Generally we say up to 8 feet away but you have to consider the environment and sillage of the product. In a room you will eventually effect most people who are in there with you at some point. As you move around the mones form a vapor trail much like a good cologne will do. That vapor trail will lead to you so at times distance can be grater then 8 feet.
