I was shopping for Christmas presents for family, and stopped by a department store for some women’s perfumes to give to my aunt. While browsing the aisles, I noticed Burberry had a new men’s scent that they were marketing in full force. I enjoy their clothing, although expensive, and previously thought the scents they created were unexciting.

However,

“The Beat” has a very unique and enjoyable smell. It smells distinctly like Cedar, or Jasmine trees (a type of cedar). It reminds me of my youth, as Jasmine trees were one of my favourite nature smells from the West Coast. The smell is akin to a woodshop. Over in Montreal, the brakes they use on the metro are made from cedar blocks and the scent is very familiar. My girlfriend says it’s very “west coast man” and commented right away that it was a very attractive scent.

It has proven to be an excellent cover scent for neroli and blends superbly with akuto.

They have many samples to give away at the dept stores. I recommend picking up one of their sample atomizer next time you are in a store.

Pepper, yep. It’s mainly the pepper I smell in this.

Good nose!!! I could only smell the “cedar” /leatherwood. Interesting how the pepper is supposed to be the most subtle.

I really like this cologne, the pepper at first seemed like some type of wood you’d smell at a Catholic church or incense at a Catholic church when I first smelled it but no, it was pepper. I’m not sure what else is in this but yes, I also smell some type of wood. That’s probably why it reminded me of a Catholic church in a way? The wooden benches at church or something… I can’t peg it. Vetiver perhaps?

> The Beat opens with citrus, violet leaf and a touch of vetiver; the aroma is fresh and fruity in character — but strangely “subdued.” Into this slightly “green” world, marches what must be “leatherwood”…smelling suspiciously like cedar-cumin. The Beat’s pepper note is subtle and its woods are mid-strength (and just a tad “sweaty” and vanillic).

I notice that it smells quite “hot”
I find it well suited for Fall/Winter but perhaps not in Spring/Summer

If you like this one you will probably like Versace Pour Homme as well.

Hey neat, it’s neroli scented. [Versace Pour Homme, Calvin Klein Intense Euphoria Men & Rocawear 9 IX ~ fragrance reviews :: Now Smell This](http://www.nstperfume.com/2008/10/30/versace-pour-homme-calvin-klein-intense-euphoria-men-rocawear-9-ix-fragrance-reviews/)

On another note, I sprayed Eternity on my hand and it’s still lingering one day later. I even washed the dishes and scrubbed my hand. Washed them numerous times!!! Eternity contains the highest quantity of indoles of any perfume. Indoles are well known for being present in the smell of dead bodies and feces. Hideous.

I actually read about it in “The Perfect Scent” by Chandler Burr. Great read, and he goes in depth on a number of perfume industry topics. Recommended.
