I know a lot of us here have read a few great books on self improvement etc… Unfortunately I can’t keep up with them all since they are spread across multiple threads.

Would you like to share your recommendations and impact?

Good idea !

The Gentleman told me to get the following book last week. It is so awesome, I finished it completely in one streak:

feel like it’s helped out?
Eckhart Tolle’s a new life is amazing… more of a spiritual uplifter rather than game, body language, persuasive but can help with every facet of daily life so thought I’d mention it!

Well I just read it, so it is bit early to conclude that. What I am doing now is constantly observing my own bodylanguage and correcting myself into displaying more open and confident posture. So that is promising. We all know we should stand straight, put our chest out and our chin up, but what does it mean when someone across the table assumes the ‘steeple’ position with his hand? 😃

This book has so many different examples of body language, I actually want to read it again. It is also full of illustrations. Women know how to interpret all this bodylanguage by instinct. Use this book to level the playing field, or at least get ahead of all the other guys.

hmmm… so really by you knowing some new body languages and being able to see yourself and change appropriately, than it has helped 🙂
Sounds good I might have to give this one a read!

Here is my recommendation
“The Yes Factor” By Tonya Reidman. I downloaded the Nook app for my laptop and phone. Then I bought the ebook online at Barnes and Noble for I think $12. Great book. Cover Alpha concepts, basics of NLP, body language, and a 21 day plan to put it all together. I’m about 3/4 of the way through and I’m really impressed with the examples and how things are broken down.

I’m reading The Four Agreements. It was mentioned in one of the journals here. I bought the three book set. I haven’t read enough of it to give a proper assessment, but I like what I’m reading so far.

I use it in BuckyStars as my opener to meet women.

So this book tells me girls are better at body language than guys. Lets see what exactly you know and sit down. Have them pick things out and then tell them they are wrong and even go to the page in the book that says they’re right. Argue that the book is wrong 😉

Great set of books. I’ve read the Four Agreements and The Mastery of Love, haven’t gotten to the last one yet. It might have been my journal that you read it in.

Some important books that have really changed me and my outlook:
The Four Agreements
Way of The Superior Man
The Power of Now
A New Earth another Eckhart Tolle book
The 50th Law
The War of Art..yes The War of Art and not The Art of War.
I’ll add to the list as I recall others. I’m an avid book reader.

Authors to look out for that you can pretty much purchase anything they write and get something out of it.
John C. Maxwell
David Deida
Eckhart Tolle

Science of Getting Rich: Wallace Wattles
Psycho-Cybernetics: Maxwell Maltz
Think and Grow Rich: Napoleon Hill
7 Habbits of Highly Effective People: Steven Covey
4 Hour Work Week: Tim Ferris
Brain Droppings: George Carlin
Miriam Webster Dictionary
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: T Harv Eker
Influence - The Psychology of Persuasion: Robert Cialdini
TranceFormations: Richard Bandler
Frogs into Princes: Richard Bandler
Using Your Brain For a Change: Richard Bandler
Get the Life You Want: Richard Bandler
The February Man: Milton Ericson
The Art of War: Sun Tzu
Subliminal Persuasion: Dave Lakhani
Every Word Has Power: Yvonne Oswald
Cirque Du Soleil The Spark : John Bacon
Influencer The Power to Change Anything: Kerry Patterson +4 others
Radical Honesty: Brad Blanton

There are countless others on PUA stuff, but many are simply rehashed and written in such a way to funnel you to buy more. I’ve also avoided any titles that I think others have already mentioned. I pretty much read a book every three to four days. I am currently reading Lift - again for second time, and I’m also reading “Will” by G Gordon Liddy, which is actually pretty darn funny.

My all time favorite books would be:
To Kill A Mockingbird: Harper Lee
Fear: L Ron Hubbard (This is not a scientology book. This is an incredibly scary book)

Stay interesting and don’t just read about self help. My suggestion is to read everything and anything that keeps you happy in life.

Great list. I have probably 2 1/2 to 3 years of books on the shelf right now that are must reads. I try to stay out of stores for fear of buying more…LOL.
But you have a great list here thanks for sharing. I really want to read the Bandler books. Which one would you suggest starting with?

Psycho-cybernetics is a great book. Do you have the new edition or the original? I have heard that the original is better, but I only have the newer edition.

I also enjoyed “Getting to Yes” which is a book on negotiations. This is perhaps more useful in the business sense than in any other, but I feel that the techniques used are fantastic. It is much better than trying to hardball somebody. Obviously there are situations in life that may demand such a tactic, but you will be lost in negotiations without this book. A friend of mine who has read this book was in a negotiation where he was the only person on his side of the table that read this book whereas everybody on the other side actively practiced these techniques. He said that the negotiations went horribly. In fact, maybe I will refresh myself with this book again.

I also have Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl. He was a psychiatrist who ended up in a Nazi concentration camp. He describes his experiences in the camp for the first half of the book and his theory of “logotherapy.” As he puts it, “… logotherapy, in comparison with psychoanalysis, is a method less _retrospective_ and less _introspective_. Logotherapy focuses rather on the future, that is to say, on the meanings to be fulfilled by the patient in his future… At the same time, logotherapy defocuses all the vicious-circle formations and feedback mechanisms which play such a great role in the development of neurosis.”

I will admit that I haven’t read this book in more than a year, so I don’t think I can presently comment too much other than to say that the first half of the book was inspiring.

I thoroughly recommend The Luck Factor by Richard Wiseman. I think I’ve read it twice now and just writing about it makes me want to read it again. As you can guess, it’s all about lucky people and unlucky people being the way that they are because of their own thoughts and actions. My favorite thing about the book is the presentation of fascinating empirical studies into luck.

Anyone else read Wiseman’s stuff? I’d love to read more books from him.

The Alpha Male Bookshelf (A RAD Compendium)
Alpha Male Challenge by James Villepigue and Rick Collins (good fitness program coupled with some character development exercises)
Any Leadership Books by John C Maxwell
Being the Strong Man a Woman Wants by Elliot Katz
Hold on to Your NUTs: The Relationship Manual for Men by Wayne M Levine
Living the Martial Way by Forrest E Morgan
No More Mr Nice Guy by Robert A Glover
The Assertiveness Workbook by Randy J. Paterson Ph.D.
Way of the Superior Man by David Deida

And if you really want to capitalize on the sophisticated vibe of James Bond (who inspired A314 according to MHarris) or the Most Interesting Man in the World from the Dos Equis ad campaign (who I believe is a TOTAL A314 man) then perhaps a nice survey course in some sophistication.
Any beginner level books on Blues, Jazz, Classical, Opera, And Ballet would be a good start. (don’t be embarrassed to try the “for dummies” versions. I did and they’re great for starting a subject you may not know much about plus they give good suggestions for building a music collection based on the genre of each book)
A book or two followed by a course on wine tasting (a wine store in your area may have them), A few Art books.
Even if the female you’re interested in doesn’t know a damn thing about these topics it can create a catch-22 attraction effect.
Knowing about topics like these act as a DHV that helps to create attraction (since they’re associated in most peoples minds with wealth, status, culture and sophistication.) so it adds to attraction.
As you build attraction the girl will actually find these topics more interesting even if she was never interested in them before.
Kind of like how women say they’re attracted to a man with a good sense of humor…but if the man is attractive they’ll laugh at even the lamest jokes.

Likewise some good books on politics, philosophy, religion, law and economics will both broaden your own world and and impress people high on the social ladder. Look up Easton Press’s 25 books that changed the world.
If all of that sounds like too much to start with, try the Intellectual Devotional, Daily Dose of Knowledge or the Bedside Baccalaureate each one contains 365 daily bits of info (think wikipedia entries) on many of the topics I just listed. Make it a personal resolution to learn one new thing every day.
