Do the amount of [pheromones](https://a314.com/) after applying on clothes/skin follow an exponential decay and thus can be described with the formula

f(t) = f(0) \* a^t with a = 1-p/100

f(t) = amount of pheromones after t hours
f(0) = initial amount
a = factor of growth
p = decrease in % per hour

With other words - can the remaining amount of a mone calculated with the formula mentioned above if you know in which time the inital amount break down to the half?

Example:
You apply 20mcg of a mone. 5 hours later the application point smell like 10mcg of the mone. Could you then calculate that the half-life period is 5 hours and 5 hours later you will wear just only 5mcg, then again 5 hours later 2.5mcg, then 1.25 mcg, then 0.625mcg…?

Any ideas?

Skipping the algabra because I suck at it… 😛

No because your not factoring in diffusion rate due to environment and body heat.

For instance one day you could wear 20 mcg of mones and its hot out and half of it diffuses in 2 hours and the next day its a bit cooler and half of it diffuses in 4 hours. You cant detect the MCG by smell so 20 mcg and 10 mcg smell the same.

You also have to consider the molecular weight of each molecule which varies slightly and affects diffusion as well.

There is to many different variables to come up with a feasible equation that will fit daily use of mones in the real world.

Generally they last 3 to 6 hours. shorter in the cool dry air. longer in the hot humid air. Longer if its an oil carrier which slows diffusion. After about 4 to 6 hours usually what I do is apply a half dose of what I originally applied that morning.

The smell of your scent carrier diminishing is not an indication your mones have diffused either so you cant go by scent.

Hi Tisha,

thank you,
well that clear that the diffusion rate of the mones depends on the condition of the envirnonment, the body chemistry and other things. But supposed a constant conditions do the mones break down linear or exponential. linear would mean that if you wait twice the half-life period all mones are diffused and with exponential diffusion you would have (after you have wait twice the half-time period) the half of the half then the half of the half of the half…?

questions and questions 🙂

I inadvertently dumped NPA on an old leather coat while in Vegas several years ago and it still smells like piss 'n pits. I only wear the coat while traveling–too warm in the tropics for coats–but the NPA stills seems to spill its magic.

Hmmm Well if your in a controlled environment with the exact same conditions everyday Body temp, air temp and quality I would say exponential but this is not scientifically proven its just my opinion.

Problem is when wearing mones you rarely have a controlled environment. People wear them in the real world environment. That’s why lots of scientifically controlled testing is not enough to really understand each putative and why I find this forum so helpful. Nothing against controlled environment testing its just doesn’t give you a accurate picture of how various mones perform in my opinion.
