In this study it says** _" **Since copulins do more to enhance the appeal of women who aren’t stunning, in effect they decrease the importance of optical attractiveness and hence help level the playing field in the competition for men.",** _ perhaps they are used to level the playing field between “gorgeous women” who are desired by men, and the less attractive women.\*\* Anyone have any ideas why copulins would be so important in men who often seem to look at females and make their mating decision based on visual appeal mostly? Im just wondering what evolutionary advantage the secretion of copulins would provide and why males would bother evolving to detect them, perhaps its the beta males attempt to avoid a relationship with a female way above his leage, and instead look for the less appealing females and decide which one is most fertile. Or perhaps its used to figure out which female is worth impregnating (or attempting to) based on how close they are to ovulating.
