Can I say thanks for the quick service to the UK. Placed order on Monday PM UK time, expecting item to arrive by Friday or early next week, however received the order today just past 12pm UK time, How quick are u guys, I have to say that it’s been a while since I last placed an order with u guys but I have to say that the service has much improved & quicker than the previous occasions !! So, please say my thanks to your team, esp to despatch for the mega fast service & the freebie enclosed. For any overseas doubters who are sceptical about placing an order, well, I’m the living proof that confirmed I received the item in mega quick time & in quality packaging. Thanks Once AGAIN !! PS, I DO NOT work for the marketing dept for Smartmones, but just a happy customer. ---

I know how you feel Herc but I don’t understand after all that money we pay you for advertising you are only posting this now. Lol, j/k! Mickaelia Quick question which may affect other peps ordering from overseas or others maybe able to help me. I received your item fine last week from DHL, however I received a letter from DHL this morning about a ‘Supplementary Declaration’ with a copy of an Invoice from yourselves (A.P.R) Please can you confirm what this is? Do I need to pay additional charges again to DHL or do I just ignore the papers? Thanks. ---

I’ve never bothered to follow them up if that’s any help. I think its an administrative thing as they used to come attached to the package. ---

ok, it’s just that there’s seems there is an amount next to ‘Total revenue payable’ so wasn’t sure whether I needed to pay this to DHL for importing duties, however there is no details of where to send payment to, which is strange. However, will ignore it for now & await till them to chase up or send reminder letter. I have ordered stuff previously from Smartmones but have never received this letter before so was wondering whether there was a change on importing duties that I wasn’t aware of. But thanks for your help. ---

DHL could only charge you for custom declaration fee’s if it is the federal shipping company/agency and are required to inspect packages through customs. Currently DHL is not for any country, so you are safe. If AD went through you national postal system it could be required and it would be inspected, which is why I assume AD utilizes FedEx and DHL. I work at the USPS, so I know a thing or two about this. Just ignore the invoice. Its a shipping manifest which should have been attached to your package for your records upon arrival. They keep a copy, so do you, they never gave it to you, so they came back around. ---

I started getting those in March (2012) with orders over ?100 (GBP), obviously more in USD’s. The documents used to be attached in a clear compartment on the parcel, I guess for customs spot inspections, but now there’s just a sticky label with my address and a breif description on the package. I got a small order a few weeks back, still not had any additional DHL document sent to me, which looks like a coustoms entry form. If there’s something they wanted me to pay, I’d expect to see at least a letter stating what and where any payment would be required sending, but as nothing comes other than that customs document, I guess therefore there’s nothing to pay?!! Knowing my luck, in a few years I’ll get a whopping bill presented to me by the postman, lol!! 😉 ---

If I recall correctly, it is about 13 ounces in total you do not need detailed custom documentation, and any express or priority shipping options require them in most countries. It is routine, I would not be concerned with an additional duty. Now, if AD listed a value and listed the item as merchandise when filling out the form, you may need to pay. But it would be collected at time of arrival and also the delivery service would need to be the postal system of your country to have the right to collect. Again, I am not positive, but DHL is not the main postal system for any country so it would bypass custom fee’s and duty requirements as it should not have a listed value for taxable goods. The customs tag is included so the border knows what is in side and can keep a copy, and so you can refuse a parcel if you did not order it and deem it suspicious.
