I’m sorry, you asked so I am gonna answer. Its nasty and unattractive. People will look but not because they are attracted to it but because its freaky looking. I suggest you stop.

I am not against body piercing or tattoos. I have alot of both but my tattoos are in places you cant find easily except for the one on my back and my piercings are small enough that you wont see them without the earrings in. My job only lets me wear some of those earrings. I cant fill all the holes on each side. One guy at work has excessive tattoos and has to wear long sleeves even in summer when he is on the road delivering mail. Looked cool when he was 20 and in the army. Not so cool now. I like tattoos but not excessive ones. How you gonna hide your head when the time comes???

It may seem all cool now but its permanent. They dont shrink back, My cousin had them and the surgery to fix it cost over ten thousand dollars. He couldn’t get a job because of it even with a degree and the family had to bail his ass out. Imagine what you will look like when your 40. Yes someday you will be 40, I know it seems like years away.

Imagine going to a job interview with giant holes in your ears. Sure they may not care down at the walmart or burger king but they will in other positions and it will effect your life adversely later on. What happens when the trend is over ?? What happens when a girl brings you home to meet the family if you can get one to, with giant holes in your ears.

The negative possibilities out weight the positive ones. Dont do it. If you love piercings thats great get as many as you want because when the time comes you will have the choice to take them out if needed and no one will be the wiser. You cant do that with plugs or guages.

Tisha has many important points on getting gauges. Mostly the bit about getting jobs. I’m into piercings and tattoos as well. Sports is my life, so unfortunately, I kept the number of piercings low, as they can easily get caught in the quick motions of sports.

I avoid tattoos on my arms or hands because I don’t want to limit my choices in careers.

> [@tisha23](#):
>
> How you gonna hide your head when the time comes???

However, I think this question is most telling. Tisha may have a need to hide her head at times, perhaps because she has other priorities that are more important than showing her head (following the metaphor..) Those priorities may be keeping her job, keeping her family, I don’t know.

Others, however, would assert that there is no reason to **hide**. If those piercings and tattoos are really that important in your life, why would you hide it? I would be willing to change my life, or accept consequences that come with living my life the way I want to.

I’ll put it this way. No one would ever knowingly hire a heavy marijuana smoker unless it was at a smoke shop or something along those lines. I have a choice. I can hide my head at times and get the job, or I could show my head and probably not get the job.

Though I consider marijuana a large part of my life, in order to maintain my lifestyle the way I want it to be, I need to keep a job, and that means hiding my head at times.

A more extreme example would be showing/hiding my head with the police. Yes, it might be legal in the state of California, but I can still get in legal trouble, or at the very least, hassled by the police.

Think about what you really want, but keep in mind that tattoos and large piercings should be considered permanent.

There a lot of good points you guys made I was looking for your personal feelings towards it.I know it going to be hard for me.And I currently have 59 piercings .I understand why u want me to stop.=].I don’t have any piercings on my face (use your imagination).I love them all.I take care of them.Haven’t gotten one infection and none of them rejected thank god(biggest fear when getting them)

Yea sport kinda get in the way of piercing I train and fight in a muay tai fighting style. It takes to long taking my piercings out so i learned its just easier to tape them down with Surgical tape(not 100% guarantee that it would protect u completely yet it works out great.Yet i still have matches where when I’m done a few of my piercings are bleeding due to a hit i might have taken but at least they haven’t been ripped out =]

This isn’t entirely true. As long as you don’t stretch your lobes too far and/or too fast, they should be able to bounce back relatively easily (with allowances for individual skin elasticity and if there was any scar tissue). The amount of time the lobes are stretched is a factor, too.

Well I obviously can’t comment on his issues because I don’t know what happened, but I have personally had stretched lobes in the past (up to 0g, which is 8mm) and have also known quite a few other people with stretched lobes who took their jewelry out and had the holes shrink back down to “normal” size. Again, with consideration for the individual’s unique skin type, if the stretching is done slowly and not taken to outrageous proportions (see [http://tattoo.about.com/library/graphics/031403g.jpg](http://tattoo.about.com/library/graphics/031403g.jpg)), it’s possible to get your original lobes back.

I can’t stress enough on what Tisha mentioned, it’s really true. Or atleast to me from my experience and from my bestfriend’s.

My experience, I used to wear “fake tattoo” everyday (since my parents wouldn’t give me money for a real one lol, they hated the idea. Not fair because dad has a tattoo of mom’s name on his chest, romantic, but no one will see it, so he’s damn lucky 🙄) of this rose on my shoulder blade. During my early college years (yea, I was into it, since it looked cool and sexy), but one day I forgot to remove it, and went to this job interview (it was a high position btw) and they told me at the very beginining of the interview that I’ll have to button-up my shirt to my neck or that would affect their business 😮

o.O I know, so I had to eventually stop wearing them.

My bestfriend on the otherhand was into punk-ish things, though he’s such a sweetheart personality-wise his tattoos and piercings always have gotten in the way of his social-life, seriously, I felt really bad for him, I eventually convinced him out of it, and he’s getting many surgeries done, to remove the excessive tattoos (which I think will make a big difference in his life, career and social-wise). The piercings on the other hand, we’re trying to figure that one now, cause it’s a bit harder. And it’s so damn expensive, luckily he has the money for it.

I know, I know. It’s cool, and you want to do what _you_ want to do, cause you probably think that this represents who you are. But the unfortunate truth is that, you’re probably the only one who knows who you are, while others are trying to figure out, or are trying to categorize you. I don’t know if I’d want to go out with a guy who has excessive piercings in painful places, my eyes will just tear up wondering how painful that is. But then, this is just my very honest opinion.

You’re still 17 and 59 piercings is kinda enough lol, you’ve got a long life to live, so take it slow my love.

Not trying to offend you, just throwing my 2 cents. I wouldn’t do it, but if you do, good luck 🙂

I dont know what size my cousins were. He had a disc in them about the size of a nickel though if that helps. They shrunk just slightly then stopped at about the size of a dime. It took months just for that and in that time he missed alot of important job opportunites. The doctor finally told him they would never shrink back to size and that its a comman misconception among the piercing community that they will. Just like any other area of the body that you stretch to a certain limit it does damage. Sometimes that damage cant be seen for years to come and the body cant repair it alone.

My personal feelings would be to each his own as long as your aware of the consequences and can deal with them forever its fine. Attraction wise, I think when you get to the point my cousin was at. (and I dont know the gauge size, I am not up on that) its gross looking and unattractive. I am a firm believer in balance though. I will say what I tell mone users. More is not always better. 😉

Unfortunately as much as we want to be and do what we want, we live in a society that dictates what is and is not appropriate. If you are not independently wealthy and you do have to work for a living, down the road it will hurt your possibilities of obtaining good paying jobs. If your goal in life is to work in professions (artist, musician, professional fighter, tattoo artist, etc.) where the way you look does not influence your livelihood then by all means experiment and be free.

People judge you by the way you look. My law firm would not hire a young intern because he had massive tats on his arms and hands. I thought the guy was brilliant. He was handsome, young, witty and very intelligent. I really liked him but my boss said his look misrepresented the firm. I doubt he will find any firm to hire him as long as he has those tats on his hands.

Some actions have long term and expensive consequences. Think it through. All the best!!!..Siren

Siren, if I were a boss, I’d be most interested in hiring _intelligent, hardworking_ employees, first and foremost, regardless of tattoos and such. Arm tattoos can be covered up by long sleeve shirts. I understand where he’s coming from, but who knows how much business one intelligent employee can bring in. No matter how good an unintelligent employee looks, and how well they ‘represent’ the firm, they won’t bring in business because they lack the skills and knowledge.

I would want by business to be represented by intelligent, witty people. Either way, yes, it sucks we live in a society where our lives are dictated by societal pressures. We all need to pay bills. 😕

I used to have a piercing… left eyebrow… looked friggan awesome. I got it when i was 20 i think… kind of a bad time in my life. I used to get into alot of bar/street fights… after a while i got thinking that if i ever fought soemone with a piercing i’d rip the damn thing out. It was enough to make me take it out LOL. I also took jiu-jitsu and muay thai and having someone rub that thing sucked ass.

I like certain piercings… i like tattoo’s… i would never overdo them on myself however. I’m more grown up now and i considered getting my eyebrow re-pierced. I havn’t ruled it out… but i probably wont doit lol.

A guy i work with has those bars going from his neck… all the way down his back. He’s got pictures of himself hanging from a wall… not really my thing LOL… but who am i to judge him?

Well honestly i’ve gone to internship at recording studios. what i really have set in mind is to get my computer science and audio engineering degree to work in a recording studio. Ever since i was little i wanted to do this.and for what i notice the dress code was very lay back. still i have to present myself nicely. but when i got to meet people they had mostly the style liked.and it seem that you need to comfortable for this job because its a lot of hour recording mixing ect.even for the my interview the person interviewing me had casual look. personally i dont like the suit and tie but if i have too i guess i got to.

Just a note, you can work at Jamba w/o wearing a suit and tie, but they still might not hire you if you have visible tattoos. It’s not about how ‘stuffy’ or ‘laid back’ a company is with their dress code. My job is very laid back, as long as I don’t walk in with my PJs, I’m good. However, if I had visible tattoos on my hands and arms, I wouldn’t have the job, or I’d be stuck in the back with a lower paying job.

However, the music industry or any other ‘creative’ industry for that matter, is going to be much more lax on visible tattoos. It’s not like the rockstars and rappers don’t have em..but either way, it sounds like you’ve given it a lot of thought. Piercings are easy to hide/cover up..tattoos, not so. Just make your decision wisely. 🙂
