Hey guys, as some may know, I recently moved to Italy all by myself, and really don’t have anyone I know here. In a desperate act of humility I am asking if anyone has some good pointers about how to meet new people in a way that isn’t just a short term, one night hang out, but make lasting connections with people. I don’t speak Italian myself, but neither do most other people in Florence, and they have plenty of bars here where its all english speaking people, but at times when I am in them, i feel out of place because i’m all alone to start with. can anyone give me some helpful suggestions to get me back in the game? I appreciate the help in advance. ---

Walk in to the bar naked wearing a sign that says " I’m a millionaire on vacation from my designer shoe/chocolate/fine jewelery businesses, order a martini, and wait. 🙂 ---

For some serious advice… Try to join social groups. Search [meetup.com](http://meetup.com) to find mutual interest groups, or try to join groups learning languages, playing games or coffee shop talking together. Try newspapers to find them, or other sites online. The other option is to meet people through work/school. ---

thats the problem though, no school, work is not a meeting people enviroment ---

You can always try to join different clubs/groups. Take some dance classes,Karate courses, or whatever comes tou your mind. These are great place to socialize. ---

I wouldn’t even know where to start looking for such clubs in italy. any bar advice? ---

I spent some time in Florence 2 years ago and had an amazing time. The hot spots were filled with Americans, mostly female college students. Oddly, guys are not so interested in art so there was a shortage of men! I was with friends (actually 22 students from the college I teach at), but everyone was friendly and there to look at art and party at night. I remember getting drunk every night, dancing with everyone and lots of making out later. I don’t think flying solo in Florence is much different than any other place. Aren’t you in a summer session class or art apprenticeship? That would be the best place to meet people for longer term. After all, you’ll see them everyday for a few weeks or month. Other than the locals working in them, the bars are full of transitory people, many will be hoping on the train for the next city. The exchange rate for the euro is really good this summer. Wish I was there. Maybe next summer. ---

Thanks for the inspiration gegogi. I actually live here now, and yuour right, when i first exchanged my dollars over, it killed me, but now that im making money here, whenever i look at how much ive earned in dollars, i think ive hit the lotto 😃 ---

Not sure if they have groups in Italy but you might try [meetup.com](http://meetup.com) browse hobbies and interests and find groups of people with similar interests that like to go out.
