\*\* Online Mix Calculator \*\*

My mix calculator software has been out for a while and I hope that people are finding it useful. I noticed that a lot of Mac and Linux users were unable to use it, as the software was written in [VB.NET](http://VB.NET) for Windows based systems.

So, I decided to create a version of mix calculator that would run on all operating systems. I spent quite a bit of time thinking about the best method and eventually decided that a Google spreadsheet based app would be the best option. This way the calculator is available online and can be accessed from any computer that can connect to the internet and has a web browser installed (like IE, Firefox etc.). All you need to access the online mix calculator is a gmail account which is freely available.

The development is complete and I am ready to release it. It is in the form of a spreadsheet which runs a script in the background. Google allows you to share the spreadsheet online to any number of users. The downside is that only one user can edit the spreadsheet at a time, which I don’t like. So what I will do is allow you to copy my script and the spreadsheet to your own google documents. Then you will also be able to modify the script and spreadsheet as you please.

Sounds great? Well, here’s the downer. It won’t be free.

I have spent a considerable amount of time working on these mix calculators, so I have to attach a cost to it to keep me motivated as well. So, what you need to do to get your hands on the online mix calculator is paypal $10.00 to my account smellscent at gmail dot com and then send me an email to the same account from your gmail id. Then once I check my email I will send you an invitation to share the online mix calculator with you.

What is your recommendation about the best way to use it?

Sorry boss, I am not sure I understand what you are asking. Basically once you paypal me the money ($10.00) and give me your gmail id, I will share the google spreadsheet document with you. Then you can copy the spreadsheet and script for your use.

The instructions for using the calculator are in the spreadsheet as well. You simply need to enter the no. of components, enter the available concentration and desired output of each component and click on calculate.

I have an earlier version but my question was designed to be a leading question for you so you could let everyone know whatever different ways there are to use the calculator … ie … as you did in your last sentence.

Thanks for the effort but i personally would not pay for a google spreadsheet, i have used you win version via windows on virtualbox and like it.

If you produced a native linux app using the opensource version of .net which is mono then i would. Till then i will just fire up virtualbox.

I personally find myself using the online mix calculator more now because of the convenience, as I can access it from anywhere, and because I can also save my mixes online and modify them whenever or wherever an idea strikes me without having to wait to go home. I can even view my saved mixes on my phone (android os). But of course not everyone will need or care for this functionality. For them there is no need to waste money on an online mix calculator as the installable mix calculator, which is free and fully functional, would work just fine.
