Hey guys! I’m a 20 yr old guy and I live in Los Angeles, CA.
I’m way too curious about all this pheromone stuff and I’m gonna spend
my life’s savings on them if I’m not careful.

I’ve looked into the science behind [pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/) (but mostly just personal accounts from people who’ve used them), but what I haven’t seen much
information on is pheromones and gays. I’m gay and I want to know how these products effect other gay guys.

Any suggestions or reccomended products from fellow homosexuals??

I just read the post on intros so I should probably give a little more info on myself.
I’m somewhat shy or unsure when I meet someone and I think that shows. I know that I’m likable and that I don’t need to be fake when I meet someone, but something inside me makes me not behave as 100% genuinely myself. And that bothers me.
I think a lot of people have this problem.
Or maybe some don’t even consider it a problem to be a little fake when meeting new people. Anyway I bought a small size of instant shine, mostly for the self effects. My hope/expecation for it to work as a confidence booster.
I feel like sometimes I just need a small confidence boost, like making someone laugh, to really put my full personality out there when I meet someone. Have any users of IS noticed this sort of effect?

Well, there is a difference between being fake and presenting your true qualities in the best light - omitting some details at first, starting with others. Putting your best foot forward, so to speak. It can feel deceptive, but if you’re working with what is honestly and truly you I don’t think it necessarily is.

As for being gay, I know that the pheromones work differently for gay men to a certain degree. I’m not really sure, unfortunately, so I can’t make much of a recommendation on some things. I can say though that the [social pheromones](https://a314.com/product-category/social-pheromones/) are fairly universal - so I agree with Instant Shine, I’m also a fan of Instant Honesty and Instant Openness. Those will probably be pretty handy for you, regardless. Perhaps other members of the forum can weigh in on the additional specifics? Also, check out the search feature of the forum, there may be threads I just haven’t bothered to check out. I have a good friend who is gay, however, and he did try some of my pheromones back when I was getting them from another company…so I can give you _one_ story that is probably not that helpful?

It was a product which is almost entirely -none, the AD equivalent of TUTH basically. He wore it to a club, wore way too much of it, and a number of the men were talking about how someone smelled “sweaty” and “like BO”. (Keep in mind this product had no cover scent)

However, one of the men who was complaining the most about it and being really snarky all evening also ended up following him home and basically pestering him all evening, to the point of freaking my friend out a little bit. Related? No idea. Useful? Again, sorry, I really don’t know…but I’d say that there’s potential for _something_ to work. I would guess that -none isn’t going to be your best bet, as gay men have different ratios of that to…something long and latin-y. Estra-something I think? I’d try the Instant line first, see how those go. If you can, you might check out Ammo and IG, or A314…but I don’t know if that would be good or not.

Eventually, getting into putatives you might consider P83? This is honestly all guesswork, you’d be better served by doing the research on the forum for the most part. I stand by my recommendation of the Instant line, however - they’re fantastic!

If you _do_ find out things that work for you, however - let people know! I’m curious about the differences from a scientific perspective. Although I’m straight, that doesn’t mean that the information might not one day be useful for someone on here, or give insights into how I and others can better use products for our own goals. Data is data, I say. Welcome!

Thank you, I do find that helpful. So you say that it was equivlent to TUTH. Was the product designed to attract women? I guess my confusion lies in how gay men perceive pheromones as opposed to women. I’ve heard it said that they respond the same way women do… which doesnt make sense to me. Though gay men share an attraction to men with straight women, theyre attracted in different ways (being men). Generally, theyre more forward or blunt with sexual advances (in my experence) and seem to just be more physically drawn than most women. So a pheromone designed to make you seem safe, dependable, or comforting may not be as nessary for gay men (in the club/date atmosphere) as it might be for women, as attraction seems to be more emotional for women. This is all my speculation based on information I seem to remember hearing haha. If anyone knows differently, chime right in.

And yes, I see your point. When meeting someone the first time, you don’t want to tell them about your criminal record, your parents divorce, or anything super personal. What I believe though is that there’s a ratio of parts of yourself you put out when you meet someone to parts of yourself you don’t. Too often I find myself in mundane conversation because I’m too sheepish and refuse to put out much of any of my personality. The feeling is of unoriginality. Which is not a problem of mine. My problem is limiting my full expression because of social phobia, basically.

Well, a good way to look at it is that pheromones aren’t _attracting other people_, they’re _signalling_ something about _you_. I think that’s maybe the key thing that a lot of people misinterpret with pheromones. So, the product is designed to signal that the wearer is a person of high testosterone - an alpha male in a very specific and somewhat narrow way. The thing about gay men vs straight men as I understand it is that gay men have higher testosterone levels than straight men naturally anyway. (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, anyone who wants to weigh in - I haven’t read any studies in ages about this) However, the _ratio_ of Androstenone to…again whatever that long name was - is different. I don’t know the ratios, but apparently it’s a notable difference. Androstenone is _definitely_ not a social/comfort pheromone. The **Instant** line are, and it’s true that might not be exactly what you’re going for, particularly in a club environment - but used sparingly they can still make a difference. They are also indicators of youthfulness and healthfulness. Instant Shine is kind of an exception here in that I think it’s probably useful for _everyone_. I don’t think it would hurt your chances of being perceived sexually.

So at the risk of stereotyping the gay community, and please let me know if I get out of line as I can assure you I don’t intend to or want to here, I’d say that it depends on what you’re going for. For hookups, I’m not sure, and for general attraction I’m also unsure. (maybe P83? Or find out what was in Mystery Boy - that one was reputed to be effective. Also, I know that some members have mixed pheromones used more often by women with some of the male ones and had results that might interest you. I suspect that many of the pheromones aren’t really divided strictly down gender lines like people think - it’s all ratios and stuff again)

For dating and relationship seeking, that’s probably when you _do_ want a little “comfort, dependable” kind of vibe, although not to the point of completely eliminating attraction. This is where status pheromones (like IG or A314) or social pheromones(IO, IH) might become more useful. Unfortunately, you’re probably going to have to do more research and more experimenting than average, but I have a feeling that it’s not as much more as you might think. There are women who wear pheromones with a male signature on here, some men including myself find it useful to add TAH and TAL (sparingly) to our mixes and those are considered to be primarily feminine by many people. I think you have some wiggle room.

My friend, I understand _all_ about that. I’m a walking bundle of social anxiety. I have finally developed confidence over the years and I _still_ get anxiety - I even have pills for it now. It’s really weird to have anxiety and confidence simultaneously. So…don’t talk about you, exactly. Talk about things that excite you, talk about things that interest you, talk about your passions. Or…talk about _them_. ALMOST EVERYONE is happy to talk about themselves if you get them going. As someone (I forget who, unfortunately) once said “I already know all about me, I’d much rather talk about the person I’m interested in”.

Addendum - I’m normally not one to recommend putatives or [experimental pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/product-category/advanced-pheromones/experimental-pheromones/) to new users, and I still recommend trying the commercial line first…but the more I think about it, the more I suspect that P83 could be downright _dangerous_ (metaphorically, I hope) in a gay bar/club unless they’ve changed a lot in the last five or six years. If I were in your shoes, I’d put that in my second order for sure. 😃

Addendum addendum (redundum) - Instant Shine, if it does nothing else for you at all, it seems to be a pretty effective general-purpose mood elevator. For the price, you can’t beat that. Good luck!

No!!! Times are hard just let me make you guys coffee or something. If you are looking for perfect attendance I still have the sizzler coupons I got in school for perfect attendance.

Haha, but honestly you guys strike me as an awesome company and pheromones are fascinating.. so, who knows one day? I would be interested in coming to see where you guys are based.. It’s like Santa Monica right? I’m not too far.
If you guys don’t typically have visitors though that is cool and I understand. I don’t want to taint a batch of instant shine on accident or something.

Like someone already said, my first thought was you should try P83. It’s not gender defined and it will definitely get you some attention. Maybe mix it with some social/friendly [pheromone](https://a314.com/shop/) as well.
Finally, someone to give a different perspective on pheromone usage! 🙂 Just don’t forget to share your results, ok? 🙂

Of course! I am with family in Iowa until next week, so once I’m back in LA I’ll be around more gay people and I can post my results in a new thread.

Yeah. There seem to be a lot a varibles too. Like if I were to try to “pick up” guys at a gay bar, it would be a very different experence than it is for straight guys doing the same but looking for women. Of course I’m generalizing, but from my limited experence, it’s almost like everyone you could talk to at a gay club would prefer to have sex with someone that night. Which appears to me as simply an aspect of most men, so I’m not sure what to anticipate but very obvious cues.

Also I was sent a sample of [P75](https://pheromonelabs.com/product/p75/) with my last order. From what I could find on it, it seems generally appealing to women but men don’t like it. So, hearing before that a gay man will be attracted to the scents that attract straight women, I expected to like the smell myself. But I didn’t. It made me feel weird and cranky and I haven’t worn it since.
So I’m wondering if it was just me or if this mone will offend other gay men, simply because they are men. I don’t know whether to give it to my gay sister or straight male friend…
In other words, I’m wondering if appreciating this smell has more to do with your gender than your sexual preference.

It does seem to get tricky when trying to make a statement on how this effects gay people, because “gay” and “straight” describe, in my opinion, what a person is mostly attracted to. I think the 100% straight or 100% gay individual is rare at most, and that despite what these labels suggest, our level of attraction to either sex lies on a scale.

Hope that’s not confusing. Haha I can get very analyitical and I think I’m combining a few ideas (sexual psychology/how the brain works/pheromones) I don’t know enough about. But I’m excited to post anything I find.
