I had no idea the book had been made in to a film. Twisted little story that it is I do want to see it.

Carrie I remember reading that the Priest and the woman he gave Grenouille to noticed when he was a baby. I think Grenouille himself didn’t become aware of his own scentlessness until well after the first murder and he was a hermit already for years.

I hate watching films made from books I’ve enjoyed. They usually do disappoint due to being unable to match my imagination or expectations.

Anyone see these? Oh so expensive but such a pretty collection of scents inspired the movie. [Le Parfum - Thierry Mugler](http://www.perfume.thierrymugler.com/us/)

I don’t really think Grenouille is supposed to be sympathized with… he’s creepy, self-centered, manipulative, egotistical, and more :o But that’s why I totally love him.

Thanks for pointing out those perfumes inspired by the book! I’ll really need to give them a closer look 😃

This book was the catalyst that sunk me into the world of perfumes and olfactory magic… ahhh! Good to be here! Though my wallet isn’t thanking anything 🙄

So my friend had been interested in seeing the movie, but she hadn’t read the book; I bought it, read it, and gave it to her. We both really enjoyed the novel, but she was disappointed in the film (I didn’t see it, as I have no drive to watch TV/movies/etc). Plus she told me that Grenouille’s actor was attractive… NO NO NO! ☹ I like me some ugly boys, and Jean Baptiste is as ugly as they come. Bah!

Keep to the book, dang it! I want UGLY 😠

I didn’t think it was disappointing. I honestly thought the film kept more to the book compared to most others (Harry Potter _rollyeyes_). I agree about the choice of actor for Grenouille though, I was expecting him to be made into something like the hunchback of Notre Dame.

Loved both of them. 🙂 Especially the orgy. 😃

I don’t think he’s fundamentally bad, it’s just that the only thing he understands is scent, and all other things (values, wealth, society…) was just totally alien to the guy. And I think at the end he realized that even though he could fool people with his bomb they would never love him for his true self.

anyway, i’d totally sympathize with the guy. although sympathizing with him would be a waste of time, because he doesn’t understand feelings! lol 🙂

That and the fact that he’s just a fictional character. 😉
