Well I figured I could use some input concerning various “what to wear” questions so I figured I would start this thread.

My own questions start in the next post, but it’s open to all who might need an opinion or question answered.
🆒

Okay here’s the deal. I’m about to embark on replacing my wardrobe. But I’ve been out of the loop for quite a while and not sure about a few things.

Due to various considerations I’ve been wearing regular slacks/pants, but am thinking of trying jeans for a change. Now the last time I wore jeans was about 1965.

Here’s the big problem. I have what is called a “stocky” build. My arms and legs are shorter than average so finding stuff that fits is tough. I went with slacks for years because they were easy to have the legs shortened (even the smallest inseams I usually found were too long). The jeans are another problem, because the leg bottoms I’m finding are usually finished/stitched.

I know cuffed jeans are making a comeback, but I’m not too sure. Is it acceptable to turn up the bottoms in a cuff nowadays? Or if I have them shortened by just turning them up inside the leg (and securing them) and losing the “finishing stitching” be a no no? (like you’d do with “regular” slacks) Trying to find reasonably priced quality jeans in the proper length seems to be near impossible for me. (I’ve seen some in the proper length from some lower-quality but higher-priced catalog mail order places).

Now if I was uder 20, having jeans that dragged on the floor may be okay, dawg, but at 50+ I think it’s sorta out. Would also be considered a hazard on the job.

Give me feedback people.

lol

one my friends is real big on fashion, so I tend to learn about whats going on in the fashion world, though I really don’t care much. Anyway all I hear about from him lately is ‘RAW DENIM’…As I understand it, and maybe someone here knows better than I, its a pair of jeans made of unprocessed, ‘unwashed’ denim.

Basically he has own one pair of raw denim jeans for the past couple of months, which he wears just about everyday…and get this…he HAS NEVER WASHED THEM. Can you imagine the natural [pheromone](https://pheromonelabs.com/) build-up on that pair of jeans? lol

The idea is to wear the jeans for a long enough duration that they start conform to the natural countours of your lower body..all the little wrinkles, and fade marks, holes and what not that people pay extra for when they buy jeans, will develop naturally on them.

To top things off, after about 6 months of breaking the raw denim in, you fill the bathtub up with hot water, and wear the jeans IN THE TUB for an hour, until they fully conform to your body.

It seems a little bit silly to me, but hey thats his thing and I can’t hate on him for that. It does seem economically more practical to own a single pair of jeans that you’re actually _supposed_ to wear everyday…I just don’t think I’m dedicated enough to my jeans to go through all the trouble

Rbt, if you take your too-long jeans to a tailor (or most drycleaners have someone who does alterations) they can hem your jeans with the authentic gold thread. That’s the best solution and will probably cost 8-10 bucks. Otherwise, you could just hem them up yourself or get a friend with a sewing machine to do it for you. Turning up a cuff I don’t think is going to work very well for you. For one thing, it will make your legs look short.

Sigma, omg. Your friend is building himself one skanky pair of pants. [Pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/) my ass.

How about having someone needle-savvy (professionals) re-stitch the jeans to a more fitting length? Shouldn’t cost you your shirt, and they’ll use the same color thread so it won’t show.
I’ve done this on a couple of designer jeans that were too long, when the shorter ones were sold out.
Results were perfect.

Combining jeans with a blazer and a cap seems to be pretty trendy right now (in europe at least). Don’t buy things with flashy colors (yellow, orange, violet) and try to match two colors (ex: brown blazer with brown cap). Leather blazers are always trendy but unless you’re more than 20 or have a bike, don’t use it (kind of trying to hard to impress). Most important of all things, dont’ use white socks unless you’re jogging.
One last thing, it’s amazing how much money you can save if you buy stuff from ebay. I know that a lot of people are reluctante of buying online, but I saved more than 500 euros just in the last 3 months (when I began buying online) and nothing came broken. You have to buy from registered stores to avoid fakes. And if anything doesn’t suit you, you can always follow the previous suggestion and go to the tailor.:o
I realize that not everyone agrees with my fashion sense (some might critisize) but that’s just my honest opinion (and works for me).😉

I find jeans interesting. While I won’t pay $200 for a pair of jeans, that’s where the high end of the market is, and some even higher. I can even appreciate some of those styles, I just don’t want to wear them myself.

Levis cost from $45 to $150 – classics, but I’m not interested in pre-stressed, stone-washed, crunched and etc. etc.

So, I now buy “Dickies” for casual wear for about $20, but oversized; my tailor charges me about $40 to alter them – adjust and finish the leg length, and fit the waist, crotch and butt to me, not to a theoretical model. The color of my jeans is not the perfect “indigo” of Levis, but I’m more comfortable expressing my style through the fit than through the fabric treatment or dye.

Levis was, a decade ago, on the road to mass customization at one point, but seems to have abandoned that strategy. I would have loved being able to click in to my personal profile and have two or three pair made to order. Tsk.

I’m used to having my slacks altered all the time, which adds about $10-$15 to the final price, but they are usually an “easy” stitch with just standard thread.

I suspect the same tailor I use for those could also match the jeans, but I’m sure it will be a bit more money for the heavier material, thread, and color matching. I’m trying to be as frugal as possible. Hoping I could get by cheap as I’m not even sure I will like the jeans well enogh to continue wearing them. Oh well. Maybe just have to take a chance. We shall see.

Saw some “kids” today with jeans that had the ass down around the back of the knee. They may think it’s cool. All I could think of was “diapers.”

If you’re not that tall, it’s best not to wear tapered jeans, they’ll only make your legs look shorter. And you can find a pair that that will not drag on the ground, but you don’t want them at the ankle either. Best to cover most of the heel.

Cuffed jeans also make legs look shorter – which is a shame for me. My favorite pair are cuffed (I wear them anyway). But if you’re wanting your legs to look longer, or at least not cinched off – best to go for straight leg or mild boot cut.

I agree with the tailoring. Find a pair that you really like and that fit everywhere else, but get them shortened.

Do I watch What Not To Wear? Yes, I do. It’s for women, but some of it applies for men as well. And speaking of which you can also watch reruns of shows like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. They may give fashion tips for that season, but also classic choices.

I have to admit, I drool over a guy who is wearing a blazer with a good pair of jeans and a cool t-shirt. I don’t know why.

If nothing else you can always go to a department store and ask for assistance. Never hurt anyone!

After getting the jeans, PLEASE wash them. For the sake of humanity. And get more than one pair – three is a nice number, and you can vary the washes, dark, stone, faded, raw, etc.

I guess the most important thing is that you’re comfortable in them and they make you feel good – no matter how they look to other people, if you don’t like them, it’s going to come across.

Nice Sailor Moon garage kit pic, btw. It makes me smile.

Problem is I don’t have a garage…

I don’t even own that particular figure darn it.

I DO have the one I thumbnailed here (and in another thread). I just wish I had the room to set her up somewhere. Have to settle for my GashaPon-sized ones.

To make a long story short, I went shopping for jeans recently. Tried a bunch of different ones. Conclusion: jeans aren’t for me… Don’t like feel or appearance. Sticking with slacks. Oh well. Good enough.

Now to decide on a Derby or a Top Hat…

this is pretty cool, if you can bear to wear unwashed skanky jeans day in and day out. But I can see how it will wear and tear in all the right places. Especially if when you finally do wash them you put some bleach in to soften them up after.

It’s funny - when i was going through my thriftstore period back in school, and wass getting distressed jeans from stores down in the East Village - the jeans used to always feel funny. Like you just know they’re built for soemone else’s specific body. hee hee. Now i’ve got jeans I’ve had long enough that they fit where i want them to.

Here is the coolest i know about clothing.
All the guys that do this get all the babes.

1- Put on a T shirt that has a nice work of art on it.
2- Put a very hip and stilish shirt on top with the 2 top buttons unbutoned.
3- Wear a cool, NOT tight pair of jeans.
4- Wear a nice not too fancy black tuxedo on top (when i say tuxedo, i mean only the jacket part, not the bow tie, not the fancy pants, ONLY THE JACKET PART without a red rose, only the jacket)), leave tuxedo open so the chicks will see your shirt with your kick as artistic stuff sticking out from the 2 unbuttoned butons of your stilish shirt.
5-add a crazy belt buckle
6-White flashy shoes
7-a watch the says that you are rich, i personally use my dads 5000$ watch
(the total cost should be about 460$ though minus the 5000$ watch, get a fake rolex called Bolex)

NOW THAT’S COOL!

(I get all this stuff from a modern skateboard/snowboard/surf/urban-wear/raper/industrial clothing shop called Périgny in québec canada. Very expensive though. Walk in with instant shine on, ask the sexy chicks to help you out and say “hey my friend, will you help me pick out some sexy shirts to impress the babes at the club, pretend i was your boyfriend, pick anything that you would want me to wear _smile at her_” and she will do all the work and pick 50 things for you!!!

Ok here is some more:

my friend is a luxury + cloathing freak, i asked him what he thinks.

he says that BLING BLING is VERY important, watches, belt buckles with a cadillac logo for instance is a must, you need something that stands out, flashy shirts, artistic shirts, unique coat, props, COOL stuff. Girls check the little things, shoes are very imp too.
😃

“Bling bling,” does NOT make this gal sing. FAR from it.

I loathe all that gumff. Be it on a guy or a gal, it does NOT float THIS boat..

STOP listening to other people and do not conform, is the best advice I can offer here.

I’ve taught all non-practical classes (physical teaching requires me to be in exercise clothing, and 4 inch heels do NOT cut it then..) for nearly 16 years wearing vintage suede mini-skirts, knee-high boots, a merino wool or cashmere poloneck (usually black) and a co-ordinating jacket in either slub Suede or cord, and my going-out to-play wear unless I am going out clubbing (in which case a tiny LBD has seen me through decades of fun..) has always been very much the same.

I NEVER followed fashion, and went with what I liked and what suited ME. I never WILL follow fashion. Why? Just to be a sheep? Uhuh..I think not.

Guess what? EVERYBODY “trendy” is wearing my look here now! I fnally became fashionable over a decade after I started dressing that way. I find that highly amusing.

What goes around comes around, and you should never dress to suit anyone BUT yourself. Always remember, a few classic pieces wll give much more mileage than ridiculously expensive trainers that cost hundreds of dollars just for you to wear for one season simply to try to outdo your peers!

Over here, School uniform is mandatory, and I think that rocks. It levels everybody, and gives NOBODY the chance to show off their wealth or to show up the people who are less fortunate than them. EVERYONE IS EQUAL.

I honestly believe that if other countries followed suit, there would be a lot less hate going on in schools.

Ail 🙂

Hey. Whatever floats your boat.

Personally I don’t pay much attention to fashion fads either. In fact someone all decked out in the latest version of a Zoot Suit (you have to go back to the 1920’s for that reference… although I hear they are making a comeback) may have me noticing them, but certainly not wanting to associate with them. But, maybe, the person that outfit _does_ draw may be the type of person you want…

Youth (and for some of us, old age) is also the time of experimentation. Shoot, I’m still tempted to fix my hair in a row of green spikes, just for the heck of it (and while I still have the hair to do it with).
😛
