> It seems to me society is becoming more polarized. I see many of the “flatter, more programmed” people, but I also see many people becoming more profound (whether spiritually or through technology). It is almost like a diverging evolutionary split.

I have to agree. Lots of people look at today’s culture and dismiss everything as “stupid”. But I think, within this large population of avid reality-tv-watchers and pop radio listeners, you will find some real gems once in a while.

This might be one contributing reason to why “eccentric” men are considered so attractive these days. Because of this polarization, a guy who might have been previously considered _creative_ is now more like _adventurous_, if that makes sense.

Interesting: a friend and I were taking this idea one step further… we noticed that homonid evolution has multiple evolutionary branches, some diverging into living species, although those in diminishing numbers, the great apes, yet also a great fan of the “near miss” population… (although there is now a concerted effort to rebuild neanderthal dnas from bones, and possibly regenerate an experimental species from them)… so, we speculated, has the processes of homonid speciation actually ceased, or are we still differentiating ? Look no further than or companion canidae, the wide range of the possible domestic dog, to see how tweaking mate choices can lead to substantial differences in inherited traits… has anyone successfully crossed a timberwolf with a chihuahua, and if so, WTF would it be capable of ? Timberhuahuas for sale in the extreme pet market ? A giant psycho dog humping your leg ?

Soon enough genetic screening will be cheap and popular, ordinary folks rattling off obscure genomic markets like baseball stats, romance sites offering gene compatibility… you think this is distant future ? Nyet, tovarishi, walk around NYC on a warm day and you would be astonished at the number of families that are producing twins… the fertility drugs used to push the envelope of childbearing in the older professional cluster who gave their twenties to punishing hours in investment banking… who have probably consented to only PhD level spermatozoa (good bone structure a factor as well)… 😮
