Yeah, South Beach is the better diet if you compare it to the Atkins Diet. Like Daedelus says, it’s not low carb, but controlled carb. It’s not that eating carbs is bad in general. It’s just that the modern diet gets its carbs from processed foods, soft drinks, etc. South Beach helps to bring it back to the proper sources, like fresh vegetables, whole grains, etc. It also cuts back on the fat, but not TOO much. Sort of a happy medium between Atkins’ “Eat all the fat you want!” and Weight Watchers’ “FAT IS THE DEVIL!”.

Anyway, it sounds like you’re doing good so far, so if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Do keep us posted. I can stand to lose a good amount of weight myself, though I have figured out something that seems to be working. At work, our cafeteria has a hot lunch line for whatever entree they’re serving, a pizza line, and a soup and salad line. Previously, I’d go for the pizza, since there was no waiting, and I figured it would be more filling than salad. Yeah, more filling in ways other than hunger satiation! So, I decided to go for salad, and use Olive Oil and red wine vinegar for dressing, and it’s made a huge difference for me. I’m steadily losing about a pound or two a week, which is a healthy rate. I’m also turning my job into a cardio workout by going as fast as I possibly can for bursts of 45 minutes every couple of hours. This includes a lot of movement, and buckets of sweat, and I think it’s paying off. 😃

Calorie counting never worked for me. I would end up with foods I ate that “computed” to losing weight, but I would feel like crap and have no energy, and I didn’t lose any weight really.

Drink a lot of green tea (Wulong or white tea are great too)
It gives you some energy (contains caffeine but in small quantities) and accelerates your metabolism. My weight is stable (145lb) and I haven’t gained any pounds since I started drinking tea after eating High Calories food (like fried chicken 🙂)

If you’ve never heard of it, try the Big Breakfast “diet”… similar in nature to what Trisha was saying except you eat your biggest meal in the morning (something like 2/3 of your daily calories) - morning meal should also be higher in carbs and protein then your other meals.

After that just alot of small meals throughout the day - Gets your bodies metabolism back into high gear at the start of the day (after its slowed down from sleeping)

EDIT -

I should note that I personally haven’t tried this, a buddy of mine has basically been doing it for a year or so with very good results… I don’t do it because I’m one of those lucky exotherm’s who needs to go to the gym to gain weight

yep 1-2 lbs a week is the healthiest, usually if you lose more then that, it will just come back becuase it is only water.

another tip when i was losing weight, only weigh yourself once a week, or you will drive yourself crazy, becuase weight fluctuates with water and salt, and weigh yourself the same time, i always weighed myself on saturday.

In reality, weight is not as important as waist size and body fat %

Hey Acid. I’m new to these forums.

I have been going to the gym 2-5 times a week for the last few months or so and I’m down to 112kg from 120kg. I’m interested in checking out this Gabriel Method book just to see what he says.

Could you shed some light on exactly what the book is about and exactly what you have done to lose weight so far? Just because you haven’t really explained any of it yet.

since alot of this was posted last year,
im not sure what kind of response your going to get.
i find it interesting though that the post was about the Gabriel method, but everyone just wanted to give advice.

i listened to this Gabriel on Coast to Coast a.m. last week.
he was the speaker for an hour and i have to say, what he said made alot of sense,
especially if you believe your illness originates with the attitude/mind , like Louise Hay says or just about all alternative method practitioners will say.

_not that we are aware of why we are having issues_,
only that we can usually trace it back to an event.

we can “inherit” an illness/predisposition ,
but it has to be _activated_.
i can be predisposed to cancer and never get it.

i would definately look into it.
this guy seemed well educated and down to earth,
this does not seem like a fad.
it seems like something you can apply to all things going on in your life,
and im not even sure he meant it to go that far.
