> It’s not just about calories in versus calories out.
> If that were all it took to lose weight — eating a little less and exercising a little more — then weight loss would be as simple as grade-school math: Subtract Y from Z and end up with X.
> But if you’ve ever followed a diet program and achieved less than your desired result, you probably came away feeling frustrated, depressed, and maybe a bit guilty. What did I do wrong?

I only skimmed it but yikes!

Also Diet soda promotes weight gain just like regular soda! It may have zero calories but I have seen people quit it and lose weight like crazy.

If anyone here is struggling with their weight I’d strongly recommend doing a search for “metabolic typing.” Also, I’d like to point out that food additives are not only making people fat, but they are very harmful to the brain as well. It has been well documented that MSG kills brain cells, and I don’t think I even need to get into the topic of flouride.

I believe a lot of “fat” has to do with “culture” and “belief system”. It has a lot to do with the basics: how much you eat, and how active you are. It also has a lot to do with what you eat. But additives are unlikely to be the biggest problem. My research revealed that the biggest causes of obesity in the United States boil down to the very simple fact that we eat too much for the amount of activity we get, we are in large part spoiled and/or lazy, and we believe that everything should be instant and effortless. The biggest factor seems to be unhealthy emotional lives. Those who have healthy emotional lives are much less likely to be obese or overweight. There is a strong tendency in the United States for people to eat out of a desire to make some emotional upset go away.

I’d posted this _cough_ on another forum where this was posted…

I have to chime in here. Several years ago I spent a year on a diet plan that was ADA approved (all my meals were prepared freshly and I had to just pick them up) 2,000 calorie a day meals and I exercised for 4 hours a week consistantly with a trainer (maybe not long enough but all I had time for). For the record, I didn’t cheat and eat other than what was on the plan. I didn’t like tomatoes or lettuce before and for sure I can’t stand them now.

The attempt at getting fit cost a fortune (yeah, I know there are cheaper ways) and in the process I lost 14#. I did build muscle but I really didn’t look much differently than before I started and I was MISERABLE. I was always hungry, always pissed off and generally not pleasant to be around. I found that I while I was somewhat better off physically I wasn’t happy.

I still exercise but I don’t put nearly the focus into what I eat because when I don’t feel deprived (most of the stuff I was eating I actually don’t like the taste of but I was told that in order to be the societal definition of ‘healthy’ I had to eat those things.) I’m never going to be 180#'s and I’ve discovered that I’m okay with that. I’m happy and healthier than my Dr. says I should be.

Yes, I do agree that obesity is rampant in this country (and that there are a lot of lazy people out there) but I also believe that there are genetic variations to each of us. Some of us aren’t going to be ‘thin’ as society thinks we should be unless we completely starve ourselves.

I grew up descended from farmers and they worked hard every day of their lives. Not one of them was under 250#'s and they all lived long and healthy lives.
