The answer seems obvious, but I’m interested to see how things differ at various levels. I am interested in the general response of girls from 19-24 but I’d love to hear from everyone 🙂

These are my assumptions
Don’t know the guy: creepy
Know him very little and not into him: turn off

This is what I’d like to know. It can be preference, but what is _your_ preference? If we were talking at these various stages, and I told you that you were cute, good looking, etc. how would you react?

Good friends, but thats it:
Good friends with flirty conversation (but not into him yet):
I’m into him, but there is another guy I like more:

thanks ladies 😃

It’d be fine with me, as long as they didn’t show other signs of wanting to push the boundaries. If I knew he was trying to, it would probably be uncomfortable. ☹

So he’s showing signs of liking me, but I don’t like him back (yet)?? I guess that implies I’m okay with him liking me, so I’d be okay with him calling be cute, too.

I would find it flattering!

In general, it would be the _way_ that they said it that matters. As well as their behaviour other than this that would make it a turn off, or make him seem creepy/seedy. In most cases, I’d just take it as a compliment and thank them.

I’m 18; I hope this helps a little bit? 🙂

If a stranger in his 20s/ 30s says this to me: I would be a flattered, but won’t act much on it because his is a stranger after all LOL

If a stranger above 50 says this to me: WOW, this is creepy LOL. Might be a bit flattered, but I would run first

If I know him very little, I might grow interest in him but really depends of who he is…If he is not my type, this won’t turn me off particularly because my feeling towards him is never on. LOL

Good friends, but thats it: Flattered, but that’s it.
Good friends with flirty conversation (but not into him yet): flattered, the growth of interest really depends on how he fits into my preference
I’m into him, but there is another guy I like more: My interest in him would certainly grow 😛 it’s always nice to know that I am appreciated by the person I care

Telling a girl that she’s cute is good. The important thing is how you tell her. If you tell her in a polite way, she is very likely to accept your compliment and be flattered. Just don’t look at her boobs or whatever and say it while mouth watering…

That was actually, _really_ informative, both of you! Spinach, your age certainly helps where I am going with this (Epic name btw) so thanks for mentioning it.

What I meant with the flirty thing is complicated. In the past, I have always managed to get to a position where I can flirt a lot and get the same back, but sometimes when I go ahead and ask her out, she is against it or politely says no. If I am at that point, I would assume the success rate of landing a date would be 100% (or at least up there). For these situations, I was hoping I could start complimenting her in a way that sort of shows my feelings (cute, etc) before going in for the kill. This is why I made this post (and so far the answers are interesting so please keep them coming!)

Any advice for me?

I don’t think that’s a reasonable assumption. A girl might flirt with you because she has fun flirting with you. She still might have a boyfriend and say no when you ask her out.

What your emotional state in the moment that you ask her out? Do you yourself feel some hesitation?

Flirting in itself is not a IOI unless accompanied by other indicators. Some people are just outgoing and flirtatious. Some just like the give and take interaction without getting into anything serious.

I am not in your age group but I think its safe to say that all women and men for that matter like to be complimented. It doesn’t matter whether your into the person or not. As long as they don’t come on to strong and dont accompany that compliment with other odd behavior like to much kino or forward body language women don’t get creeped out. Its just another example of “Its not what you say its how you say it”

Compliments by the way are not really flirtation. However women tend to flirt more when complimented not because they are into you but because they are into the compliment. So basically a compliment given to soon in a relationship can create false indicators.

This is very well said.
Sometimes there’s no further intention behind the flirtation. To be honest, I flirt with my male friend on whom I have no interest at all. When people are in a good mood, flirtation is just like an extra spice that increases the pleasure in a conversation. Anyways, there’s no harm to give out compliments and use them as your first step to start a relationship. When and how you give out compliments to the girl is the crucial thing. 🙂

I don’t mind one or two compliments some people do get annoying then the flirting becomes rather obnoxious.

If a guy at any time tells me I’m cute or good looking it is automatically a compliment. Every girl likes to hear that they are attractive no matter who it’s coming from. The reactions vary with a lot of factors, my guy preferences, the implication behind the compliment/how often you compliment me, and how well I know them.

If I know you well, find you attractive, and you are implying something more than just a kind compliment I will take this as an opportunity to pursue you further. I also realize that you’re admittance of my attractiveness gives me the upper hand in the whole relationship. I will give you attention to keep you around to see how things can turn out and if I can see something greater than just a friend ship can stem out of this. If I see that there is a possibility for furthering our relationship I will then move forward and begin flirting more.

If I know you well, find you attractive, and see the compliment as what it is, just a plain compliment. I will proceed with caution and continue to fish around for more clues and hints to your feelings towards me. All the while, keeping my distance, occasionally showing signs of interest that you would only pick up on if you were looking to see if I were interested as well.

If I know you well, don’t find you attractive, and feel you are implying something more than just a compliment then I will take a couple steps back and keep my distance. I enjoy my friend ship with you and do not wish to compromise it by accidentally provoking you to proceed with your implications. Hopefully, you begin to understand that I am not interested and you will give up.

If I know you well, don’t find you attractive, and feel you aren’t necessarily implying anything by the compliment I will take it as it is. A compliment from a friend that I wish to keep as a friend. I will say my thank you, and not lead you on in any way by furthering on the subject.

If I don’t know you well, find you attractive, and feel you are implying something I might try to get to know you more. Proceeding with caution because I’m not familiar with who you are, maybe try to get to know you on more friendly terms before trying anything misleading. Since I don’t know you well enough to decide if I would like to take it to another level I might not come off as interested at first. You can normally get a pretty good feel for what kind of person a guy is pretty fast, so it won’t take long for me to decide if I want to become flirty or if I want to friend zone you.

If I don’t know you well, don’t find you attractive, and feel you are implying something and you compliment me too often, I will label you as a creep. Back off and try the friend approach and maybe I will get to know you and we can be friends. Being as though I’m not attracted, I will most likely not develop feelings.

If I don’t know you well, don’t find you attractive, and feel you aren’t implying anything I will also go the friend route and take the compliment for what it is, a plain compliment coming from a stranger that I could maybe turn into a friend.

If I’m into another guy or I’m in a relationship with another guy, its still nice to see that I’m desirable. If I’m in a relationship I will make it clear I’m not interested, so not to cause any possible turmoil in my relationship, or my current friend ship with you. Everything I’ve explained implies to being in to another guy as well.

I don’t think you should be afraid of complimenting a girl, ever. Any guy that has ever complimented me I’ve labeled as kind, good guy, which is NEVER a bad thing. Obviously not every girl you come across is gonna fall in love with you, but you have to be able to take the risk to find someone worth while. The most beautiful relationship I’ve ever had came from a guy taking a risk, if he had never taken that risk I’m sure we would have never gotten together. Which is sad when you think about it.

Use your [pheromones](https://a314.com/shop/) to your advantage! I’m not as familiar with whats available out there for guys but if its anything like what’s available for girls then I’m sure its working some magic and opening doors for you.

Good luck with everything and don’t be afraid to come back and ask more questions on here, I love giving guys advice and insight to the female mind, especially if it can be beneficial to them understanding us just a teensy bit more. 😉
