The analysis of love has moved from the embrace of poets into the arms of science. A recent series of precise studies reveal some of the key brain areas and molecules, like oxytocin, involved in the ability to love and bond with others, according to December’s [Brain Briefings](http://web.sfn.org/content/Publications/BrainBriefings/love_andthe_brain.html). This research creates a better understanding of how the brain controls love and bonding, which is critical for species survival. In addition, the work may help researchers find ways to treat autism, anxiety and phobias.
Scientists have long been intrigued by the hormone [oxytocin](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxytocin), which plays a role in complex social behavior. The hormone is part of a system in the brain that controls the formation of emotional bonds, and plays a role during sex, childbirth and breastfeeding. Now, scientists at the National Institutes for Health and Justus-Liebig University in Germany have discovered that oxytocin, which some have dubbed the hormone of love, can make volunteers less fearful.
In a paper published in the Journal of Neuroscience, researchers found that volunteers who had oxytocin sprayed into their noses had less fear response when shown frightening images than those given a placebo. Volunteers’ fear reactions were measured through a very sensitive brain-imaging technique that revealed less activity in the part of the brain known as the amygdala. Diminished activity in the amygdala has long been linked to increased sociability and decreased fear, wrote the researchers, whose work was funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. The scientists said the research suggested the possibility of using the hormone to treat serious mental disorders characterized by increased anxiety and fear.

Hello there. Though not an ordained researcher per se, I’ve been working a bit on this very hormone/neurochemical myself.
A synopsis of my first-hand oxytocin research: the most noticeable effect indeed was reduction of acute fear response. Administered during a horror flick, oxytocin seemingly did away with any jumpy jolty heart-racing fear-like symptoms. It was strange indeed not to experience that set of familiar feelings during an admittedly frightening movie. That said, oxytocin, at least at the doses permitted by intranasal delivery (and we’re talking up to 10-15 puffs per nostril), has not represented a significant breakthrough in treating my social anxiety, and in the end, does not measure up to ethanol in terms of anxiolytic effect. A further drawback (in its pure form at least) is its extremely short duration of action, 1-3 minutes I would estimate, though I do believe others have suggested a longer duration of action. That said, it is a very promising compound, and its reputed effects are, I believe, real. In terms of further inquiry, one very simple thing I’d like to be made aware of is the standard level of circulating oxytocin in your typical human, and to what levels they spike when mom suckles you, your friend high-fives you, etc. I would, naturally, adjust doses accordingly…

Oxytocin in the news

Boston Globe, December 26, 2005

Of special note. Page 2 mentions Liquid Trust as being too weak to be effective.

more on oxytocin

my doctor has used oxytocin nasal spray with some success in women she thinks to be deficient due to various medical problems (particularly helps them in intimate situations).

Crenshaw labels oxytocin as “hormonal superglue” that keeps us connected to one another long after the PEA wears out. She says touching is a key element of producing oxytocin, and “touch deprivation” is a sure way to deplete your supply. Consuming too much alcohol also can decrease oxytocin levels.
The oxytocin effect is more powerful in women, probably because it works in concert with estrogen (more plentiful in the female body) and is subdued by testosterone (higher in men). Research shows that men who regularly stimulate their mates’ oxytocin levels are treated by those women with greater affection.
Friar says some researchers have found oxytocin levels dip below optimal amounts in men and women if a couple doesn’t reach orgasm twice each week (which explains Friar’s dates in his planner). What’s more, one study of 3,500 individuals finished in 1999 by psychologist David Weeks showed people who have sex at least three times each week appear 10 years younger than their actual age. He interviewed subjects from the U.S. and Europe.
Weeks, an American psychologist on staff at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Scotland, reasons that oxytocin and its role in affection is one reason for such youthfulness.
“It’s not a case of these people having more sex because they look younger,” he says. “They actually look younger because they are having more sex in loving, stable relationships.”

ouch causes our bodies to produce a hormone called oxytocin. Not only does touch stimulate production of oxytocin, but oxytocin promotes a desire to touch and be touched: it’s a feedback loop that can have wonderful results. Oxytocin makes us feel good about the person who causes the oxytocin to be released, and it causes a bonding between the two persons. Nursing a baby produces oxytocin in both mother and child, and this is a major part of what initially bonds the mother and her baby. Even thinking of someone we love can stimulate this hormone; when women in good marriages were asked to think about their husbands, the level of oxytocin in their blood rose quickly.

There’s more. Oxytocin plays a significant role in our sexuality too. Higher levels of oxytocin result in greater sexual receptivity, and because oxytocin increases testosterone production (which is responsible for sex drive in both men and women) sex drive can also increase. Moreover, this hormone does not just create a sexual desire in women, coupled with estrogen it creates a desire to be penetrated (that is, it makes her want intercourse).Oxytocin increases the sensitivity of the penis and the nipples, improves erections, and makes both orgasm and ejaculation stronger; it may even increase sperm counts. And while oxytocin can move us towards sex, sex increases production of oxytocin: nipple stimulation, genital stimulation, and intercourse all raise the level of oxytocin in men and women. Orgasm causes levels to spike even higher, three to five times normal, creating the “afterglow” closeness that is experienced following lovemaking. The fact that sex increases oxytocin levels can be helpful for women who complain they “never feel like sex.” Having sex, even when you don’t have a drive to do so, will actually affect you in ways that will result in a greater sex drive. This also explains, at least in part, why many women find that the more sex they have, the more they want, and the less sex they have, the less they want.

Oxytocin has a special relationship with estrogen … women have much higher levels of estrogen than men.

Of course no hormone acts independently. Hormones amplify or reduce each other’s effects, and increase or decrease production of other hormones. Among other things, oxytocin increases the production of both estrogen and testosterone. Oxytocin has a special relationship with estrogen. Oxytocin is virtually powerless with out estrogen, and oxytocin’s affects are increasingly powerful as estrogen levels rise. This explains why women are far more affected by touch than men. Women have much higher levels of estrogen than men. This also explains why women respond to the same touch differently at different times of the month. When her estrogen is high (ovulation) even a slight touch can have a strong affect; when estrogen is low (menstruation) it will take more touch to get less of a response.

Another interesting effect of oxytocin is that it decreases mental processes and impairs memory. This is why hugging and touching can help us recover from an argument. The oxytocin helps us to stop thinking about it, and even forget some of the pain we felt. While hugging may not be a natural response during conflict, it can quickly cool things off.

I have Liquid Trust - the oxytocin spray (think Countess has it too), and you are talking to one of the world’s BIGGEST sceptics here, but let me tell you, the stuff does EXACTLY what it says on the tin.

I have been gobsmacked (I need to watch Brit terminology I noticed..) i.e. literally stunned by the way people have been with me, and only started using it two days ago.

People in a small local shop: Woman on the cash till started telling me how she had taken money from her husband’s wallet that morning as she needed to get a new jacket - the woman has known me all of a month. I was taken aback. Lots.

Same shop: Woman behind me: Asked me if I tinted my hair or was a natural Blonde (grrr..) said I had it tinted - no shame in that I think. She proceeds to tell me she has always wanted to but feels she is not brazen enough (what??) to pull off the look, and thinks her husband might leave her!

Result: I am totally thrown.

Forget I have the stuff on and when “The Man” comes over, am thinking I am in for a night of hell, as he is having a horrid time at work at the 'mo.

He sits down next to me and within ten minutes, proceeds to talk to me about something I have been wanting to discuss for AGES!

He was also very cuddly and affectionate. He generally is, but NOT after a rubbish day at work.

Result: I am thinking this is good stuff. Will be testing more this weekend. Extensively. Combining with 'mones this time.

Ail 🙂

how can all those ppl report the liquid trust to be “working”, when all the mentioned scientifical links above clearly state and PROVE that LT is fraud?

in short: oxytocin is a hormone and not a [pheromone](https://pheromonelabs.com/), so it cant get in to the air at all and therefore not be “inhaled” by the people beneath you!

it has to get into the blood in hig doses (thats why its injected mostly)

Therefore the only person who could MAYBE benefit of LT is the sprayer himself, if so at all, because the stuff degrades rapidly when not in a freezer.😮

So what is all this about?😕

I think there are too many people reporting a placebo effect 😕

What do YOU think dear forummembers?

greets to all Phero fans here.

It is interesting reading the results of those who have used products containing hormones and [pheromones](https://a314.com/). It is true that many scientific studies state that the effectiveness of these products is not validated under scientific scrutiny and this may be true (we know so little in all the sciences and are always learning).

Another area that many don’t take into consideration is the psychological side of these products. The conscious/subconscios mind is a wonderful thing making people believe things that aren’t real and also affecting behaviour based on so many influences in our life current and in the past. Not to take into account the zeal of religions and other philosophies that drive people.

The psycho-social profile of those who generally use the products to influence/effect/modify social attractons and intimacies is usually a person who feels that they lack some of the skills/traits/tendencies/physical attributes needed to get the most from those they interact with in their day to day lives. What is interesting is that when a person uses these products (and BELIEVE) they setup subconsciously a set of protocols that can influence many things in their lives. With a belief in the substances what happens is that subconsciously/consciously they will become more confident about themselves, and also their behaviours can start to mimmick those they see successful arround them. This change will not just give them more opportunities with those around them, but also create more opportunities as subconsciously/consciously they may also create more social situations based on the confidence and social changes that may occur from their belief in the product they are using. This explains how the individual is affected by the belief in these products.

Then there is the affect they have on others. When interacting many people will have feelings about others they meet, based on perceptions of appearances, the way they interact, demeanor etc. When a person acts more confidently and believes they are going to be percieved as more trusting, appealing etc, there are non verbal cues that many people are unaware of that they react to and in so doing give feedback to each other. When you find you have chemistry with someone, and seem to just click, it is not just what we do that enhances these encounters but the nonverbal sequences that we respond to unconsciously.

As a result the conbination of the above can increase the number of social encounters as well as appear to give one the appearance that the product they are using is opening a doorway that is there as a result of changes in behavious brought about by the belief in a product. And in the end.. hormones/pheromones etc… may or may not work, but in the end with the change in the psycho-sociological state, will make a difference in the users life. So the product can work, just might not work the way they think it is.

Hope this gives a new perspective to others in this forum.

Cheers
