\*\*Love your nebighor as you love yourself. Seven short words, spoken more than two-thousand years ago, by a man whose life the majority of historians agree had the highest potiential to influence the world- regardless of what they believe about the man himself. But here we are, thousands of years later, and we still live in a “survival of the fittest” world. Even if you’re like me and don’t like that term, if you have any life experience at all, you realize that it’s the way the world works most of the time. In workplaces, schools, cities and even _churches_, there are people that just can’t stand other people in the group. And it shows. Get this - Some pastors reject members of their own congregations friend requests on facebook, get this, because they have personal problems with that person. Imagine being a little boy or a little girl who looks up to the assoicate pastor, and then grows up and tries to make friends with him, and finds out that he dislikes your family and wants nothing to do with you! This may sound far because it has become the norm in this generation, but even the very fabric of our political system is not made up of individuals that say “Here’s what I want to do for the country, so consider voting for me!” but of people who spare not a penny doing everything that they can to make their oppoants look bad, a tactic known as “mudslinging”. In elections, you will rarely see someone hilighting his own strengths anymore, because he’s too busy talking about the “enemy’s” faults. \*\*

\*\*What I imagine when I envision a community living out the “Love your Nebighor” commandment, is a group of people that are all friends, all really close, and all really happy to see each other. And if there has to be poor people, the poor are fed, and are provided with a comfortable place to live, and given help getting on their feet and on the road to success. There are no outcasts, no talking behind other people’s backs, and little, if any, favortisim among relationships. I see no reason to avoid any individual, or group of individuals. I see a community of people living under the banner that reads “Love is the solution to everything.” In essence, I see a community of people that are joyful to be around one another, that build each other up, and maintain strong friendships with everyone that they know. Because, isn’t that what love is? Aren’t those the guidelines that you have for the relationships with the people that you love, or at least or they the guidelines that you would like to have? And we were commanded to live this way the wisest teacher that ever lived, and who had our best interests at heart. \*\*

**I was raised in a church, and growing up, the mission statement of Living Hope Church, in Coppell, Tx. was “Loving God and Loving people”. I was taught as a child, that when the pastor says something, it’s true, and when he tells you something that God wants you to do, you better do it. There was no questioning the pastor. Of course, in today’s world, you really can’t trust someone just because his title is Pastor, Doctor, and in light of the recent events in Irving, Dallas, and Arlington, not even if their title is Mrs. or Mr. (teacher) In some cases you can’t even trust the president to do the right thing. (Monica Lewiniski comes to mind) But back then, you didn’t question the preacher, because he was telling the truth, and I might add that everybody that believed in God back in those days would sooner be hung upside down than tell a lie. So when the preacher said to Love God and to Love People, I did it. Sure some people made me mad, but when they did I would quickly forgive them and control my feelings, and by an act of my will, I even ended up loving the bullies that seemingly made it their mission to ruin my life. It was hard, but it’s what shaped me into being the kind of person that loves everyone.**

**But as I mature now, and find myself turning the page on my teenage chapter of my life in a couple of months, I look back, and often times, I find that I was the only one in a group that lived this way. There are rare, exceptional people that come to mind, I can think of less than five, probably, that are loving, gentle creatures, some of them who do not even believe in the same God that I do, some of them even agnostic. This isn’t as much a bill that I’m going to send to congress and demand gets turned into law, as it is a philosophical anyalyis of life. Come to think of it, most human beings aren’t loving, gentle creatures, and often times when they are, they only are because it serves their agenda. Love is still the equation that produces a happy life, no doubt in my mind. And a loving community of people would certainly produce a happier, even perfect world. As it stands, however, that is not in the forecast for anytime soon. The third planet from the sun is filled with a bunch of people, trying to achieve goals, doing what they can to achieve them. Love? Well, they treat love like a prize that they earned, or by birthright deserve. The majority of people do not love strangers, or work acquantices, or even roommates. To most people, Love is something treasured deep in the human heart that they do not share with many people at all. As for me? My desire to love everybody and be loved by everyone was unnatural, and illogical, and contrary to the human spirit.**

**And that’s okay. If survial of the fittest is what it is, then I can play that game too. But I would have perferred for it to be the other way around. Well, as Mike Huckabee says, That’s my view, and I welcome yours.**

> My desire to love everybody and be loved by everyone was unnatural, and illogical, and contrary to the human spirit.

Love is our natural spirit. Whats unnatural and illogical is stuffing down that spirit with criticism, ignorance, greed, prejudice, hatred etc etc… but unfortunately its what people are conditioned to do and then they complain they cant find love. Not only do they do this to others they do it to themselves.

If they peel away all the layer of negative conditioning love comes back to the surface.

Its like a beach ball. Have you ever been in a pool and pushed a beach ball under the water ? Think of love as the beach ball and negative conditioning as the force pushing it down. Once you remove that force it returns to the surface. The ball will not stay under because its not its true nature. Love is our true nature and you dont need to look for it you simply need to allow it to come to the surface.

Its the same with people…You ever see someone drowning ? They flounder and thrash around fighting it and it ultimately does them no good. If they relax and allow they will naturally float to the surface. That’s why dead bodies float. They stop fighting and allow.

The one who truly survives is the one who allows love to come to the surface. The one who stays close to there nature because for that person no matter what life throws at them they are in a place of well being. From a place of well being anything can be achieved but when that love and well being is pushed so far under the water it causes us to drown in our own negativity you dont survive you just exist. That’s why so many people who focus only on getting to the goal find when they reach it the love and happiness they were searching for is not there.

I cant say this enough…Its not “your desire” that makes you love everyone. Its your nature, you dont have to play the game of pushing the beach ball under to survive or achieve your goals. Focus on your goal and just allow and you will achieve them in Love happiness joy compassion.

I am pretty sure you know I dont view god exactly like you do. I believe there is a higher power or energy that guides us all, a power we all come from and are a part of and I call that power god much of the time because its easier to convey what I am trying to say in a way people understand.

Perhaps its part of the reason we are here. To learn this lesson which you have already learned.
We can not force others to learn it. We must stand back as examples as god does and allow them to find it on there own journey. Sometimes they will push that ball under and we will be there to encourage them to allow it up again just as god allows you to fall then helps you back up. Always walking along side you, sometimes carrying you but always allowing you the true nature he gifted you with and the free will to allow it or not.

So upon your upcoming graduation I share this advice with you…

Be the change you want to see in the world. Stay close to your true nature. Do not change the way you play the game to win, win the game the way you choose to play it. That is survival, that is success. That is your true nature. 😉
