So here is the deal, my girlfriend smells down there! It’s a pretty strong odor not really sure how to describe it but the closest thing I have smelled is a not very clean guy in the gym after he has been running, intense sour BO. Sometimes if she hasn’t showered it is terrible to the point if I touch her down there for even a second through her yoga pants, so no direct contact actually going through two thin layers, but anyway I can smell it super intense on my hand.

Now the problem is when we shower together I noticed she never washes it, water hits the area and that’s all. I offered to help her clean it(in a sexy no offensive way) and she said that soap makes it burn, I told her it was probably because she got some in her urethra but then she came up with another lame excuse that she will get Yeast Injection if she washes it and inside with soap. Is this true?? Idk what to do about it, I have been with her for a year and I want to continue but something needs to be done about the smell.

I am in no way an expert, in fact I probably don’t have a clue, but there are natural soaps available, which should not cause any bad reactions. In fact you should take a look what a mainstream soap contains. 😃 I have stopped using them a long time ago.

If she, however, is not interested in maintaining a good hygiene, and you can’t convince her that washing is a good idea… then maybe you should find somebody else?

She needs to try baby soap and that should work. She might have got a yeast infection if she was using ant-bacterial soap down there. The anti-bacterial soap will cause that because it kills all of the beneficial bacteria that is supposed to be there and defend against yeast. But if she uses baby soap or feminine hygiene soap there should not be a problem.

Because the odor is so extreme, vaginosis leaps out as a plausible diagnosis. I’m sure a nurse or clinic worker would immediately jump to that as a first guess. Differential diagnosis includes Trich. and yeast. She needs to see a women’s or family planning clinic. It is very common and often easily treated, but there is a risk of complications and antibiotic resistance. It could be both an internal and external matter. _ **Externally** _, a very mild wash as for infants (including girls) will do. Think “No More Tears” in the baby care isle. pH neutral and so mild it won’t sting eyes or any sensitive area.

To be extraoridinarily precise (like I’m ever not), do not introduce soaps or detergents within the vagina. It is comprised of stratified squamous epithelium sensitive to moisture, pH, isotonicity, etc. It has it’s own microscopic histology, just like the inside of the mouth is a different tissue than the lips on the face. _The area anterior to the vaginal os (meatus) is the anatomical equivalent of the urinary meatus of the glans penis in men_. Thus, you can take a bath or bathe the outside area, but not the inside. In other words, _normal, common sense bathing_. If that does not eradicate normal daily BO, there is an infection or alternate etiology. 100 years ago, on the farm, we had no shower stalls or CVS. People bathed in tubs with a soap bar. Imperfect, but effective at curing odor and preventing disease. If a man or woman has a serious groin odor after bathing, pathogenic microbe is suspect pretty often. **Not always** , but often.

The American College of Nurse Midwives (write **them** if you disagree) specifically recommends _unscented bar soap_ for daily external hygiene. But if you ask the College of OBGYN or Family Practice, you’ll probably get a different answer.

Your not supposed to wash the inside of your vagina with soap or anything else except water (NOT EVEN BABY SOAP). The vagina has very specific bacterias and using soaps can throw it out of balance causing infection so yes she is correct.

Have you told her about your feelings ? She has to find the underlying problem that is causing the smell. She can already have an infection, Bacterial Vaginosis, Chlamydia, or a STD. Her bacteria can be out of balance because of using products in the past in that area. It could be her diet as well.

First she really should see a doctor to rule out potentially dangerous health issues. Her vagina is trying to tell her something.

If she refuses then ask her to eat more greek yogurt which will help replace natural bacteria. She should wear cotton underwear. Avoid spandex (You mentioned yoga) Take baths and add a cup of apple cider vinegar to water (no other scent or products). She should also drink more cranberry juice and **most importantly** get some Liquid Chlorophyll to take and that should put her natural flora back in balance.

She has been to planned parent hood a few times since I have been with her to get birth control etc so they had given her checkups there and they have never mentioned anything to her, at least that I know of, but it has been like this since I have known her, I know she has never washed it (inside or out) with soap so that shouldn’t be the issue either.

I have hinted at it smelling bad but never straight up said it, I will try to get her to drink more cranberry juice and get some liquid chlorophyll, hopefully that will help.
