I’m wondering if anyone here has any idea what cardiorespiratory diseases are caused or influenced by the environment?

If by environment you mean the very surroundings of a particular person then I think the definitive answer is yes.

A recent study by the WHO found that 600,000 people in Europe die every year from passive smoking. Though, I’m not sure how many of those deaths were directly attributed to vascular/respiratory problems. Probably the vast majority.

Asbestos, which is an environmental factor can cause a lung based cardiorespiratory disease. The same disease (I forget the name) can also be caused by silica which is a big risk for those in the building and glass making industry.

Another example is the First Responders for 9/11. There have significant reports of problems because of not only the dust but the mental trauma as well. Stress causes high blood pressure which can enlarge the blood vessels in the heart and cause hypotension which in the long term, is a basically a form of cardiac disease.

Short term environmental changes where the amount of oxygen in the breathable air becomes less than what is necessary for the human body to use causes cardiorespiratory arrest which is the long word for cardiac arrest.

There’s loads more factors but I think that’s all I can be bothered to write right now! 😛
