For newbies (like myself) who may just be jumping in with both feet and starting with A314 as their first or one of their first products. What tips could you offer regarding congruency that people would expect from a wearer when your signal hits?
Myself for starters I’d suggest be aware of your posture and remind yourself to stand straight and tall.

Also, try to make your voice a little deeper and louder. You want to sound masculine and be heard (don’t go overboard and sound like you’re channeling Barry White) Also around people you already know, do it gradually, if your voice suddenly drops 2 octaves your friends will notice.

Eye Contact, try to gain eye contact when you’re the one speaking, less so when others are speaking (don’t ignore or be disrespectful just wander and avert your eyes from time to time) This communicates subtly that you’re higher status.

Anyone else?

I will put in my two cents.

When talking take your time in other words talk slowly.

When I talk to my employees I talk slowly so they understand what I’m saying is important.

The walk is important, walk like you have purpose like your on a mission.

If I’m walking it is somewhere I need to be I’m not just wandering off somewhere to be walking.

Eye contact is also important. I feel people should earn your full attention don’t give direct eye contact to just anyone.

I usually only make direct eye contact with people who are managers or my store manager. If they earn my attention then they gain my respect as a high status individual.

Why?

If you’re alpha you wouldn’t care if you were laughing, it’s funny and that’s that.

You having to suppress your emotions because you think people might not think you’re alpha is beta behavior IMO.

Totally untrue.

You never saw a gangster movie? The boss always keeps his cool, while his goons laugh at the stupid stuff.
If the boss starts laughing, than everyone goes along with him.

Sorry bro, Alphas just aren’t as ticklish as everyone else. Plain and simple.

JS,

We probably have different definitions of alpha.

Let’s just use your example of a gangster movie. They laugh because they fear him. The respect garnered by those “bosses” are through fear and intimidation. Completely beta.

When you’re an alpha, you make people better. You don’t need to intimidate them, or put fear into them, because through your actions and your leadership abilities, people respect you because of that.

Why do people need to do that? Because they aren’t secure enough about themselves to.

Alpha isn’t the tough guy, the macho man, the intimidator.

Alpha is like the quarterback, who coaches his receivers to be better, works with them, runs with them, and disciplines then when appropriate.

Alpha is the platoon leader who inspires his men through his own actions, and teaches them the same.

Alpha is the one who doesn’t need anyones approval or cares about what people think, because in his mind, he knows he’s doing what’s right for him and nothing else matters.

Alpha’s don’t need to put up a front, they don’t need any of that.

**The US government defined Putin as an “Alpha Dog”
Guy seems pretty tough, intimidating, and macho to me.**

**Most quarterbacks I watch are fairly macho and tough.**

**Alpha is the individual with the highest rank. Doesn’t always have to be softy.**

**Are you saying that every alpha-male is an exact copy of the other alpha males?
None have the ability to run a mob? Mob leaders have no ability to lead or take charge? Don’t compete? Don’t care about anyone?**

**Must every Alpha laugh at every three-stooges episode?
Or can he leave the laughter for the simple minded and easily amused?**

**Not sure about you, but most Alpha’s that I know aren’t so simple minded.**

Hey to each his own.

I was just trying to give you a simplified version, instead of writing a novel about alpha.

Good luck with that though

Alpha is a social rank, how one achieves it may vary but for the most part it’s a job title given to what is often described as a servant king. Yes the alpha of a wolf pack is usually the strongest and most assertive, and yes he gains the benefit of the first portion of the kill as well as mating rights but he has been shown in many case studies to be playful and nurturing to his packmates, who likewise benefit from his leadership as it’s his job to make sure that bellies get filled and territory is protected.

You may not see quarterbacks smiling and joking during a game…but they’re in the middle of business at that moment. Look at interviews and footage of quarterbacks when the game is over or during the off season. These are not intimidating men, the strongest most physical QB is a pipsqueak compared to his offensive line. If he wants those guys to deliver and keep him untouched long enough for him to make a pass he has to inspire and motivate them, fear won’t work. I guarantee you that when the game is over he’s out buying his men a beer and cracking jokes right along side of them.

Why wouldn’t somebody like Tom Brady smile? the guy is married to Gisele of all people, he has multiple championships under his belt that his men helped him get and forget about Gisele…have you seen his baby’s momma? He smiles a lot in fact and I would to if I had his life…why? cause it’s good to be the king.

As for Mob bosses…the drawback to leading by fear and intimidation is that eventually somebody that wants what you have and feels slighted by the lack of respect you show him will try to kill you in order to steal your position. And he’ll do it by forging alliances with others that fear you and have more to gain by following him.
This is shown in Chimp colonies. A prospective alpha will first befriend the females, doing little favors, helping take care of young etc. Once enough females like him, he then courts the males. It seems that the females have an unspoken agreement that they will only mate with either him or the males that support him. Then he makes his move. The reigning alpha may be bigger and stronger but it’s a social position like being a captain of a team as opposed to an individual title like being a champion fighter…the alpha to be has to make other people like him and believe that following his lead will make their lives better…in modern society we call this democracy and it included smiling, waving, shaking hands and kissing babies.

For a more scientific argument, studies have shown that in social mammals where the alpha male position is most relevant for studies of human interactions, that in addition to an above average testosterone level, alpha’s also possess higher than normal levels of the neurotransmitter, serotonin.

Serotonin has been shown to have anti stress and anti depressive effects, which is essential when one is responsible for the well being of the social group. Being a leader is stressful and alpha’s should be calm, cool and collected…and maintaining a good humor is essential for this. It has also been shown to have bonding and nurturing effects similar to Oxytocin, again essential since your position depends on you delivering on the promise of your leadership benefiting the group, something you would be hard pressed to do if you don’t actually care about your group.

As for varying definitions, no…I don’t buy into that. Alpha Male thanks to the pickup community and other mediums has become a catch phrase of sorts. Some feminists may use it in a negative context but for the most part it’s a social position to be aspired to. Varying the definition allows those that are not true alpha’s to stroke their own ego by turning weaknesses and flaws they should be working to overcome into qualities they tout as reasons they’re alpha males…when it just isn’t the case.

A guy that’s grim and stoic won’t be social enough to inspire anyone to follow his lead and while he might bully his way into power at some point, a legitimate alpha with charisma and the best interest of his social group at heart will unseat him in short order. So don’t buy into Hollywood cliche’s of the strong silent type as being alpha, nor the imposing and aggressive bully that can’t control his own rage. A short temper or lack of social skills are not alpha qualities, and saying that they are is usually self deception.

I’ve seen Tom Brady yelling at his teammates in several games. Does that still allow him to be Alpha? His hot wife? So he’s got to smile cause she’s hot? How ignorant does someone have to be to be amused strictly by a womans beauty? Wouldn’t it be great if she just sat around all day, bossing him around and giving him no affection. It’s okay, he’ll still be smiling cause she’s spicy hot.

So mob bosses don’t care about their family? And they don’t feed their family, and protect territory? Wouldn’t it be a cliche to assume so?

I don’t see any connection between chimps and humans. Different species.

I don’t doubt the studies, but without references, they can’t be used in argumentation. I can’t just take your word for it; it doesn’t work like that.

Does every person with high serotonin levels automatically qualify as alpha?
Can someone with average serotonin levels be alpha? Or did he just miss the mark by one factor?
So, because someone believes they are “True Alpha”, we must not allow for a variance of what an alpha male is because that would hinder our personal territory size? We must ensure that we are not threatened by any possible other Alpha male, who might in fact be slightly different in character?
The knowledge we read in a book, is not disputable because our mind has accepted it as entirely true?

Varying definitions? Not acceptable? So every single alpha male that has ever walked the face of this earth, with varying levels of influence on history, possessed the same exact qualities as every other alpha male?
None of them ever got angry? Used force? None were more quiet than others? None were Alpha and intimidating at the same time? None were clever or smart enough to use physical force to conquer their enemies?

Alpha’s can’t be quiet and know how to control their tongues? They must blurt out nonsense and try to impress everyone with their excessive bit of knowledge that, in their mind, can never be changed or altered?

Who’s talking about bullies? Hollywood cliches? You mean none of the Hollywood stories are based off real life events? I’m shocked.
Every mob boss has rage? No Social skills?

Who set this Alpha definition in stone anyways?

Alpha’s are softies and always happy. That’s all I’m seeing in your definition.
They don’t need guns, or martial arts training. They don’t need to hit the gym to stay in shape, they don’t need strategical plans of physical force to conquer threatening enemies. They don’t need muscle cars or mountain climbing trophies. They just don’t need to be manly.
They also don’t need to worry about the bigger and stronger leader of the other gang who threatens to overthrow his status; because if the other guy comes around, he can simply be classified as a bully. He’s not alpha, cause he doesn’t look like me.

Anyways…
the original argument was the alpha’s don’t laugh at every stupid little thing.
If they do, than it displays ignorance and lack of self-control.

And for now, I’ll pull away from this thread. This board is too good for this kind of argumentation.
It’s simply just bizarre to see a comment about laughter get dragged so far.

Ya’ll be the alpha’s that you want to be.

And, I’ll define alpha by those I have met and interacted with.

And besides, it’s okay for something to evolve; even alpha qualities.

Peace out brotha’s

Again, reading too much into it. No not all people with high serotonin are alpha males, but for the most part it would be accurate to say that all alpha males have high serotonin. They need not be total copies of each other, but they will have common traits.

Again arguing against things I never said. Alpha’s can and do use force but they don’t rely on it. You’re portraying anything not within your extreme example as being an extreme opposite while I’m saying that it’s a more balanced version.

Historical precedent, psychological studies on neurochemistry, evolutionary biology etc…but hey the Godfather trumps all of that.

Putin may be an ALPHA dog, but keyword is dog. We are humans, not animals and unfortunately most communist or dictatorship led countries think very much that ALPHA is associated with the animal sense.

Because someone is a leader of a country or sports team might make them an alpha of that group, but often that does not carry over into social life.

In that sense it could also be said that your defining ALPHA could be one dimensional and simple minded. I’m pointing it out because by your own terms your reacting the same way 😉.

Sorry dude. Your argumentation style is flawed and making me yawn. You’ve never hung with Brady. You’ve not presented references. You’re bringing up topics that are irrelevant. It’s assumption argumentation. It crumbles under examination; always.

You’re missing the original point and throwing so many things into the mix, that I can’t even begin to wonder where this has gone.

And, saying alpha’s don’t laugh at every stupid thing, is “extreme view”?

Well, no offense, but your presentation of alpha was a tad bit more extreme than a simple comment about humor.

And if a view isn’t extreme, than it should be open for multiple different interpretations and opinions.

if it makes you feel better, dude, Alpha’s laugh at everything. Okay?

Hahaha!

I don’t really want to argue, cause it’s a good board, and cause my team is playing.

Maybe, we can just agree to see the world differently and agree to classify different people as Alpha?

Peace out Radman

How ignorant does someone have to be to be amused strictly by a womans beauty? Wouldn’t it be great if she just sat around all day, bossing him around and giving him no affection. It’s okay, he’ll still be smiling cause she’s spicy hot.

Actually,

I’ve read a lot of Radman’s posts over the good part of the year.

I guess this is why people respect him and view him as one of the reliable leaders of the forum. Steve and him were actually trying to give you a non-threatening and clearer general view oh the topic.

From my point of view, you got defensive when they simply pointed out a few things about what your arguments were. They weren’t trying to put you down or shoot your beliefs to shit. Many people here do what they do to help people out. I know I was one of the few that got coached and learned from them, so take it as what it is, people trying to help people out.

Classic Ad Hominem argumentation. Attack the man, not the topic.

It’s a clever attempt, but diverting away from the original argument.

Argument denied. Stick to original topic.

Alpha dog? Big deal. Woman are called cats in some countries, does that mean they walk around hissing at everything and licking their hands?

We are animals. We are mammals. Sorry dude.

Russia is not a communist country. Sorry dude.

original topic…

Do Alpha males laugh at every single joke? And do others follow the lead of an Alpha that begins to laugh?

Yes if its funny.

And who cares if people follow if an alpha laughs. If its funny, it’s funny. End of story.

And stop being a Jackass.

You make it into what it is not, and still use ad homenim tactics.
