Long before I had any idea of pheromones, I had a cologne collection that if you saw, you would back out of my home slowly and call the people with the white coats.

I’m glad to see the women had evened out this thread. My latest love is Oud oils, they smell so damn good. I have some Burmese, Thai and a few others. I know it is expensive. I made a mix last year of Oud and Jasmine and went out and got one of the best reactions since Trussadri.

I like the woodsy, leather, tobacco with some spice or citrus. For daily or casual wear, the colognes I like are Hererra for men and D & G. For evenings, looking sharp and scented to match, I like Trussadri, Boucheron for Men, Amouage Reflection, Jubilation or Dia. I’m a bit all over the place, but I like my scents like I like my women. Understated at first, but upon closer inspection there is always more beauty and complexity to discover.

I am guilty of liking the “clean” scents, at least for work or daytime. At night, musky wood/leather feels right.

I look forward to see what comes.

Denec, thank you very much for this information. Though, I don’t know how I would ever go about testing whether it is indeed this compound that bothers me, since there seems to be no way to find out what ingredients get lumped under “fragrance”…

It’s basically a base note, and these would be considered aromachemicals which are used sometimes in conjunction with other aromachemicals in order to say, make something smell like rose or marine.

For example Iso e can be found in this formula for a version of a marine/ozone accord:

> [@](#):
>
> Marine Accord
>
> These measurements are in grams and would make 1000 grams of concentrate.
> If you have a gram scale, you could divide each component by 100 to make 10 grams
> To handle the trace components, you would just pre-dilute and adjust the formula.
> You can also do this by drops as a learning exercise.
>
> Galaxolide 50% (musk) 20
> **Iso e super (smooth woody amber - velvety)** 4
> Ambroxan (or similar - here you can experiment) 1.5
> Ethyl linalool (lighly floral) 6
> Helional (ozone) 2
> Calone (marine) 1
>
> **The Galaxolide and Iso e super provide a smooth “cushion”**
> **for the sharper marine/ozone notes.**
> The ambroxan is not really necessary, but adds an ambery elegance.
> The ethyl linalool gives a nice light floral touch, also optional.
> Ultrazur could be substituted for the calone. Experiment!

Frangipani was mentioned by ElectraComplex. I first smelled frangipani perfume in Tahiti. It’s a smell I like on a woman and my mother and sister both love the smell of frangipani perfume. Hard to find though.

Frangipani stateside is also known as plumeria. its one of my favorite scents but likely hard to capture due to the delicate nature of the scent. If you can grow plumeria trees putting the flowers upside down in cold water makes a nice hydrosol.

Ok, guys.

We have something like 10 new frags to test now. Maybe even a couple more, if we release everything we’ve received recently.

We have actual production quantities of 5 new fragrances. 3 for men, 2 for women. 4 for men were sent in, but I had to reject one of the batches. It didn’t come out right, and I really don’t want to release anything substandard here.

**From now on, fragrances will receive #s** to speed up the testing process, without undue psychological attachment. Much the same way as we currently test [pheromone molecules](https://pheromonelabs.com/).

**Names like “Ammo” and “Game” will be reserved for product identities only**. Their scents may occasionally change, until we find a “perfect fit”. i.e., scents that are congruent to both the name and it’s related design goals. Ones that not only smell good to the users and their target audiences, but also help promote pheromonal diffusion in a well metered manner.

**Future Forward**. While some of the new frags are nice and non-offensive, we’ve yet to receive the fragrances I’ve most looked forward to. The ones I personally want to smell the most are formulas the perfumers have “shelved” (placed aside) because they’ve felt they’re too costly or too unusual for typical department store brands.

**Remember when we helped save [basenotes.net](http://basenotes.net) from closing a few years ago?** Well then, you know how strongly we feel about supporting a niche fragrance industry. I think many here who appreciate niche or artisanal fragrances will likely feel the same as me. I’m sure you’ll want to see what perfumers have hidden away as well.

**From here to there.** I have to get the fragrances shipped over from our development office to the shipping office in LA. Expect to see these next week. We’ll likely give sample aways for free in outgoing orders to “reporter” level clients, in small 2 or 2.5 spray atomizers.

Any tests that include a pheromonal component will likely incur a cost, due to the much higher costs involved with pheromone molecules.

**Also important to note:** The fragrance we’ve called the “Game” scent is almost gone, and I’m not sure I’m going to renew it. It’s great for diffusion, and it’s so “clean” smelling it hides androstenone odors very well.

It’s good on a technical basis, however, too many people has displayed displeasure with the scent itself. Expect to see one of the 3 men’s scents we have in for testing to become the newest Ammo scent within the next 7 to 12 days.

**Old MXs dependent on deprecated fragrance packages will be renumbered as new.** Well liked MXs that that use the the old “Game” scent, will be remade with a new fragrance or diffusion package, and will receive a brand new MX number. Remember, any time a major component changes in a mix, the MX # changes, too.

Same thing with the pseudo-commercial products (the ones with brushed aluminum labels). Every time a major component changes, either intentionally or out of necessity, they will receive at least a minor version number change.

Thanks Michael for the update.

Btw I just tried the grapefruit for the first time today and here are my thoughts that I posted on other thread:

OK I just got it today…and did two sprays of P96 one to wrists and one to upper chest neck

initial thoughts, very strong in the first 30 seconds, smell the bitter grapefruit, can almost taste it LOL..

but then about a minute later, it evens itself out and balances out, and dries down to a very nice melon note with a hint of citrus and some tangy notes

This is definitely unisex and not too sweet at all compared to some fruity fragrances I have tried in the past.

I applied about 30 minutes ago and can still smell it but it is light enough to cover and layer with other fragrances easily I think.

I definitely do like it, way better then neroli, it is not as piercing as neroli is to me.

Nice to have new fragrances but please don’t change Ammo, the fragrance is very well hit on by females young and old . I was on a transatlantic flight and had a small vial of 2X Ammo which I used in one spray to the neck in two instances four hours apart :

1. When I saw there was a nice young 20-something girl sitting next to me. She was all eyes for about two hours of nonstop chatting with me next to her through dinner service, she even brushed up against me several times, but she was off to another destination when we landed

2. And the craziest thing is when I got up and did a fresh spray four hours into the flight, a flight attendant who must have easily been in her 40’s if not 50’s, but still blond and pretty, came through the cabin and had to stop and say how great I smelled and begged me to know what the fragrance was . I kind of said it was my own concoction of lime cologne and musk oil, and she said well it must also be your body chemistry, it was uncanny

So please don’t tinker too much with something that works !

Thanks for the update Michael! I’m looking forward to trying these new scents. Btw, I’ve been one of the game-haters (😉), but I actually like it now. Maybe the scent has changed - my first experience with game was with [MX203](https://a314.com/product/mx203/) and it was really terrible, smelled very chemical, like softener. Made me feel sick actually. And was far too strong! But the game in Ammo and MX292 is nice IMO. But maybe I just got used to it…

And I agree with Denec on the grapefruit scent. I like it much more than neroli. It’s a very fresh, clean and likable scent. Would it be possible to offer the Instant line in both neroli and grapefruit (without having to customize it)? Although maybe you should go a little lower than 6% with grapefruit - I think over like 5 sprays it can become a little too strong…

Edit: When you are giving the MXs new numbers, are we going to get something like a ‘mapping-list’, or do we have to figure out again what new number MX292 gets??

I agree with bubblebob, something that will tell us what is what would be great. Something like: MX292 is now MX(insert whatever number it’ll be in the future.)

Call me crazy but I actually liked the game scent better than the original ammo scent, it’s quite common for me to often get compliments about how I smell when I’m wearing a product that has it. And to be quite honest I’d _really_ hate to see it disappear. The only thing about it that started to bug me was when _ALL_ of the products coming from Androtics were in the Game scent. I mean it would be really great if you had a choice of your cover scent for at least some of the MX’s.

Plus I totally agree with bubblebob, a MX “mapping-list” would be really great if all of the numbers end up getting changed with the new scents.

Wouldn’t a particular set of pheromones with two different scents be, in effect, two different mixes? Because each scent is going to cover and carry the [pheromone molecules](https://pheromonelabs.com/) differently? So getting a choice of fragrances with an MX would seem to defeat the point, they’re test mixes and you’re testing the total package?

I can see an advantage to _not_ having a mapping list for the MX changes. The MXs are test packages, and if we don’t know what they are, we can really blind test them.

Just my $0.02 Aust, (about $0.164 U.S.)

You are correct, as I understand it two different scents would in effect be two different mixes. But at the same time it might be an ideal situation to examine how different scent packages may alter the effect of a mix.

Say for example MX777a is with one scent package and MX777B is with another. And if for some reason 777b has better or different results than it’s A variant, one could then look at that data and start to extrapolate how different scents and notes effect different mixes.

…As Steve would say, “it’s all about advancing the science.”

I would like something reminiscent of a mixture of my two favorite colognes. Something dark like ‘Polo Black Ralph Lauren’ (Original, not Double Black) and also something intriguing and arousing like the original ‘Tommy Hilfiger’ for Men.

But to second some awesome ideas, I definitely liked: the smell of a distant bonfire, and a hint of vanilla, something reminiscent of cedar, and tobacco.

Another idea that would be tight would be a ‘cherry-vanilla like’ cologne. One time I mixed certain colognes together and got this smell and have always remembered it since.

>
> I am listening, and I will do my best to get somewhere scent-wise that’s compatible with both our design goals and your own personal goals with pheromone products. My preference is actually to get you something even better scent-wise than what you can find at the department store, if at all possible.

I’ve always loved Joop (“Joop Homme”) can’t live without it. It’s pretty strong stuff so I’d assume its got good diffusion characteristics but that isnt my field so who knows.

I’ve been looking into making my own scents (specifically to have an oil base to mix with my pheromones). Among my searches I have found (the site is basenotes, the link is to the joop profile page): [Joop! Homme by Joop! (1989)](http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120881.html) Which you might find is a good resource. It lists the top / middle /base notes of the commercial fragances, though I’m sure they are not 100% acccurate but it may be a good resource for you.

Also interesting, you can search by single scents, such as neroli [Fragrance Directory - Basenotes](http://www.basenotes.net/fragrancedirectory/?notes=neroli) 🙂
