> Challenged with a 100 million euro ($133 million) deficit, one western German city has introduced a day tax on prostitutes to help whittle down its budget gap.

With all the deficits in this country, maybe this idea would help here. Story below.

Taxing any occupation that is service oriented as opposed to production oriented is a stop gap measure at best.
The Government requests money be printed by the federal reserve (which is not really federal at all)
The Fed complies and prints currency for distribution. The value is based on the amount of currency circulating and the overall debt the government has against other nations.
However if you follow a single dollar bill’s life as it travels from hand to hand it eventually finds it’s way in a foreign market where actual goods are produced. There it’s spending power is absorbed by the indigenous currency.
In short so long as we buy everything from China and India, they will get progressively stronger economically while we will go further and further into debt. Increased government spending on social programs may provide currency in the form of wealth redistribution for the unemployed, and in the form of government based jobs ranging from social workers to the guys you see maintaining the roads all year. And granted, the moneys earned by or given to those people will be spent somewhere which temporarily strengthens the retail and service industries, however while Walmart is an American company, most of the products it sells are made overseas which is where a good chunk of those dollars go…dollars that need to be replaced by printing more currency and borrowing more money to back it, money borrowed from the very nations that are taking the jobs making for a double barrel form of economic suicide.

Legitimizing and taxing occupations that have been up until now victimless crimes is good in as much as it slows the rate at which we increase our debt. However so long as we spend more money on good made overseas than we make by selling goods overseas that were made domestically a slow death is still a death. The wage laws and regulations that motivate businesses to relocate overseas have to be held in check so that it can still be profitable to operate a manufacturing business domestically. China is becoming an economic powerhouse by NOT doing the very things we’ve been spoon fed by politicians into believing were essential for our own economy to work. Atlas is shrugging and unless we help him, he will eventually drop the burden he carries.
