Learn to READ. My post had nothing to do with mental illness, it was about how people acquire sexual attraction. Where in the hell did you see an insult in that? 😕 Sorry if you didn’t _get_ it. lol @ you thinking I’m ignorant… you are foolish.

Thank-you. By the way, I don’t need your approval, nor did I ask for it.

Uh, I never said homosexuality was bizarre and disturbed. In fact, if you look closely, I never even mentioned bisexuality. I left those two out of the group entirely. I think it is an acquired attraction, that’s all. Homosexuality and bisexuality don’t make the cut because it doesn’t impose ill will against others. It is generally accepted in society, and while it doesn’t hold up to my religious values (why is this even an issue?), I still think it is an ‘acceptable’ way of living.

Where you are drawing the conclusion that I’m ignorant, and insulting is beyond me.

P.S. What’s wrong with editing a post? 😕

LOL @ me losing rep points because of this topic. I’m sorry if my opinion (which coincides with a pyschiatrists, btw…Lor, you live in tampa…look up Joseph E. Rawlings, and see what he tells you) conflicts with popular opinion, but like I said, the mind is an incredibly complex function.

The reason why I’m not so sure about that theory is because there was a guy who had no testosterone at all, and with a few visits to the doctor for a few shots, he was able to raise his test. levels to normal level. I shouldn’t say “raise” his test. levels, because he had NO testosterone at all. He said that he didn’t have any sexual attraction whatsoever until he recieved the shots. I’ll try to find an article on it. And as far as the brain changing, I know that it changes all of the time ala while meditating or praying. If you are talking about studies comparing changes in the brain from homosexual men to heterosexual men, well, then I’d like to see like comparisons for other sexual attractions aswell. Bisexuality is just like everything else, it is gradual exposure, and “experimentation” that leads to this acquired attraction.

if he had no test at all, then he wasn’t a man. period. He’d be pre-pubertal. meaning very little muscle tone, no body hair, etc, etc. He might have had low-levels of test, if he was sex-differentiated, but what that has to do with the price of tea in china i don’t know.

as for your homosexuality views - can I just ask a question? your straight right? when did you choose?

In terms of age, he was a ‘man’. He was past the pubescent age range and well into adulthood. As far as what state his body was in, it was pre-pubertal. So you’re correct. I brought that up to address that hormonal imbalances doesn’t determine sexual orientation as this man was heterosexual, and did acquire the sexual attraction after the injections. My question was to MarkL for a deeper explanation of the hormonal imbalances he referred to in gestation, and to possibly provide a link or two regarding that theory. I’m not sure if the same hormonal imbalances he is referring to during gestation is the same that any adult can find themselves in just by poor dieting.

As far as your question goes, yes I am heterosexual, and I explained what I meant by a “choice” several posts up. It is not a _conscious_ decision, but it is effected by several things, including environment and nuture. In other words, I don’t agree people just wake up one day and _decide_ to have sex with the same gender. I do know people who have “experimented”, though. Of course, you would probably label them bisexual for whatever reason. I just see them as sexual beings like myself and every other creature on this planet that has a reproductive system. A _decision_ comes into play by gradual exposure, and through subtle, yet noticeable attraction.

Does anybody not understand the mind/body connection? 😕

Well, my grammar has always been pretty shoddy. That first error was supposed to read as a seperate group from the others mentioned. I think we can all agree that pedophilia, beastiality, necrophilia, and those other fetishes are bizarre and disturbing. The whole point to that paragraph, and basically my entire argument is that it is an acquired attraction. Still, if I were to have grouped bisexuality with those other examples than it would have implied it more directly. Let me correct myself, no I do not think homosexuality is bizarre and disturbing. It has been practiced for thousands of years, and in prevalent civilizations. Unfortunately so have the others, and they still are in some parts of the world.

Sexuality ISN’T established until an individual hits puberty, however, attraction is - and it is learned. When I use the word perversion, I mean it is intercourse that isn’t between a husband and wife. I am guilty of heterosexual perversion… why do you think I’m on a pheromone board? :o Of course, that isn’t the subject that is being discussed.

> [@](#):

I can. His name is Joseph E. Rawlings, and his stance is that homosexual ‘tendencies’ are within everybody.

In context with my psychological debate. I did not by any means put them on the same scale. I said that it was an acquired attraction between consenting adults. I don’t see where I said it was bizarre and disturbing.

> [@](#):
>
> Rape is considered a horrific act that would lead to a mans death in prison, yet it happens all of the time. It’s an underlying perverted attraction that overtakes logic.

Right. People do things that pleases them regardless of popular opinion, or whatever consequences they may reap, especially when they feel they can justify their actions. Does that I mean I find homosexuality bizarre and disturbing? No. Do I find it to be a perverse attraction? Yes. We are sexual beings, we will always crave sex without the desire to reproduce.

> [@](#):
>
> It is about tolerance, and while I do hold a biased point of view (I am religious)

I do hold a biased view. So what? You do, too. It doesn’t mean I find homosexuality intolerable. People can do what they wish as long as it doesn’t impose ill will onto others. Simple as that. Yes, I find it immoral, and _gasp_ sinful, but I sin everyday (though I try not to- and no, this doesn’t mean I think I’m better than anybody, either - just to clarify), so for me to be intolerant of it would be hyprocritical.

I do think it is utter bullshit. And, I cannot stand people who try to convince others that they’re gay. In other words, hazing them to the point of chasing them into their house and locking themselves in. That segment refers to the stereotyping that has been rampant everywhere, and it is disgusting that anybody can sit there, fit the sterotype, and draw the conclusion about somebody without even having an open discussion with that person. That is what I find intolerable. “He’s quiet, has a high-pitched voice, and look at him, he’s so scrawny! Maybe he likes art. Yep he’s gay!” That’s what I call utter bullshit.

> [@](#):
>

**Within the belief system** , absolutely. I shouldn’t have to explain why.

> [@](#):

I am tolerant of homosexuality outside of the church, in that I do not care who sleeps with whom as long as it does not impose ill will on others. When I say I find it acceptable, I don’t mean I find it moral (even though morality is subjective to whoever sees fit), however, I don’t hate gays, and I don’t think they should be alienated in society.

Maybe that clears things up…who knows? 😕

OK, [here you go](http://www.gfmer.ch/Books/Reproductive_health/Human_sexual_differentiation.html).

[Not to mention](http://www.lemoyne.edu/OTRP/otrpresources/otrp_glb.html)

> [@](#):
>
> - There are four aspects of sexual differentiation and organization: genital (reproductive organs), neurological (differences in brain structure and functioning), secondary sexual characteristics (breast development, facial hair, etc.), and behavioral (sexual orientation and sex-typical behaviors).
> - Each of these aspects may be “inverted” (the individual has the characteristics of the other sex) with respect to the individual’s karyotypic sex (“XX” or “XY” chromosome pairing).
> - Sexual orientation is revealed by a **consistent** preference for sexual relations with same-sexed or other-sexed partners. If there is a degree of ambivalence about the partner’s sex, the person is bisexual. Sexual orientation is not altered by occasional sexual experiences with noncongruently sexed partners by choice or in the absence of alternative sexual outlets.
> - Sexual differentiation relevant to sexual orientation occurs in hypothalamic areas of the brain (in 1987 the preoptic anterior nucleus, ventromedial nucleus, and anterior nucleus were known).
> - Brain sexual differentiation develops as “female” unless there are high levels of testosterone (an androgen) in which case “male” brain differentiation occurs. In human beings, hypothalamic differentiation begins about the middle of the second month of gestation and is completed by the middle of the fifth.
> - Primate neurological sexual differentiation can be affected by four different interventions: (a) direct manipulation of androgen levels during gestation; (b) pharmacological blocking or augmentation of the effects of androgens; (c) exposure of the pregnant female to stress (which can depress androgen levels); (d) immune-system responses to androgens.

[And of course we don’t want to leave out](http://taylorandfrancis.metapress.com/content/h9r2uetvbwl5vjtc/):

> [@](#):
>
> Male sexual differentiation of the brain and behavior are thought, on the basis of experiments in rodents, to be caused by androgens, following conversion to estrogens. However, observations in human subjects with genetic and other disorders show that direct effects of testosterone on the developing fetal brain are of major importance for the development of male gender identity and male heterosexual orientation. **Solid evidence for the importance of postnatal social factors is lacking.**

[Then there is](http://gendertree.com/Two%20Spirited.htm):

> [@](#):
>
> From experiments with animals, “experiments of nature” in humans, and genetic and neurological studies come a consistent, though still circumstantial, stream of evidence that indicates one’s sexual orientation is largely hormonally determined by the presence or uptake of testosterone at key periods in fetal development, and possibly even beyond. Female fetuses exposed to testosterone-like agents develop a 50/50 chance of a lesbian versus heterosexual orientation if raised as girls. Studies of identical twins also indicate that when one twin shows homosexual or lesbian expression, there is a 50/50 chance of homosexual or lesbian expression in the other twin—whether raised together or apart.

While I can respect your religious beliefs, when you say there is no science, or that the science doesn’t count, well…😠

ok so this is getting into straw man territory - but either he is a man, meaning he went through puberty, or he was pre-pubertal, meaning he looked physically like an 8 year old boy. You prolly do need to do reading on hormones in general, before getting into topics like this, because it’s becoming difficult to have this conversation, as we are clearly speaking of two different things. I think mtnjim gave you some great links to start with.

well i think a predisposition to be gay is a genetic trait. Just like I knew at 2 or 3, that i liked boys, i’ve had friends who at 2 or 3 intuitively liked boys as well, except they were boys. But to understand what we are saying, again, you prolly have to wrap your head around gestational hromone affect and expression first.

Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! 😃

Openly gay men (and women) are some of the coolest people around. And quite frankly they don’t give a toss what a bunch of Bible bashers think anyway!

They just say “I’m Super, Thanks for asking!”

And the snide comment: “between two consenting adults ( **mostly** )” Could just as easily be applied to hetro-sex too!

LOL, first of all, you don’t have a clue about my political views. I think Bush is a lunatic who uses Christianity to gain the right-wing majority. I don’t vote, period. I’m libertarian on most of the issues, but I’ve come to realize that our voters system is tampered with anyways. I could go on about my opinion on 9/11, but I’ll save that for another time.

Another thing, “dont knock it until you’ve tried it” implies that the attraction is acquired, which is the whole point of this subject matter on my end.

How is it that somebody can be married for 20 years, and then decide that they’re gay? That in itself conflicts with the whole born-gay theory, unless you’re saying their true feelings were ‘repressed’. How is that so when sexual attraction is solely biological? Are you saying that gay men/women DO have sexual attraction to women? If not, how exactly did they manage to have children? 😕

Last but not least, I don’t care what anybody thinks about me, so I don’t expect anybody to care what I think about them, either.

Snide comment? I was pointing out the fact that homosexuality is (usually) between two consenting adults. I think it’s a given that this same aspect can be applied to heterosexuality. When I say ‘usually’ I meant that rape occurs regardless of orientation. Anything else you want to twist out of context?

Well of course I meant HIM Lor, I mean that is what my whole world revolves around.

This is getting tedious; I’m gonna go scratch my balls or something.

Over and Out.

PS: Now that the entire Nature vs. Nuture question has finally been solved - in one forum posting - we can all have a good rest. And to think Chomsky and co. thought it was a combination of the two!

They were still very successful. Where Milli Vanilli were caught, they were never ridiculed or exposed like R. Platus. Didn’t he end up committing suicide?

I saw her on the news the other day doing an interview. What a lady!🆒

It takes people a long time soemtimes to fully acknowledge who they are - especially with something with as much stigma as being gay still has.

So you go through your life, living for everyone else, doing what society, your folks, your church, your friends tell you you should do. And one day, you work up the nerve to look at yourself, realize you’ve been lying to those you love, living a false life, and with constant paranoia if you’ve bene getting soem on the side, and decide you don’t want to put up with the pressure anymore.

as for sexual attraction - i don’t think that is solely biological - i would think that’s more on the nurture side, with a little anture thrown in, but preference, i think id the other way around - mostly nature with a little nurture thrown in.

if you believe otherwise, explain how someone from a perfectly “normal” 2 parent household - Joe Average - turns out gay? How do you raise a child to be gay? (sure you could make them listen to Barbra Streisand from the womb, but that’s no guarantee)

and yes, from time to time, homosexual people do wind up being sexually attracted to the opposite gender.
