I concur on this, I can smell them, so yea… my nose is trained to pick it up already.

Men are conditioned by olfactory/pheromonal cues to respond with hormonal changes that promote the successful behaviors, which are essential to species survival. Same with women and with all animals. Research now shows what some of us have known for many years. Miller’s research helps to bring home the point. It is unfortunate that some people will never get the point because they see only the sexually titilating situational humor.

After my 1995 presentation, D. Singh (see above) began to look further into the likelihood that animal models of estrus odor-induced behavior might extend to humans.

After my presentation in 1998, R. Thornhill (see above) challenged my assertion that there is no evidence supporting the common claim that humans are primarily visual creatures.

A decade later, he co-authored a paper that says something very similar (e.g., that men, like male canines can detect the scent of a fertile female). Does anyone think that we can, through visual assessment along, determine menstrual cycle phase in women? What do the facts tell us about the relative salience of visual compared to olfactory/pheromonal cues?

I know I can at times, when put in a situation with a normally cycling female, especially during ovulation period.

When working with an ovulating female, it’s like “Damn, why do I have this struggle with arousal”. I have done this 5-6 times in my life, the trick is getting them to let you know where they are, when you are not dating them it is a bit tougher to ask. and most guys do not come right out and ask a woman “when does your next period start?”

I have also seen a study by Desmond Morris (Inside the sexes? I think, some show I watched on the discovery channel or learning channel many years ago) where they did a study of women going to a particular night club, those with elevated estrogen levels (sign they were ovulating) were found to be showing more skin and tended to be a bit more risque on the dance floor.

Ya, I saw that one too. Just don’t remember the name, and not sure if it was the one with James in it or not.

Karl Grammer has done work in this regard. I vaguely recall that he was videotaped for a TV special on the subject. Probably filmed in Vienna.

Hey Kohl,

I am 23 male mixed ethic.

When in the club, in reference to what I said above, while dancing if I sense the girl I am dancing with is ovulating, I know I feel myself become more aggressive and protective.

I now know because of so much exposure to regain control analyze the situation and see my best course, to be able to step back so to speak.

I do believe it extends to humans, since I know for a fact I am extremely affected to the point my personality changes to how to best increase my chances of taking this girl out of the venue and bedding her that night.

I’ve read that ovulating woman tend to wear red more often than non-ovulating woman. I tend to target dancers wearing red, under the assumption that I could get a little more bang for my buck.

Are you sure you are targeting them? Perhaps by wearing red, they are targeting you.

There’s no reason to believe that the hormone driven behavioral affects would not extend to humans. As with other animals, some of us may be better at detecting cues that typically don’t reach our conscious perception.

Good point. Dancers are sneaky like that.

Some of them, perhaps. Others may merely be trying to get more bucks for the implied promise of a bang. I am, nevertheless, reminded of an attractive young woman at last year’s holiday party. Her tight red dress accented her figure. After a fast dance and during a slow one she complained about her pantyhose being bothersome. I asked if there was anything I could do to make her feel better, and she answered “help me take them off.” I thought she was joking. But she WAS wearing that red dress, and I now am left wondering what I might have missed.

There’s a stripper blogger/tweeter named Bubbles Burbujas who goes absolutely ballistic whenever somebody brings up the ovulation research. She thinks that the sample size was way too small and variations like huge sporting events could have possibly skewed the research.

I tend to wear red more when I am bleeding, actually - and richer, darker colors in general. And I usually tend to wear more white, and other lights while ovulating.
