[SoCal wildfire surges in size, threatens thousands - Yahoo! Yeah, i should be safe but I feel so bad for the people closer to the fire especially the firemen and their families (two died today) and the poor animals out there.Praying for rain and no more fire and death. ☹ Where I’m at its just too hot day and nightThat and the air quality is worse than usual which is saying something for la. ---

Welcome to Fire Season (who said California didn’t have seasons?). Greece has a similar climate to SoCal, so they have fire season too. The LA fires are bad since they are so big without the [Santa Ana’s](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds). [Jimena](http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Weather/story?id=8453710) is supposed to bring rain to SoCal by Thursday of Friday as it moves north. Hope it pans out. _Edit:_ Forgot to mention the 3 biggest fires in California history, the Laguna Fire (1970), The Cedar fire (2003) and the Witch Creek Fire (2007) were all in San Diego County. \*\* \*\* ---

I can see the fires from my place and I am at the beach. Yesterday the thick smoke was MASSIVE and looked like thunderhead cloud, only many times bigger. I feel for the people and the animals caught in the fire. For those that haven’t seen fires like this it is hard to explain. I was very close to one 3 years ago. Imagine: for days all you smell is smoke, sunlight takes on an eerie orange hue and even in the middle of the night the glow of the fire lights up everything. ---

Though, being an old sucker, I remember the '70 one too. Burned out the village I now live in. There’s an oak tree across the street from my house that still has burns from that fire. The fires in '70, '03, and '07 each in turn became the largest fire in California history.😮 _Edit:_ As I’m writing this my village is getting pounded with rain, flash flood warnings have been posted. ---

Some of those photos from the fires are sort of pretty… if you don’t think about what they are. Here in Australia forest fires, or as we call them “bushfires” are pretty common - dry climate, most trees are eucalypts which rely on fire for their life cycle. My mother lives up in the semi-rural mountains west of Sydney, and has been through a few bad fire seasons… so I’ve got a lot of symphathy for you.
