Pheromonal Stimulant?

Yes, but I want to repeat the experiment a few times before I comment at length.

Yesterday I became a new member of an established work group, second in command; I’m 25 to 35 years older than most of the team members. My intent (and my observational bias, heh) was to communicate leadership and ‘gravitas’ (A314) while also provoking a sense of fun and openness (Alpha Androstenol). My role is to develop the leadership cadre of this team while enhancing operational effectiveness and driving customer delight and growing the business without altering the business mission. Simple.

I did not notice anything dramatic. Good! I got respect and candor, at good, not freakish, levels. We worked together well and I got good information when I asked for it. I’d previously met and worked briefly with three of the team members over the past years, and I’d say I got a warm welcome. Laughter, smiles, “let me get that for you”, and some vibrant conversations, but mostly on-task … customer related or operationally focused.

At one point, I told one of the team members (away from the group) that I thought it was amusing that he was using “Sir” to address me, and I implicitly challenged the appropriateness of doing so … and he answered immediately and easily that it was only natural, that he liked doing so. Respect without deference but comfortable, with plenty of candor.

I’ll shut up now. More to come.
