Hi, does anyone know the shelf life for pheremones?

I know most colognes last 3-5 years if well kept, sealed, and no air gets in there breaking things down.

thanks

I have a handful or products with many of them 1, 2 and 3 yrs old, and they still work as intended.

They are kept in room temprature, dark packaging most of the time. A couple were found empty, as they evaporated due to bad seal, NPA is one of those with funny bottle cap.

If bottles are sealed properly, I think many would last for years.

I have not seen anything definitive posted about shelf life but I’ll share my own experience. I’ve noticed definite changes in the scent of Essence of Woman and NPA For Women (both purchased at Love-Scent, not here). They became softer and more palatable over the course of a year. Essence of Woman is packaged with a rubber dropper top which is kind of silly given that EW is known to dissolve rubber! The NPA For Women comes in a standard reducer-top bottle similar to that of A314, though - no air exposure with that type of packaging. It’s actually kind of pleasant smelling now!

I would expect pheros diluted in alcohol and bottled in glass to last at least a year, probably longer. (The 5-ml _plastic_ To-Go sprayers are intended to be used up quickly). Beyond that I’m not sure if any testing has been done … I’ve never read about any.

Based on what I know about shelf life of fragrances, storing them away from **light** and heat is crucial. I keep mine in a drawer. Fragrances can keep much longer than 5 years, by the way, but certain elements like aldehydes and other top notes are the first to go - I don’t know enough about the components of [pheromone products](https://a314.com/shop/) to extrapolate anything about _their_ longevity, though.

If products are unopened and stashed in a cool dark place away from light they can last 3-5 yrs. hopefully the products will beused up before then.

Being a highly volatile compound, the biggest worry is to keep your stuff air-tight. Given the high number of aromatic rings and relatively low polarity of most of these compounds, they should be relatively stable. Although, they may be less stable in an alcohol mixture than an oil, I wouldn’t think these would have problems keeping for years… definitely keep them in a dark place… I’m sure that’s why the bottles are tinted dark as well. We don’t want any UV radiation breaking those lovely keytones/alcohols or anything!

I’d expect the copulins to break down much faster than the others… they’re mostly just fatty acid chains (quite different than the others). Speculating, I’d give them _maybe_ 6 months…

I hope I’m right about this stuff… I’m still technically an undergrad, so don’t take my words as “doctor material”. Certainly correct me if any other organic chem buffs spot an error in this logic 🙂

</div>

No, you are not correct. Copulins don’t break down faster, and if kept unopened and SEALED, products containing copulins will last for years.

Essence of Woman on the other hand, as Carrie rightly says, causes the ridiculous rubber-stopper on the bottle to disintigrate, and does not come sealed, but if transferred to another bottle as most of us women do anyway, it’s good to go for ages. The potency of the product itself will NOT change, the strength of the powerful Essence of Woman “aroma” however will, as it will mellow significantly. Opened it’s fine for at least 18 months, but you will soon discover that those of us who use Essence of Woman as a regular feature of our pheromonal arsenal, purchase it maybe once every few weeks. as it is THAT effective for women to use for sexual attraction to males, and once they get to grips with this tricky-to-master product, women will very rarely turn away from it.

Oh, and I want to correct something you said in another post elsewhere LustEquation. Women on BCP, Nuevo-Ring, Depo-Provera or other birth control methods, DO still indeed produce copulins, it’s just that this is to a much lesser degree than those women who are NOT taking oral or injectable contraception.

Dolly, Countess and myself are the Essence of Woman-queens here (with Lor and a couple of others chasing our heels) I have no cycle to speak of, being on Depo-Provera, and Dolly was on The Pill for many years, so this is one reason we both can practically swim in Essence of Woman with no ill-effects, but since it’s designed for WOMEN to use to attract men and is a fail-safe for US in any case, that doesn’t bother me one iota, as EW is my weapon of choice, so to speak.

And yes, I AM a Doctor, now an HOD lecturing one. Just before THAT one starts up again.. 🙂

If you’re a medical undergrad, you should have a basic understanding of why a MAN wearing copulins cannot possibly get the same result as a woman wearing copulins to attract men, but I have broken down the process in various posts including the sticky at the top of the Women’s forum, and am still actually trying to get permission to post something here to define the whole picture. That though here in Scotland, is proving to be something of a headache, but I am still attemptng to find a wrokaround so that I can post the reasons why copulins WON’T ever work as well for men as they do (without fail) where women are the wearers.

Ail 🙂

Alright, for some reason you sounded kind of defensive in your post Ail 😕 . I was just trying my shot at explaining my reasonings for “[Pheromone](https://a314.com/) shelf life”. The thread was started in November, and it hadn’t really received much of a scientific backing yet, so I thought I was helping…

I never ever commented on copulins being made specific for a woman’s arsenal and so I wonder why that was brought up so? Everything I’ve read so far would suggest that men don’t produce them whatsoever and that they’re found in highest concentrations in the vaginal secretions of ovulating women.

If there’s any good journal articles you could point me at which you endorse, I’d be very glad to read them, Ail. Your own work included 🙂 - this is pretty new stuff to me and I’m more than interested.

I just explained that MarkL. I am at the moment trying to get permission to do so, but it’s an uphill battle just now. No, it is fact, not personal opinion, or otherwise.

LustEquation:Iif it came off as defensive, then that was definitely not my intention, However, I note elsewhere you have posted specifically about thinking of using copulins yourself, and I have already tried to save many of the male members of these forums considerable money by putting it on the line just WHY the results MEN get are so hit and mis.

Even our most mad-scientist male user Catlord, stopped using copulins except in a very few of his actual mixes (as in mixed into one bottle) as he got fed up with the way copulins can backfire when used by men.

My mistake … I thought the scope of your earlier remark was pertaining to the effectiveness of men wearing copulins.

This is mostly on-topic… :o

I noticed that there are at least 2 solvents used to store our lovely [pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/shop/): an oil-base and an alcohol spray.

I was wondering… these solvents are likely designed to ensure,

1. a long pheromone shelf life (ie: molecular stability)
2. maintained volatility (you want it to be capable of subliming into the air and thus into targets’ noses rathar than just sitting in solution or on the skin forever)
…and
3. easy application

I realize that many of these pheromones are structurally similar and thus, could ride in the same solvents with equal success…
…but it begs the question: How many different solvents do these products exist in? And if they’ve been customized primarilly for the purposes of 1 and 2, then is it really smart to make your own mixtures? I’ve also read on the forums by people that they never spray the same scent on the same skin location… is this mainly pheromone superstition or does it have similar reasoning somehow?

🙂 …food for thought… 🙂
edit:
(and before its brought up, I wouldn’t assume people out there are mixing the oils with the alcohols. I was more wondering if there were many different alcohols or different oils used for the purposes of optimizing 1 and 2)

Your best bet for answers on that particular topic, is to head to the Women’s forum, as many of us there are accomplished blenders and perfumers.

As for don’t spray perfume/cologne in the same area that you have applied pheromones…I can only say many of us ladies with a lot of pheromone usage under our belts certainly DO apply one after the other in the same areas, after about 10 minutes respite, and that has been detailed time-without-number by several of us, so maybe it’s just something the men do.

It certainly is NOT necessary in any way.

hi ail,
i have a question that though not on subject according to the title, i am hoping will be appropriate here(i hope tons of leeway and forgiveness is heaped upon the newb). you mention that copulins are significantly less (or even ‘in’)effective for men when using to attract women but very useful for women to attract men…how would that factor in in the ‘gay’ world…if a man wore copulins to garner other mens’ attentions would that be effective? and if you have written more about that particular subject of the men/women copulins theory i’d love to read the rest of it, it sounds really interesting…is there a link you could give me?
thanks much!

Gay men still have [male pheromones](https://phero.com/), just in different ratios then straight men. A gay man still wouldn’t be interested in a “woman” even if the scent is worn by a man. Being gay isn’t a “choice”, it’s biochemical, hence the different pheromone ratios.

okay i think i get it..i mean i know gay men produce pheromones..i’m pretty sure i produce my fair share as far as the ones for people liking me and wanting to open up to me goes..that constantly happens to me whether i want it or not.
i guess i didn’t really understand copulins and tried to do a search but it was hard as there is so much to find and read on it and my behind falls asleep on this chair in front of the computer..that and the old a.d.d.! anyway..so i am gathering that copulins are created by woman so a gay man would in no way respond to that as he wouldn’t be hardwired to respond to female chemistry in general?
thank you for the response to that question mtnjim…i am as green as they come to all this phero science!!

Mtnjim has it right-on. I’ve read a scientific paper or two stating that gay men have the same hypothalamic responses to smelling -none and -rone as straight women do. Straight men on the other hand have brain activity in a different area of the brain in response to the same samples.

In a similar but different study, lesbian women’s hypothalami were found to react to copulins and estratetraenol in nearly the exact same manner as straight men, and likewise, they had non-hypothalamic responses to -none and -rone.

Hope that helps 😃

You got it. Men, gay men, and women all produce the same mones, just in different ratios. There is one very specific exception, copulins, they are **only** produced by women.
