# If pheromones stop working for self effects...

If it is true that we get used to [pheromone products](https://a314.com/shop/) that we use and they don’t work for self effects anymore, how long should a break be before we start responding to them again? Would using different kind for awhile make me respond to the old kind? How do you guys go about it? I honestly can’t smell my Instant Shine or TAA the same way as in the beginning. I used almost the whole bottle and it was great, but now I can only remember that amazing smell, I don’t smell it anymore. I don’t know if it expired or what 😕

What do you mean you dont smell it ? What [pheromones](https://a314.com/) do has little to do with the scent of them. Do not use the scent as a indication of them working.

Self effects are hard to hold onto. Pheromones work in the subconscious mind and your quite aware of them because your putting them on. Some people do not get self effects at all. For those that do rotating products and not using them every day seems to help. There is no set time though, that would be different for everyone I guess.

I rarely get self effects at all anymore with any of my standard products no matter how long the break. They are not really designed to affect the user they are designed to affect those around you.
