I truely believe ALPHA can be taken, given, and earned. All with thier own specific +'s and -'s. I know there has been lots of discussion on what is the TRUE definition of ALPHA. With so many different social dynamics I think it’s hard to give a general definition to it. To me it’s like saying define love for me. It really means so many different things to so many different people.

I would like everyone to describe a person that they know personally that best fits THEIR idea of ALPHA. Listing the traits and qualities that this person possesses that make you feel this way about them and why you think or how you think they became ALPHA in your eyes.

About 2 years ago I was drinking with one of my buddies. He brought his uncle along who was visiting from out of town. The guy is a Recon Marine that served in both Panama and Gulf War I. This man had a quiet cool about him. Friendly and warm he wasn’t at all as pushy as some might expect knowing his past. I suspect that there’s a special kind of confidence a man gets going through the kind of grueling training that combat specialists like the Recons and Navy SEALS endure. It comes from pushing yourself to your perceived limits and then digging in for a little extra. It’s KNOWING what you’re capable of.

I imagine actually facing life or death situations has an effect on this as well. Once you can honestly say you know what it feels like to be shot at and stare death in the face…things like approach anxiety become a little trivial. He doesn’t sweat the small shit…and to him, it’s ALL small shit.

Now I’m not suggesting that the only way to develop alpha qualities is to go out for Special Forces or Army Ranger training or anything like that. Military service is not for everyone. There’s two major things that people can work on to develop similar qualities.
The first is learning to push yourself to your true limits…and knowing that what you may think are your limits at first, are simply the boundaries of your comfort zone. David Deida touches on this when he talks about living at your edge.
The other is facing your fears, consider the things that scare you the most and embrace them. Particularly the fear of death. The Samurai believed that a man could not be truly free until he freed himself from the fear of death.

There are other qualities of character and personality that a person can develop but I think these two aspects are so rare among men in the modern age that working on these two alone would go a long way toward creating an exceptional man.

I would have to say my father. My father was more of a social/sports ALPHA. I just always remembered that everyone wanted to be around my dad and usually followed his lead. Now he just sits on the couch and works, but back in his younger days he was very social and outgoing. I guess being well liked doesn’t make you ALPHA, but there was more to it. People tended to want social proofing from my father. Now with my understanding of the whole ALPHA dynamic I think this qualifies. My father got mass respect in certain aspects of his social life. He wasn’t always ALPHA in every situation in his life, but in certain areas that I was around constantly he definitely was. I think I learned a lot socially from my father and how to lead in the area of sports. Now that I no longer play sports often I have tried to incorporate those traits into the workplace. I think it’s been said before, but not all people are ALPHA in all aspects of their life and some are. I don’t think either makes them more or less ALPHA.

Ok… If you DON’T KNOW A REAL PERSON would it be more fun to pick a celebrity 😛 Thought I could get some general characteristics from a broad spectrum of what traits people thought in THEIR mind was ALPHA, guess not. Nobody must know anyone ALPHA or doesn’t wanna describe them. OH well this thread will die soon ☹

I collect and read comic books. Nerdy and immature I know but see I grew up without a dad and in the absence of a positive male role model I found myself turning to comic books and action movies as templates of what a man should be like.
When I first started learning about the Alpha Male as a concept I tried to attach it to comic characters. Batman has a lot of Alpha qualities but I think in the end he’s too anti social, even among other hero’s his nature is more that of a lone wolf that reluctantly works with others. Captain America was more the ideal Alpha Male for my definition. He’s a guy that’s so passionate about his beliefs and supportive of his friends that he naturally falls into the leadership position with his group and heroes as powerful as Thor or Iron Man follow his orders without hesitation in spite of being several times more powerful than he is.

Rad likes this game 🆒… Captain America…Good choice!

I would have to say when I saw the movie [3:10 To Yuma](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381849/) Christian Bale’s character epitomizes the term ALPHA. The characters own son practically turns against him in favor of an outlaw and he never waivers. I don’t want to spoil the movie for those who haven’t seen it, but this is a very ALPHA male/role model type movie. Actually I could spoil the movie since it seems RAD and myself are the only one’s taking part in this 😃

While watching the “DEEP INNER GAME” stuff by David D. they talked about movie characters and I made a list of ALPHA/role model type movies and this movie is on the TOP of that list.

My Daddy,
A Man that feeded me, clothe me, whipped my ass when I was bad and loved me when I was in trouble. A Man that’s been with the same woman for 56 yrs. Builted her a house and when the keys were handed to him, that house was paid for (no mortage for us younger people).

I once gave my Daddy ten thousand dollars to hold for me (internal revenue problems). About eight years later I asked him for the money back. He gave me the same bag, with the same rubber band around it, with the same hundred dollar bills inside.

No [pheromones](https://a314.com/shop/) made could ever created that Alpha Man, Thank you for this post, I just realize that I don’t see him enough and I could never tell him that I love him enough.

He’ll be 79 yrs old next month (Feb 20, 1932)

I love you, Daddy

James Bond. Captain Kirk (shatner’s portrayal from the original tv series). Jack O’neill (Stargate SG-1). Superman. Batman (though the more ‘mysterious, quiet’ type of alpha). Captain America. Jack Slater (Ah-nuld’s character) from ‘Last Action Hero’. Hercules.

Hey guys

An alpha male to me is one who controls his emotions and doesn’t let emotions control him, whether it is in good times or bad.

God bless

An alpha male is a strong leader. Good leaders posses confidence, wisdom and charisma. He should also be humble. Most people can tell if you are alpha in the first 3 minutes of meeting you ie. eye contact, good posture, and a firm handshake.

Another thing about Alphas is the emotional control… They are the only ones that can effect their emotions, no one else has power over their reactions.

Eastwood’s ‘man with no name’ character… ahh… now that’s one bad mutha.

He’s almost an OD of a314. Kinda like the Terminator would be. He’s also the basis for a certain awesome Stephen King character…

**the man in black fled across the desert, and the _gunslinger_ followed…**
