Damn, Tommy, you know a lot… I also got GIT recently (mine was made in '02) and I love the smell (I have never worn a cologne that actually “changes” and still smells so good hours later – usually the ones I had just faded away, all the while smelling exactly the same as when I sprayed it on).

I love GIT so much that I am going to perfume court and trying the 1.5ml spray samples of Creed products…

I also want to try Bond No. 9 but that will have to be at a later time… I’m running out of money… ☹

Occassionally I enjoy picking up old perfumes. I’ve purchased some several decades old that are still very good. I wouldn’t worry too much about “old stock” one or two years old. It will sit on your shelf for a few years anyway before it’s all used up.

The most prevalent philosophy in composing quality perfumes uses this changable composition. The scents are usually classified as top notes, middle notes, and base notes. (Hence the name of one of the popular perfumery forums.) Top notes are the most volitile. They are what you smell at first, but they soon go away. Next you smell the middle notes. As the “drydown” progresses the middle notes also fade away and you are left with the remaining basenotes.

These changes make for a fun perfume experience, although I think it is the wearer that gets most of the fun because he is the one that experiences the evolution through the day. Other people just smell a single smell due to limited contact time, so it is not easy for them to distinguish it from a cheaper linear fraqgrance.

Not all perfumers use this philosophy. For instance, the Storer fragrances sold at the androtics store tend to be more linear, although they are of very good quality.

> Just a thought here with buying creed from online retailers which in most cases the product is heavily discounted for a reason. On the back of the bottle at the bottom is a serial number which is nearly invisible and the last two digits denotes the year it was made.
>
> A lot but not all of colognes/perfumes are old stock which has been bought by these online retailers cheap. Which is why they are able to sell very expensive products heavily discounted.
>
> In most cases the products are fine and still smell great though they may not be as fresh as a daisy so to speak. With the creed range the millesime’s are so concentrated you would have to be a expert or have a fresh recently made product to compare it with to know the difference.

actually those numbers on the back is not the date in which the fragrance was made, but when the year the natural ingredients were purchased

they use to print the date on the back of the box when the fragrance was actually made you can see where it would go on the top but now it is empty, they started to do away with it though.

it is really confusing.

There’s no way to tell with most fragrances how long they’ve been on the shelf in a warehouse or a store. The truth is that most of these are made to last a long time, especially in spray bottles, which are pretty much sealed against evaporation. It takes a long time for a scent to “go off.”

As long as you keep perfumes in a cool dark place out of sunlight they will not go bad, that is why i keep mine in the boxes, it is the best place for them, unless it is in extreme heat they will be fine for 20 years or more

Here is a link that really explains it in much more detail

[Creed: Why “millésimes”? - Basenotes Community](http://community.basenotes.net/blog.php?b=91)

> [@](#):
>
> After reading the thread about how to pronounce the word “millésime” in French, I wrote a reply in which I mentioned that the word refers to a date, as on a monument or a coin.
>
> Well, I began to think about this… Why would Creed use this term to name a perfume? So I did a little investigating. I’ve been looking at a book by Annick le Guérer, _Le Parfum: des origines à nos jours_ (Odile Jacob: Paris, 2005, ISBN 2-7381-1670-1) and I decided to look up Creed in the chapter on niche houses. There (p. 281), she mentions the following:
>
> "In order to take into account the variations in aroma of natural products whose characteristics are not identical from one year to the other, the House of Creed offers an innovation. As on the bottles of great wines, the year is inscribed on the flasks of its Millésimes — eaux de parfum composed of very rare and very costly essences — taken from two thousand specimens. ‘A synthetic rose that you bought in 1990 or 1995 is the same, but a natural rose… well, that one changes… and then someone says to me, “But your perfume has changed!” One indicates the year so that the clients will not be surprised at these changes.’ " (Translation mine).
>
> So the “millésime” is the date on the flask that indicates the year of purchase of the key natural ingredients that went into the fragrance. Your 1995 rose may be greener, flatter, or spicier than 1990’s rose crop was; therefore, you shouldn’t be surprised that they don’t smell the same. Creed is accounting for the yearly variation in natural products that it uses in its scents. I guess, like a wine connoisseur, you have to know that the grenache grapes in year X were fruitier than in year Y, and if you prefer fruitier grenaches, then you’d better buy the year X vintage bottles. If you live in Grasse, maybe you know what years the acacia flowers were really killer, and you’ll look for one of those years on a Creed **Aubépine Acacia**. At least Creed has deniability if you say it wasn’t the same as another year; but you can’t expect Mother Nature to have the same consistency as IFF or Firmenich.
>
> So, children, that’s why they’re called “mIllésimes,” which I never knew until now… but perhaps you did…

I love changeable, complex fragrances!!

Caron’s En Avion is one that I particularly like, Thierry Mugler’s Angel also changes (in fact, I know people who don’t like it, but a single spray smelled immediately is very different than how it smells when worn on the skin all day, very different).

Even Androtics coconut vanilla is a bit funky straight when just sprayed, but after sitting on skin for awhile, it changes into something mellow and sweet (and I have never been a big fan of coconut either).

Now you guys are making me want to smell some Green Irish Tweed, dammit!! Stop making me want to smell things, this is getting annoying. Especially since I am stuck way out in the middle of nowhere with not a Saks or a Neiman-Marcus in sight 😠

It’s a modern variation on a fougere. It’s marketed for men but a brave woman could pull it off and it would be quite distinctive on her.

I ordered the some samples off of Amazon and I really want to get the full bottles but I am afraid to buy it online due to all of the fakes out there.

The list of sites a few pages back, are they all fairly legit places to buy colognes?

Hi Reshi

I bought GIT from FragranceX and got a good price for it and I was able to track the package online. It only took about four days and I am in England and the Frag was fine. I know others have also recommended Fragrance Net as a safe bet. Just do not buy off Ebay as there are a lot of fakes.🙂

the way i use mine is
1 spray front of neck, 1spray chest, 1 spray split wrists
and just a lil extra from some where moved to the back of my ears
or
1 spray neck 1 spray each wrist, and a lil extra from wrist moved to back of ears.

dabbed from finger to behind ear never ever rub!

it may be better to use half sprays each wrist cuz when you do a full spray i see all extra git flying away in the air, half spray would be more controlled?

That’s how I do it. I treat mine like gold and only use as much as will go on my skin. The spray top is the best I’ve ever used of any of it’s type. I can even pull off 1/4 sprays. Very good control and no waste.
