I just finished a series of two science fiction books about human evolution and history. Starting about the middle of the first book _[Darwin’s Radio](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin%27s_Radio)_, there is a lot of references to [pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/) and even mention of the VNO (yes, James, but it is fiction 😃). The “SHVA” children use them to communicate, judge people’s condition, and for self defense. The follow up book _Darwin’s Children_ ([Greg Bear Darwin's Children](http://www.concatenation.org/frev/darwichildr.html)) takes place 10 years later and follows the same characters.

Interestingly, the end of the book contains a bibliography of real science books upon which the premise of the books are based.

This book seems like interesting reading. I figure if I got through Finnegan’s Wake I can get through some odd language structure in this one. 😛

Currently reading about Timothy Leary’s predictions for the internet, the world of the future… before Eve’s electronic Apple had been plucked. This book functions essentially as a reality map, and has some unique word usage as well. Him + Her = Hir or He + She = SHe

I am also reading this very inexpensive book. A great perspective of inside the perfume industry. DJAndarial you would like this one. It follows the path of an inhouse perfumer for Hermes and the creation of Sarah Jessica Parkers’ two perfumes [Amazon.com: The Perfect Scent: A Year Inside the Perfume Industry in Paris and New York: Chandler Burr: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Scent-Inside-Perfume-Industry/dp/B002VPE8MS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263909227&sr=1-1)

Lastly, I am reading this book for sales/negotiation skills. It has some wonderful examples. [Amazon.com: Bargaining for Advantage: Negotiation Strategies for Reasonable People 2nd Edition (9780143036975): G. Richard Shell: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Bargaining-Advantage-Negotiation-Strategies-Reasonable/dp/0143036971/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263909360&sr=1-1)

This was suggested to me, I haven’t read it, however it might clarify a point or two when it comes to university admissions… I never fully understood why some qualified people knocked themselves out and couldn’t get admitted, while the biggest dolts in town were gliding in..

I wrote a small paper on standardized testing. The premise being only the wealthy can afford to spend money on preparation books, courses and further test preparation monopolies that the education system reaps. Coupled with testing that is culturally relevant in that each economic class is its own culture… I wish I had ‘The Price of Admission’ for when I wrote it…

A Thousand Plateaus is awesome, but extremely slow reading for me. I’ll read a couple pages and not consciously retain a bit of it, I have to go back over sentences and often I have to give my own meanings where I can’t understand what they are trying to communicate. The authors purposely write paradoxes. Rhizomes are cool though, as are multiplicities.
