hey fellas and fellerina’s,

I thought i’d toss out a few things you can do for yourself if you have high blood pressure. The “normal” or “acceptable” reading for blood pressure is 120/80 - it may have recently been lowered to 120/70 however I am not 100% sure on that.

Before taking any of this advice - I urge you to goto your medical doctor and talk to him or her about any suppliments or changes to diet you may want to do.

The 1st thing you need to do is change your diet. Sodium is the #1 reason for high bloodpressure… those T.V. dinners, herbs & spices to coat food, and soy sauce (yes even the 490mg low sodium version) are just not ANY good for you. In moderation, they’re fine… but for high blood pressure they’re silent assassins! Try eating whole foods, limit preservatives and sodium as much as possible. By doing this, you’ll not only help lower your blood pressure but you’ll have a nice secondary perk… you’ll be eating healthier 😃

Suppliment wise you have 3 very good options.

- Hawthorne berry
- CoQ10
- Garlic

I personally feel hawthorne berry is the best option. It certainly helped my father to lower his blood pressure. CoQ10 is excellent for the heart and will help to lower blood pressure. Garlic has been known for a LONG time to be excellent for the heart and will also help to lower blood pressure. Ofcoarse, you could always go with the triple threat 😃

now it’s time to talk about excercise. Doing cardio greatly improves cardiovascular health. Overdoing ofcoarse isn’t any good. Start slowly… maybe walking a comfortable distance. Slowly build up until you can jog without being severely winded!

Adding any one of these to your daily routine SHOULD help… but using all the tools available to you will net you your best chance at lowering your blood pressure.

As I said before - TALK TO YOUR MEDICAL DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING ANY NATURAL TREATMENT. Sometimes high bloodpressure needs to be curtailed with prescription medication. However there are cases (like my fathers) where it’s not insanely high and can be curtailed with otc suppliments and diet/excercise.

good luck on your life pursuits!

Regards,
~Haz~

Make sure you see a doctor as heart problems can also stem from Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium or other deficiencies.

Other good things to take are Vitamin C and B complex, most heart problems are a result of low B vitamins in the diet.
Reducing salt, eating more veggies, and drinking more water help as well.

You make a very good point here… intaking plenty of water is VERY important and let me explain why for those of you who don’t know…

Water retention increases blood pressure… It may seem counter-productive to intake lots of water but it’s exactly the opposite. When you withhold water from your body - your body says “Well… i don’t know when i’m getting my next drink… so im going to hold as much of this one as I can… just incase I have to go a while without water” - when you drink about 1 gallon of water a day your body says “WOW! I’m getting tons of water… it’s consistant… i don’t have to worry about when my next drink will be so I will flush out the water I don’t need because I don’t have to retain it.”

What I’m trying to say is: Drink 1 gallon of water a day and you will be less likely to retain water 😛

I’d also like to point out that healthy adults can take CoQ10 and garlic to maintain a healthy heart… i’m sure you could take hawthorne berry but i probably wouldn’t unless I needed it.

Hey steveO,

Thanks for the gift certificate! It certainly isn’t necessary, tho i wont stop you 😛

I had an idea last week to try adding some useful health posts to the board. Whenever I could - i figured i would add helpful tips for common things that happen to people. I don’t have a timeline or a set number of posts… i guess just whenever I can.

I’m actually involved in a few investments right now… some are futher along than others but opening a nutrition store is one of them 😃 I’m in the early stages right now… it may happen - may not. Health and nutrition is almost my life LOL so anything I can do to help anybody out would be my pleasure.

thanks again,

Also make sure you eat your oatmeal-

My BP has been high as well. This thread couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve considered CoQ10, and I already incorporate garlic into just about every meal. It’s nature’s wonderful antibiotic, and it’s just plain tasty to boot. Hawthorne Berry isn’t something I’ve tried before, but I’ll definitely give it a look. We’ve got a chain of stores here called Super Supplements, and it is to herbs, vitamins, and supplements as Best Buy is to consumer electronics.

If I could rep you for an entire thread, I would. In the meantime, your first post gets a hearty “I approve” from me!

Me too - but Dr and I seem to think it is stress related. I have read a lot about CoQ10 and garlic but not Hawthorne Berry. I will read up on it. I wonder if it would help stress related high BP too. I am Italian so I eat a lot of garlic. But maybe it is better in pill form?

I am going to PM u if that is ok…

Great thread, Hazard. Agree with data - perfect timing.

Sounds crazy, but magnesium + CoQ10 + _deep breathing exercises_ seemed to bring my BP down.

And reading Roissy in DC’s blog brought it right back up.

Time to check out some Hawthorne Berry.
