could I get a translation for these capoeira songs? Muito Obrigado!
-Tartaruga

CORO:
Cantando as estrelas do céu, do céu, do céu
eu revi o meu destino

* * *

Sem Capoeira Eu Não Vivo
Mestre Charm

Sem capoeira eu não posso viver
Sou peixe fora do mar
Passarinho sem voar
Dia sem escurecer

Mas mesmo rastejando
Vou agacho para jogar
Peço ao berimbau que toca
E a Deus para me olhar

Posso ficar sem comer
Nem água eu beberei
Sem capoeira não fico
Porquê se não eu morrerei

Peixe tora da água morre
O día tem que escurecer
E eu sem a capoeira
Não sei o que fazer

Passarinho sem voar
E eu sem minha capoeira
Passarinho bateu asa
Eu fiqueí nessa tristeza

Here you go …

Turtle

Singing the stars of heaven, heaven, heaven
I reviewed my destiny
each star was a step to pursue my
my dream boy

But when I was a boy
dreamed of having a abadá
a rope around his waist, safely
and to play a berimbau

I may be a dreamer
take much imagination
but with the strength of capoeira, playing my berimbau
I have my dreams in the hands

## But time goes by continue its fight one day God willing, next to Rio de Janeiro seek his red rope

This next one loses a little of its meaning in the translation

No I do not live Capoeira
teacher Charm

No I can not live poultry
I am a fish out of the sea
Bird does not fly
Day without darkening

But even crawling
I squat to play
I ask that plays berimbau
And I look to God

I can not eat
I’ll drink no water
No I’m not poultry
Why not if I die

Fish log water dies
The day has to darken
And me without capoeira
I do not know what to do

Bird does not fly
And me without my poultry
Bird wing beat
I was sad that…

It stops there. Was there more to it ?

was that a google translate? google is what prompted me here. with them the prepositions and pronouns are all screwey. the minute they and babelfish translated capoeira as “poultry” I thought: “Time to ask a real person.” lol

Nope wasnt goggle translate and last time I checked I was quite real LOL

Edit to add, there are many words in the English language that do not exist in other languages which can sometimes make things unclear and not make sense but in this case they did use the word poultry in the song.

Chicken is Galinha. The use of the word in English as a replacement for coward can be confusing to people of other languages and not come across clearly. Actually they say English is really the hardest language to understand because of the many different ways the same word can be used in a sentence.

i’ve learned a couple of things here. one, google and babelfish aren’t nearly as innacurate as i thought. two, the songs aren’t lyrically as beautiful as they sound on the whole. and lastly THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your time on these Tisha!

Thats because they are more chants then they are songs. These are written for the art of Capoeira which is a combination of African dance and martial arts. So while the words have no logical meaning to us and seem to not make a lot of sense they do to those involved in that culture.

Not to compare it to other cultures but have you ever listened to rap music. Lots of times unless your part of that culture whats being said makes no sense in traditional English. However within that culture it makes perfect sense to those who can speak the dialect.
