**[Scentuelle is a libido boosting patch developed by none other than the great Scottish [pheromone](https://pheromonelabs.com/) expert, Dr. George Dodd, of Xcite, Pheromol Factor and PheroFragrances fame. Scentuelle contains molecules developed by Dodd that are said to mimic the effects of dopamine, a neurotransmitter directly involved in mood, motivation, excitment, and sex drive. \*\*
I wonder if it is possible to some how extract the contents of the Scentuelle libido patches onto the skin to be used as a ‘perfume’/’pheromone’. Squeezing the patch and having its contents go completely into a vial with alcohol in there might be a crude way of achieving this. It may take squeezing (or carefully cutting) five or more of these patches to make a substantial amount of fragrance (there are 30 patches in a pack). Another way may be by soaking the patch in alcohol – the contents might dissolve in the alcohol.
From the reviews I have posted below it is implied by the makers that it takes days to work (it is not an immediate libido boost). However the last exert I have posted below says, what I suspect, that there is some kind of immediate effect: “It supposedly takes three weeks for maximum effect, but I have to say that in the 24 hrs I’ve had this patch on the inside of my wrist, shit that would usually have me gnashing my teeth simply makes me shrug my shoulders… Other users apparently notice effects quickly, too, but who knows, this could also be that dreaded placebo effect.”
And ladies, you have not been forgotten. Apparently there is a newer aroma patch for men that has been developed called SFM – ‘Scentuelle for Men’ (\*\*[http://www.sfmpatches.com/](http://www.sfmpatches.com/) ([http://www.sfmpatches.com/](http://www.sfmpatches.com/))). Hmmm I wonder what EW + Scentuelle For Men + TAH would feel like – might drive a man bonkers with desire? Or for example Scentuelle + Androstenone + P79 might have the same effect on both sexes…]**

What is Scentuelle? ([http://www.vielle.info/scentuelle/what.cfm?ccs=197](http://www.vielle.info/scentuelle/what.cfm?ccs=197))
**What is Scentuelle?**
Scentuelle is a clear, non-transdermal (nothing enters the bloodstream) patch that has been impregnated with a unique combination of aromas. By smelling the patch at frequent intervals it encourages feelings of desire.

**How to use Scentuelle**
You’ll find 30 patches in a Scentuelle pack. It is suggested that you put on a new patch every day. Most women find wearing it on their wrist allows them to access it discreetly.

For maximum effect it is suggested that you wear your patch all the time (even in bed) and make an effort to sniff at least once every hour.

The love match patch
Last updated at 10:50am on 8th December 2005
When you fall in love, it can be like an addiction, say scientists, because the chemical dopamine triggers a ‘high’. Scentuelle, an aromatic patch worn on the wrist, is said to mimic the effects of dopamine by releasing a scent which promotes the production of the hormone in a woman’s body. But does it work?
FEMAIL asked four writers to test it . . .
_Rachel Royce, 42, is separated from writer Rod Liddle and lives with their two children, aged five and seven, in Heytesbury, Wiltshire. She has a boyfriend of three months, David, a TV producer. She says:_
My boyfriend is resting upstairs. He has a headache, or so he says. I’ve been trying Scentuelle for three weeks and, quite frankly, the poor man is exhausted.
**Have you tried the patches? Tell us what you think of them in the reader comments below**
I was excited about increasing my sex drive instantaneously. During the trial, it was my birthday and, as a treat, my boyfriend had promised to take me to his home town to watch Newcastle United play.
If anything was going to test the potency of the patches it was seeing whether I could be aroused while watching football.
After a nil-nil hour of boredom, I sniffed the patch. Newcastle scored and in less than a minute Chelsea scored. I sniffed again.
Then a rather good-looking French player took off his shirt and threw it to the crowd. Then he took off his boots and finally his shorts. Hmmm, this was a little more interesting - a naked footballer with a fantastic toned, tanned body.
**Suddenly I felt very amorous**
We left the match and went back to the penthouse apartment my boyfriend had rented for the weekend. He gave me my birthday present - a beautiful necklace. Suddenly I felt very amorous.
I dragged him into the bedroom and we spent the rest of the afternoon there. I hadn’t told him about the patch and when he spotted it I had to pretend it was to help me give up chocolate.
A few days later, we went out for dinner with some friends and a girlfriend spotted me sniffing my wrist. When I owned up, all the women immediately wanted one.
We spent the rest of the evening giggling as we got our men to sniff the patches, too, putting them in increasingly obscure places.
By the end of the evening, everyone agreed they felt in the mood for love, but whether it was the patch that had done it or the fact we were just having a giggle with our partners was hard to say.
Wearing the patches definitely did something to my libido. My boyfriend wants me to stop using it for a week while he recovers.
_Erin Kelly, 28, a freelance writer, lives in North London with her husband Mike, an actor. She says:_
My sex life is good - when I’ve got the time and energy. Mike and I normally make love twice a week and every day on holiday.
But over the past month, work pressures have been high and we’ve had sex once a week, if that.
The Scentuelle patch smells delicious - light and lemony. Reading the instructions, I’m to hold the patch to my nose once an hour and inhale deeply, which becomes addictive within two or three hours. Breathing in the patch before a stressful phone call is calming.
Whether this is because it makes me breathe slowly or it contains an addictive substance, I’m not sure. I am so entranced I stick it under my nose and immediately panic in case it has a waxing effect - but thankfully it falls off.
Actually, the patch falls off quite a lot. Despite the manufacturer’s claims, it won’t survive a shower and falls off most nights. If you wear body lotion, it won’t last two hours.
**I’m reminded of how much I fancy him**
But after two or three days, I start to feel sexier, but in a subtle, private way. I’m not about to start leering at young men on the street, but when I kiss my husband my stomach flips over in the way it did when we were first dating.
My skin is more sensitive when he cuddles me and I want to be physically closer to him, too. I’m reminded of how much I fancy him.
Whether it’s the power of suggestion or Scentuelle working its magic on my libido, I’m not sure - but no one’s complaining. I’m fascinated to know what the patch contains, so I call George Dodd, perfumer, biochemist and the scientist behind Scentuelle.
He won’t tell me his secret formula, but he does let slip that it contains vetiver, an Oriental perfumed root, seaweed and basmati flower.
Unlike Viagra, which is designed to work on the mechanics of sex but doesn’t take mood into account, Scentuelle contains ingredients which stimulate dopamine, a feelgood hormone that the brain manufactures in the first flush of love.
George is developing a patch for men (they won’t get turned on by Scentuelle because it is designed to only target the female sexual response system).
When it’s on the market, we’ll get his and hers patches and book ourselves into a hotel for the week.
_Tess Stimson, 36, a novelist and professor of creative writing at the University of South Florida, lives with her partner and three children aged ten, seven and two. She says:_
Children, work, tiredness, a new episode of Lost - there are so many reasons why a woman’s get-up-andgo may have got-up-and-gone when her partner makes bedroom eyes.
Scentuelle patches promise to have as similar an effect on a girl’s libido as something sparkly in a Tiffany’s box, and for a fraction of the price.
I’m pleasantly surprised when I open the twee flowery packet. I’d been envisaging a large, brown bandage; but the patches are small - not much bigger than your thumbnail - and transparent.
For maximum effect, I read, I should wear a patch all the time and replace it every day.
I stick the patch on the inside of my right wrist and sniff. The fragrance is faint - the instructions warn me not to wear scent, which interferes with the patches - but pleasant. For the next six hours, I sniff it frequently.
As far as I can tell, it’s not having any effect - the postman manages to deliver the mail unmolested.
But by bedtime, I’m feeling frisky. Whether this is because I’ve been thinking about sex all day or because of the patches, I can’t tell. Either way, my ever-willing scientific partner gets lucky.
**I have the most erotic dreams of my life**
What is unusual is that I have the most erotic dreams of my life. There’s a blip on night three when, bizarrely, I dream about Wellington boots - perhaps I’m developing a rubber fetish - but otherwise, the saucy dreams continue.
And there’s no denying that during the day I have sex on my mind more often than usual. (After a fortnight, my partner hides the patches, just for a rest.)
My only reservation is the strange tic I’ve developed, sniffing my wrist every five minutes. I realise it’s becoming a habit when my twoyear-old daughter toddles off to the bathroom and returns with a box of tissues ‘for Mummy’s poor nose’.
I can’t help thinking the effect is psychological rather than physical - but as the Scentuelle booklet notes, creating a sexy atmosphere is often enough to make you feel sexy. And the dreams really are something else.
_Abigail Blackburn, 29, lives in Stewkley, Bucks, with her husband Ben and their two-year-old son. She says:_
Could a tiny patch alter the dynamics of my marriage? The longer we’ve been together (eight years and counting) the better our sex life has become. But it’s getting around to it that’s the trouble.
We have demanding careers, a packed-to-the-rafters house and then there’s our gorgeous toddler. All these distractions affect me far more than my man. In the midst of a chaotic house, he will still sidle up to me for a cuddle.
With worrying frequency, my tense response is ‘Can’t you see how much I have to do?’ when deep down I’m thinking: ‘Of course I want to drop everything for some amorous attention.’ So I had high hopes for Scentuelle: ideally, a libido boost would help me move sex higher up my list of priorities than it has been since I became a full-time working mother.
Whether it was the slightly sicklysweet smell that altered my mood or simply remembering to sniff the patch regularly, but within three days sex was higher on my list.
And the more you think about sex, the more you want it.
After five days, I felt different physically - it seemed the patch was doing just what it promised. I felt as if I was ferociously premenstrual, which is when my libido naturally peaks - but this feeling hit ten days ahead of schedule. Yet I didn’t have the usual grouchy part of PMS; just the greater-than-normal lust levels.
While doing the washing up, I’d pout and ask my husband: “Why aren’t you propositioning me?” I’d be nudging him while he tried to watch TV - and then waking up early to wonder aloud why we weren’t doing it right then.
And he was loving it. We did have more sex than usual, but the boost to my libido didn’t always equate to more bedroom action.
And that was the one downside: feeling overwhelmed with sexy thoughts is one (great) thing, but having the energy was still a challenge in a day when I leave home at 7.30am and don’t get home for 12 or more hours.
To make this work for me, I could have done with a couple of extra patches: a ‘get back the two hours you’ve just spent commuting’ patch or an ‘of course, three hours of sleep is enough’ patch. But perhaps that’s too much to ask.

Sara:
“…Eschewing alcohol though, I’m experimenting with an oddball of a mood product that was invented by some creative aromachologists in the UK. When you read who this was created for, you’ll think I’ve gone out of my gourd, or am using it for purely frivolous reasons. It’s called Scentuelle, and is being marketed to women who have low sex-drive or experience difficulties getting in the mood. Because it seems to act on dopamine secretion, it also helps with maintaining good cheer. This latter effect is what I got it for. It supposedly takes three weeks for maximum effect, but I have to say that in the 24 hrs I’ve had this patch on the inside of my wrist, shit that would usually have me gnashing my teeth simply makes me shrug my shoulders.

Other users apparently notice effects quickly, too, but who knows, this could also be that dreaded placebo effect. I do place a lot of credibility in research where the sense of smell is concerned though. This is emphatically not an aromatherapy product, for one thing. It smells kind of like a commercial musk perfume. Not bad, not great, tolerable. I just want to not feel the urge to slam the phone down at work, not bark at people for no good reason, and not feel the weight of the world soooo heavily on my shoulders…”

Did anyone on the forum end up trying these ‘libido patches’?

Visionary, I wonder since Dr. Dodd has expertise in both perfumes and pheromones why he didn’t take the route of directly incorporating this molecule in a perfume/[pheromone product](https://a314.com/shop/)…

I suspect it may already be part of his products, pherofragrance, xcite wipes etc. orrrr…this molecule suffers from the same problems as oxytocin (too heavy) and needs to be sniffed from a close range or delivered intranasally to be effective as they don’t diffuse well.

I am always on the lookout for products to improve sex but a patch on the wrist isn’t exactly discreet which has so far stopped me from trying this.

I tried both Scentuelle patches, the ones made for women and the ones made for men. They both worked 🙂 . . . very well.

However, I would have preferred a perfume or a body lotion. I think Dr. George Dodd (a very well-respected chemist and perfumer) may have been concerned about the chemical formulation of his product working a little too well, so he purposefully made them into small patches.

The downside with these products is that they are a patch. I only wore them with long sleeved clothing during the day so people wouldn’t comment about what was on my wrist. The other problem with them was that while the patches last 24 hours, I take a shower twice a day, so I had to use two patches every day if I wanted them on me as a constant presence – and that was a little expensive. Once you submerge the patch in water, it loses its effectiveness and can even fall off. Of course, since it loses its effectiveness from the water, you don’t really care if it falls off. . .

To answer your question, yes, the Scentuelle patches can be worn as a perfume. The patches for men had a good, high-quality, upscale scent that I would recommend. I would just advise you to be careful in combining them with other products. The products that already are scented might clash with the scent from the patches, so **I would suggest using [unscented pheromone](https://a314.com/product-category/stealth-unfragranced/) products if you apply a the Scentuelle patch**.

Also, once one becomes a dedicated pheromone user, at some point you like to experiment and use _a lot_ of products together. If you want to use the patch with a pheromone mix, I would suggest getting a mix you like and trust _that doesn’t use too many pheromones._

For me, I wore the patches with alpha-androsteNOL because I love that stuff. You might want to try the patches with pure AndrosteNONE and see what happens and then try the patches with just AndrosteRONE. Then compare the results and decide which pheromone you like best with the patches (NONE or AndrosteRONE), or if you want to combine NONE and AndrosteRONE while wearing the patches.

I wouldn’t advise wearing the patches with products that have too many pheromones (like 8 to 16 in a bottle). However, for me, the patches worked well with “Instant Shine for Women” and “Instant Openness for Women,” and those products definitely have more than one pheromone in them. However, the results of “Instant Shine” and “Instant Openness” are very well documented and if you have used the men’s versions of these products you probably understood them right away (instead of like with some of the putatives that take a while to “get”). As a result, you might get good results with the men’s version of “Instant Shine” and “Instant Openness” if you wear them with the Scentuelle patch.

Hi Lillith

Thanks so much for sharing and reps to you!😉

I have a few more questions for you:

1. Do you need to go up close and sniff the patch for it to have any kind of effect on your mood/dopamine levels?
2. Surely others wouldn’t be affected by the patch or am I wrong (as nbully implied this molecule, like Oxytocin, probably wouldn’t carry the distance to other people’s noses)?
3. Exactly what kind of effects does it give on you and on others – subtle mood boost, anti-stress affect, subtle aphrodisiac?
4. What do you think of the idea of somehow secreting the patch contents say from a few or more patches and putting them on the face say? Yes it would be an expensive experiment but it might be interesting to compare the effects to those of [Pheromone products](https://a314.com/shop/).

Thanks in advance,
Visionary.

P.S. Dr. Dodd may be using the same ingredient in a medical perfume patch which may have come out already (see below)…

**Perfume to improve your mood**

A new medical perfume that was unveiled yesterday can improve people’s moods by smelling it.

The new sandalwood perfume that is impregnated on a patch contains chemicals which hit the base of the brain via the nose. They then regulate dopamine levels which can affect depression and anxiety.

Inventor Dr George Dodd said the perfume could be more effective than prescription drugs.

He said: “One or two sniffs will be enough. We’ve done trials with hundreds of people”.

It is hoped that the perfume could be on sale in 18 months.

Visionary:

Thank you for your comments. To answer your questions:

**1.** **Do you need to get up close and sniff the patch to get any kind of effect on your mood/dopamine levels?** Yes. You are supposed to “sniff” the patch every hour while you are awake. You could probably get the same effect as the patches if you just applied Beaches by Michael Vie to your wrist and set your watch to go off every hour to remind yourself to sniff your wrist and/or reapply the product.

**2. How/Are others affected?** Others are affected, but since you have to be up close to the patch or wear it yourself to get the full effect, it just provides others around you with a subtle mood boost. (I think Dr. Dodd made the product into small patches to control its effects.) The patch does have an anti-stress effect on others and is a subtle aphrodisiac. 😃

**3. What about wearing more than one patch?** Wearing more than one patch really isn’t necessary. The dispersion of the molecules appears to be time-released and wearing more than one patch doesn’t really amp them up and increase their effectiveness. One does the trick. The patch does lose its effectiveness if you get it wet.

**4. Can you put the patches on your face?** The patches are small, but too big to put on your face and the plastic used to make the patches is too thick to wear comfortably on your face. It would be great if this product was in a nasal spray 🙂, since it is meant to work with the olfactory system.

It would really, really be a beneficial if these patches were made into some kind of of perfume or spray.

As I mentioned in my post above, I think George Dodd made these [pheromones](https://a314.com/) into patches because he came up with something so effective that to put them into patches made them more “manageable.”

I would _love_ to see these patches made as a perfume, and not some soggy, watered down version, but a version of the patches as a perfume.

Since these are intended to effect the wearer not so much the people around them, would this be something to wear in a perfume necklace or ring?
