I gotta say, the raw power of the american healthcare… errr… system is pretty darn breathtaking…

You were planning on Sicko ? Don’t be so Quicko…

"June 13, 2007 - Controversy trails Michael Moore like a shadow—or is that the other way around? The lefty filmmaker, whose “Roger & Me,” and “Bowling For Columbine” and “Fahrenheit 9/11,” all put pins in the proverbial cushion of power, is needling people again—this time with **“Sicko,” his sardonic attack on the American health** -care system. Moore has been playing both offense and defense in the run-up to the film’s partial release this Friday in New York and Los Angeles, promoting his film on the talk circuit, speaking out on health-care issues, and deflecting charges that his documentary violated standards of objectivity and professional conduct.

The film’s final section has Moore in the hottest water: he leads about **eight rescue workers who became sick after 9/11 on a pilgrimage through old Havana, where they buy prescription drugs cheaply and receive free health care,** courtesy of Cuba’s socialized medicine. Moore’s not-subtle message: why can’t these folks afford this kind of treatment back home? The problem is, his stunt may violate a 45-year-old restriction against Americans spending money in Cuba without a government-issued license. The Treasury Department, which oversees the licensing process, evidently agrees and has opened an investigation of Moore and company for potential unlicensed travel. Any convictions mean fines of up to $65,000 per person, and, of infinitely more value, confiscation of the Cuba footage before the film’s general release on June 29. "

…

ah… and you were wondering why nothing gets done to fix the healthcare system over here ? Could it be the money ? Naaaaahhhhhh… it’s never about the money… it’s always about higher principles… like, ummmm… the money… $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Gimme. Gimme. Gimme.😮

in some ways you could say that thats a good thing since it will generate more heat about the film (like your doing now) before its even released.
iv only seen his 911 and must edmit that i cant really remember it, but as far as i can remember that he forgot important things like, following the money and such.
btw, if you have an interrest in films about the abuse of power in america and such the film “america: freedom to fascism” (dont be put off by the name) would be right up your street. its made by Aaron Russo, a hollywood film director, known for films like “Trading Places” with Eddie Murphy (and a few others that i cant remember)

well, anyways here is the link for the google video version (put up legally by aaron russo or one of his colleagues)

The last Congress passed the “Medical Prescription assistance act” in the middle of the night to please Big Pharma. They didn’t want people to scrutinize it too closely. One of the main points is that the Federal Government can not negotiate for lower prices. Now, the VA has a similar program, but they can negotiate for lower prices. Recently, I saw a study that compared the two program’s prices for particular drugs. One that I remembered in particular is Zolcor, since my Doctor has me on it. The study showed that regular old people would pay $1482 a year while VA old people would pay $124 a year.Nah, it isn’t about money. The current Congress is voting on a bill that would allow for negotiations for lower prices, but that chimp in the White House has already promised to veto it, good to know that “W” is looking out for the wellbeing of …Big Pharma!

Welcome to the only developed, industrialized country without a health care program.

We parted ways with one King George (III) about 200 odd years ago here in the US. About time we do the same to the new King George (W).

Oh how I wish that one day I will be able to vote _FOR_ someone rather than it be the “lesser of the evils” (ie _against_ the worst choice).

\<sigh\>

Well then at least with any luck Ron Paul will be around for a long time to teach America that there’s a little something that’s called a constitution. American politicians that do not belong to the Council on Foreign Relations do not win. Simple as that.
