniosacral therapy
Chakras, kundalini, yoga
Oriental medicine, acupuncture, meridians
Vibrational medicine
Shamanism
Rosalyn Bruyere’s book Wheels of Light

I wonder what can one do to help friends/acquaintances who are kind of stuck in this trip (I meant to write trap but perhaps trip is better) and long to escape but don’t know how. it seems to be particularly acute with children whose parents came into money quite late (say when the kids were teenagers) and didn’t have enough time to properly appreciate the implications of wealth and how to adapt one’s life to it. unless somebody is perceptive enough to realise luxury has become a prison it is hard to explain it to them.

I liked this advice with regard to how to operate if prosperous and on the dating scene (hope nobody takes offence at the phrasing or the compliance aspects. But I think compliance is just one of those click-whirr things Cialdini talks about). I don’t like the use of the word wealth below to describe mild prosperity - the truly wealthy are in a whole different kind of game, I suppose.

[Full Contact Dating » How Having Money Affects Attraction](http://www.fullcontactdating.com/how-having-money-affects-attraction/)

Value, Attainability, and Compliance generate Attraction. This is called VAC. VAC is beautiful in its non-linearity. While there’s some common indicators of value, like non-verbals and conversational skills, where our deepest value comes from is different in all of us. Being passionate about something in your life is good for value, regardless of what it is.
Which brings us to attainability: First, there are lots of women who are very nice, very cool, solid girls who could care less about wealth, and if you make them laugh, you’ll be in good shape.
But what about the ones that do care? Let me give you some quick tips.
FOR THE WEALTHY MEN, REGARDLESS OF AGE:
The most common mistakes among wealthy men who aren’t successful with women is that they try to flaunt or show off their wealth.
The second most common mistake is spending too much money on women without demanding lots of compliance in return.
Trying to impress a woman will murder attraction. What you should do is get your affairs into order, and spend money on YOURSELF, not on women. Understate your success - use “verbalizations of lower value”, be modest, and understate your success. This will make you appear even more confident and successful.
Do not flaunt it, and if a woman starts to see you as out of her league, use heavy doses of verbal attainability, like qualification: One of the best you can use is “down to earth” -

“I meet a lot of girls with their heads in the clouds, but you don’t have time for that. You’re so down to earth and relaxed, I feel really comfortable around you.”
Then, put ‘em to work! Here’s one of my personal favorites, from my own little bag of tricks. Take out a bill, hand it to a girl, and say, “I’ve got to go greet this cat over here real fast, can you pick me up a vodka tonic from the bar? You can get yourself something too if you want.” Most women, if they like you and you have not been flaunting your wealth, will go buy drinks for both of you and then give your cash back to you! It’s a pride thing.
So work them a lot. If you’re high value, and they know they have a shot at you, it’s up to you to work them so that they can feel like they deserve you.

Thanks Carrie. I guess I feel I can go a certain way down that path, but don’t fee I have yet developed an intuitive feel on this subject sensitive enough to keep a sufficiently open mind without believng in just anything. I suppose it is a case of suck it and see.

There has also been some allusion (Panther, are you there?) to vibrational communication between people as possibly being responsible for some of the effects of 'mones. Any thoughts on this at all?

Woohoo! Full marks to Carrie for remembering what I’d forgotten … I was enough impressed with Rolfing that I learned a parallel technique called Postural Integration from a fellow named Jack Painter who had his own falling out with the politics of SI. The challenge for the practitioner is to “listen” with the hands and other contact surfaces and to “perform” an action / tissue manipulation that would “seduce” a response.

The best are definitely teaching you non-verbally .. if you don’t get that vibe, if they aren’t checking in to notice your learning style and what works … hmmm, perhaps better to start over with someone else.

Yes, I spent many an hour in the float tanks at about the same time that I was being Rolfed. I’d forgotten how important that was at the time…

My Rolfing was **very, very, very painful**!! Now, that was a **lie**! Rolfing for me was only ever painful in the psychological sense, not in the physiological sense – when a particular “defense” pattern was being attacked more or less directly, the “pain” was sourced in the terror / fear embodied in the chronically tensed muscle and myofascial tissue. (I had a fairly serious invasive surgery when I was two years old … and my body had compensated for being invaded with muscular patterns that were anything but graceful or balanced or harmonious with living in a field of gravity.)

It’s not pain like having a tooth drilled without Novocaine – it’s pain like “do I have to go back and feel all those feelings again!?” and “Oh god, let go of my abdominal muscles because it’s triggering all those nameless wordless fears.”

I stopped talking for six months and learned sign language, lived with deafies. I don’t think that non-verbal communication between people is anything mystical at all – even if it happens to be non-conscious and non-intentional.

Women? Any comments on the microscopic gestures and subtle changes you notice and interpret? The flush of skin, a muscle twitch, a slight inclination of the head, a syncope or alteration of the rhythm of respiration … ? (I ask because women, as a group, tend to have much much better “noticing” skills.)

The “mystical”, yet very natural aspect of non-verbal communication to me is the energetical aspect. That part of communication that can not be witnessed by an observer because it is not sign language nor anything else physical. It certainly is non-conscious and non-intentional.

There is definitely something with the corpus callosum here

I have a couple of the high end Photosonix mind macnines I’m using more and more as I understand the subtleties of their programming… there are many patterns used to maximize the information transfer across the Corpus Callosum… women are supposed to have significantly more fiber density in the CC… so their hemispheres communicate better… I have noticed two things worth thinking about:

A. Certain pheromones plus mind machine yield up exceptional quality of consciousness work, like beta-Androstenol and some of the Photosonix programs…
It’s like getting game on a whole 'nother plane.

B. Some of the new double induction CDs are truly fine, I tested Glauberman’s “Money” CD today.. Lloyd is really hitting his stride with dual hemisphere change work/whole mind education

What I have also been discovering is that you can use specific mind expanding programs on the Photosonix (I only use the sound portion and not the light goggles to prevent overstimulation) such as the Hemispheric Cross Talk program… THEN use the double induction CD, either Glauberman or some of the stuff from Learning Strategies Corporation isn’t bad AFTER your corpus callosum has been primed for maximum througput… I did this and the Money CD went in like intravenous injection…

So now to refine this with a maximal combination of Double Induction, Mind Machine, and Pheromones… I have noted in the past that certain pheromones strongly increased my language learning abilities, and on other occasions I have experienced movies as much richer, more satisfying experiences…

I’ve also found that mind machine/double induction combinations can put the mind in a most interesting place before hanging out with people… kinda more complex, more fluid, more nuanced…🙂

>
> A. Certian pheromones plus mind machine yield up exceptional quality of consciousness work, like beta-Androstenol and some of the Photosonix programs…
>
>
>
>

Have you found Piracetam and analogues to be helpful in this process?

[piracetam article by James South](http://www.smart-drugs.com/ias-piracetam.htm)

Giurgea and Moyersoons reported in 1972 that Piracetam increased by 25 to 100% the transcallosal evoked responses elicited in cats by stimulation of one hemisphere and recorded from a symmetrical region of the other hemisphere. (41) Buresova and Bures, in a complex series of experiments involving monocular (one-eye) learning in rats, demonstrated that “Piracetarn enhances transcommisural encoding mechanisms and some forms of inter-hemispheric transfer.” (42)
Dimond and co-workers used a technique called “dichotic listening” to verily the ability of Piracetam to promote interhemispheric transfer in humans. In a dichotic listening test, different words are transmitted simultaneously into each ear by headphone. In most people the speech center is the left cortex. Because the nerves from the ears cross over to the opposite side of the brain, most people will recall more of the words presented to the right ear than the left ear. This occurs because words received by the right ear directly reach the left cortex speech center, while words presented to the left ear must reach the left cortex speech center indirectly, by crossing the corpus callosum from the right cortex. Dimond’s research with healthy young volunteers showed that Piracetam significantly improved left ear word recall, indicating Piracetam increased interhemispheric transfer. Hmmm. yeah… I have a bottle of Oxiracetam sitting on the table behind be.. but I must tell you I much prefer the quality of the result from the Photosonix when paired with the binaural CDs and a little dab o’ pheromones to get the juice flowing… Pheromones also appear, to me at this point, to have some direct cognitive impacts so possibly the “fem” pheromones like the androstenols and estratatraenol and others of that ilk are also energizing information flow between hemishpheres, and there is a possibility that the man pheromones may reduce CC activity, making us yet more comparmentalized and “mannish”… I do notice this one strange side effect from the strongly man pheromone family, a sense of comparmentalization, socially, intellectually… what I think is happening when a man pheromone is offset with a wo pheromone is that some aspects of the man pheromone are function, the libido charge, the sense of focus and passionateness, however if enough wo pheromone is present that corpus callosum stays wide open and the comparmentalizing effect is reversed… which might also clarify WHY wo pheromones and other tech that enriches information flow go together so elegantly.

What dose oxi did you find helpful tac?

Done any diffusion experiments with nol/TAL/TAH/EST?

Have you noticed an unfortunate effect of wearing too high a quantity of fem pheromones: [male pheromones](https://phero.com/) (TAH is currently my main suspect) in terms of damaging respect for you by guys? I gave a talk today, experimenting with a new mix. Constant interruptions by guys - something I had never experienced before (with similar audience). I have also on other occasions had guys give me advice I didn’t need or ask for - funny to enter the world of a woman at least in part for an hour.
