HEAR HEAR!!!

Bravo Phya!!

Reps to you when it will let me.

I was really upset the day a TV set showed up in the bedroom! 😠

And if I had done what I wanted to do - I’d be getting out on parole about now. j/k 😃

Thank you, glad it was well received.

I’m a victim of time wasting due to TV. As a kid I’d watch hours of TV during the weekend, falling asleep at the TV, waking up and watching some more. I guess I made it get old real quick. 😛

My mom also used to fall asleep watching the TV starting from after dinner. It’s a depressing sight to me sometimes, especially considering she doesn’t sleep in her actual bed. She has made the TV couch her bed, even if it lies flat, it’s not a mentally healthy arrangement if you ask me. I used to do the same thing, though with the TV in my room.

Now I like to watch TV now and then while I eat, or sometimes I’ll regress to my old habits and fall asleep watching TV like I did last night..sigh..I try and avoid reality shows, I mostly watch comedies, or stand up.

But I do think that the quality of life would increase in some aspects if TV were not such a large part of many peoples lives.

> I agree, but I also think that we need to stop blaming each other, and just start trying to appreciate each other for our respective strengths and weaknesses. There are some ladies that are very interesting, but do not spend enough effort presenting themselves physically.
>
> Others, IMO, present themselves very well physically, but do little to back that up. The plastic girls I know talk only about TV, movies, celebrity gossip, and new thing they want to buy. Booooring. That’s what’s gonna get you treated like a sex object, because there really isn’t any other relationship than sex. I know a girl who would probably feel that she gets treated like a sex object, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s all she really does. She makes money, to make herself look hotter, then goes to clubs, to meet guys. In her off time, she watches DVDs on her laptop. It got boring quick. I understand why guys would want to just duck out if they’re not having sex. There are better things to do with my time.
>
> Same for guys, stop making making money the only thing you do. And stop making money a source of pride. If you don’t carry your self-esteem on the value of your bank account, other people can’t use your wealth, or lack of wealth against you.
>
> It’s not a crazy consipracy. You define yourself. If you don’t want to be a sex object, don’t be. I don’t think Oprah is.

This is an excellent point!

It’s much like a product’s quality and marketing; without good marketing, no one can discover the quality of your product, but if it is a low quality product, people will get buyers remorse. Being aware of it helps you recognize marketing for the fantasy it is, but does not make it powerless. The experience of opening a beautifully packaged bottle of lotion or being approached by a fit, well dressed, good smelling man simply remains enjoyable. I’m just not going to think that pretty lotion will magically turn my skin into honey kissed porcelain with the feel of a juicy peach or that the attractive men will be the white knight to sweep me off my feet and make me happy forever. I just enjoy the experience of seeing how nice the box looks on my table, holding the pretty bottle in my hand and feeling how the texture of the lotion is smooth just like I enjoy seeing the handsome man’s broad shoulders and slim hips, feeling delicately feminine to his tallness, hearing him present his wittiest anecdotes and smelling his well chosen cologne.

I can tell fact from fancy, and value both for what they are. Staying away from television, radio, magazines and newspapers has helped me a great deal with that. My mother is much like yours with the television, sometimes I cringe a bit when I notice how much influence the media had over her expressions, opinions and beliefs. Sometimes she is afraid I’m becoming dumb because I don’t follow the news, even though she knows I read several non fiction books every month and absorb an ungodly amount of information online. It just unnerves her that I don’t know what she belives to be every educated person’s duty to be aware of. Sometimes people tell me they wish they could just throw out their TV, but you can tell they feel sort of obligated.

I can’t say I never waste any time, sometimes I am glued to the internet, or doodling some nonsense or just sitting in a chair for an evening. Then again, sometimes I have my best ideas while not in any directed activity.
I actually feel like I have more time and energy when I spend them wisely. If I go to the gym on satuday morning, sew a bit in the afternoon, then do a bit of reading, go out for dinner with a friend and then attend a dance workshop, I’ll likely feel more energized than someone who just went shopping, picked up a pizza and plopped in front of the telly.

Amazing … sounds like my mother as well. The couch was her bed and the TV her constant companion. Sad …

When i raised my children the only channel on the TV was PBS … and maybe that was excessive and maybe not … but i can tell you that my grown children have great television viewing habits. PBS, discovery, history channel etc.

Nor do i watch the news except on a rare occasion. Nothing much there except to feel badly about the state of the world. Love a good comedy .. i love to laugh!!!

I do try to stay fit, eat right, read, and otherwise **try** make myself the best person that i can be.

I am sure there is so much more to post … there have been so many amazing comments and great observations … but I am not much for long posts

Ooooh, yea, actually I’m a sucker for those documentary channels. History channel is great for learning about how things happened, Discovery is great for how things work, TLC is cool for just random information. I’ve learned a lot from watching those shows.

TV for a companion. Makes a young man wanna cry. 😃 Really though. It is depressing. I’m actually gonna stop here. Not much more to say, just gotta spend my own time wisely. 🙄

DOH!
I hate being absent minded. I need to post it in plain sight!!

It is the beauty of her character and the content of her heart that is to be most prized above all.
