[Sweat makes men’s magazines more appealing - being-human - 02 July 2005 - New Scientist](http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=mg18625065.400)

A WHIFF of male sweat might help men’s magazines fly off the shelf.
Michael Kirk-Smith at the University of Ulster, UK, and colleagues, asked 120 student volunteers to rate the woman’s magazine _Allure_, _National Geographic_ and _Men’s Health_. Half wore masks sprayed with a [pheromone](https://pheromonelabs.com/) found in men’s underarm sweat. Women appeared to be completely unaffected, but the men exposed to androstenol found _Men’s Health_ more appealing and were more likely to say they would buy it (_Psychology and Marketing_, DOI: 10.1002/mar.20082).
But Nick Neave, an expert on hormones and behaviour at the University of Northumberland, UK, doesn’t think men’s magazines will be soaked in male sweat any time soon. “In the real world there are so many different influences competing for your attention it’s unlikely one factor such as androstenol could make you pick one magazine over another.”

So I guess if anyone has some sales brochures for men… perhaps a little androstenol might be in order.

I can’t help but think that wearing a mask is going to affect the results. I’d think actually applying whatever it is to the magazines themselves would be a better test.

Just a thought.
