If you are in a regular sized living room with 10 people in it and someone lets out a fart… everyone would smell it… but no one would know who it belongs to… eventually you have to ask this question: “OK who cut one?” We would definitely notice it… and it would likely affect our behavior such as fanning the air with your hand, or opening a window, or pinching our nose… There are several different factors. Silage, pinpointing, vapor trails and congruence. But its basically the same way we pinpoint sound or light. On an instinctual primal level we all understand chemical communication. Its how we communicated in the womb. The question is kinda like asking how does your body know how to stay alive. How does your heart know how to beat ? No one taught it.
