> **[Type 1 - The Reformer](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type1.php)**
>
> **Perfectionists, responsible, fixated on improvement**
> Ones are essentially looking to make things better, as they think nothing is ever quite good enough. This makes them perfectionists who want to reform and improve, who desire to make order out of the omnipresent chaos. > **[Type 2 - The Helper](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type2.php)**
>
> **Helpers who need to be needed**
> Twos essentially feel that they are worthy insofar as they are helpful to others. Love is their highest ideal. Selflessness is their duty. Giving to others is their reason for being. Involved, socially aware, usually extroverted, Twos are the type of people who remember everyone’s birthday and who go the extra mile to help out a co-worker, spouse or friend in need. > **[Type 3 - The Achiever](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type3.php)**
>
> **Focused on the presentation of success, to attain validation**
> Threes need to be validated in order to feel worthy; they pursue success and want to be admired. They are frequently hard working, competetive and are highly focused in the pursuit of their goals, whether their goal is to be the most successful salesman in the company or the “sexiest” woman in their social circle. > **[Type 4 - The Individualist](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type4.php)**
>
> **Identity seekers, who feel unique and different**
> Fours build their identities around their perception of themselves as being somehow different or unique; they are thus self-consciously individualistic. They tend to see their difference from others as being both a gift and a curse - a gift, because it sets them apart from those they perceive as being somehow “common,” and a curse, as it so often seems to separate them from the simpler forms of happiness that others so readily seem to enjoy. > **[Type 5 - The Investigator](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type5.php)**
>
> **Thinkers who tend to withdraw and observe**
> Fives essentially fear that they don’t have enough inner strength to face life, so they tend to withdraw, to retreat into the safety and security of the mind where they can mentally prepare for their emergence into the world. Fives feel comfortable and at home in the realm of thought. They are generally intelligent, well read and thoughtful and they frequently become experts in the areas that capture their interest. > **[Type 6 - The Loyalist](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type6.php)**
>
> **Conflicted between trust and distrust**
> Sixes essentially feel insecure, as though there is nothing quite steady enough to hold onto. At the core of the type Six personality is a kind of fear or anxiety. Sixes don’t trust easily; they are often ambivalent about others, until the person has absolutely proven herself, at which point they are likely to respond with steadfast loyalty. > **[Type 7 - The Enthusiast](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type7.php)**
>
> **Pleasure seekers and planners, in search of distraction**
> Sevens are essentially concerned that their lives be an exciting adventure. They are future oriented, restless people who are generally convinced that something better is just around the corner. They are quick thinkers who have a great deal of energy and who make lots of plans. They tend to be extroverted, multi-talented, creative and open minded. > **[Type 8 - The Challenger](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type8.php)**
>
> **Taking charge, because they don’t want to be controlled**
> Eights are essentially unwilling to be controlled, either by others or by their circumstances; they fully intend to be masters of their fate. Eights are strong willed, decisive, practical, tough minded and energetic. They also tend to be domineering; their unwillingness to be controlled by others frequently manifests in the need to control others instead. > **[Type 9 - The Peacemaker](http://www.eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/type9.php)**
>
> **Keeping peace and harmony**
> Nines essentially feel a need for peace and harmony. They tend to avoid conflict at all costs, whether it be internal or interpersonal. As the potential for conflict in life is virtually ubiquitous, the Nine’s desire to avoid it generally results in some degree of withdrawal from life, and many Nines are, in fact, introverted. Other Nines lead more active, social lives, but nevertheless remain to some to degree “checked out,” or not fully involved, as if to insulate themselves from threats to their peace of mind. I’m a 4 through and through. I can distinctly remember when I decided for myself that the things I liked were the things that were ‘unique’ somehow from everyone else.

While everyone’s being flashy, I think, ya know, I like being sleek and understated. While everyone’s being ‘mainstream’ I think, I’ll be primal, hardcore, edgy. Inevitably, this comes to the point where, I ‘have’ to be different compared to everyone else, so I end up psychically isolating myself.

This thread could probably draw upon the Myer-Briggs thread as well.

I don’t remember what I wrote originally, but I’d guess that the top three were p79, IH, and IS.

I’m a 5 with 4 wing subtype SX (Investigator/Individualist - Instinctual Drive towards Intimacy). I also scored high in 8 and 3.

I prefer the physical pheromones over the cerebral ones. Hate the talky ones… love the sensual ones… can’t stand the ones that mute down emotional or physical responses… adore the bonding ones.

I took the test & my dominant traits are a tie between 6 & 9 with 5 coming in as a close second 🙂

Guess that means I’m a loyal peacemaker with a cerebral investigator twist 🙄

**Type Six
 _[The Loyalist](http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/TypeSix.asp)_**
The committed, security-oriented type. Sixes are reliable, hard-working, responsible, and trustworthy. Excellent “troubleshooters,” they foresee problems and foster cooperation, but can also become defensive, evasive, and anxious—running on stress while complaining about it. They can be cautious and indecisive, but also reactive, defiant and rebellious. They typically have problems with self-doubt and suspicion. **At their Best:** internally stable and self-reliant, courageously championing themselves and others.

**Type Nine
 _[The Peacemaker](http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/TypeNine.asp)_**
The easy-going, self-effacing type. Nines are accepting, trusting, and stable. They are usually creative, optimistic, and supportive, but can also be too willing to go along with others to keep the peace. They want everything to go smoothly and be without conflict, but they can also tend to be complacent, simplifying problems and minimizing anything upsetting. They typically have problems with inertia and stubbornness. **At their Best:** indomitable and all-embracing, they are able to bring people together and heal conflicts.

**Type Five
 _[The Investigator](http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/TypeFive.asp)_**
The perceptive, cerebral type. Fives are alert, insightful, and curious. They are able to concentrate and focus on developing complex ideas and skills. Independent, innovative, and inventive, they can also become preoccupied with their thoughts and imaginary constructs. They become detached, yet high-strung and intense. They typically have problems with eccentricity, nihilism, and isolation. **At their Best:** visionary pioneers, often ahead of their time, and able to see the world in an entirely new way.
