Ramblings of an idle blogger or is there really something to it? Most probably a joke. Anyway it’s a fun read!
[Pheromones-the Next Big Thing in Security | CSO Blogs](http://blogs.csoonline.com/pheromones_the_next_big_thing_in_security)

From the post:

There has been much discussion in the scientific community on [pheromones](https://a314.com/) relative to sexual attraction. **I’m about to start a new company called Smellprints, LLC**. It will be a combination biotech and security firm utilizing human pheromonal extracts taken at puberty (even though they develop in the embryo, they become functional upon the onset of puberty) for all those born in the US and a requirement upon entry into the US. Extract and synthesis at the embryo stage is set for our third round of financing.

Smellprints intends to use two different types of pheromones those being Signal and Primer. Signal pheromones cause short-term changes, such as the release of neurotransmitters that can directly modify the recipient’s behavior. This will be effective for business, consumers and the government alike. Parents will be able to influence the behavior of their children (and maybe even each other (Stepford)) through periodic and/or continual release of the Smellprint signal pheromones. Business can use these to influence behavior at work. Falling into the wrong hands and you could inadvertently trigger aberrant behavior leading to sexual harassment claims. The hook to CISO’s would be to utilize Smellprints at meetings with the board of directors, the CFO, CIOs, etc. to get these groups and people to change their behaviors relative to security. Instead of FUD, we use Smellprints. Funding is easier. Awareness a snap! Regulatory issues avoided!!

Primer pheromones evoke long lasting changes in the body. This is the more expensive of our product line, Smellprint Primer or as we like to call it Smellprint P3. We envision multiple product lines for security professionals. Emitted through heating and air conditioning ducts, we can control web surfing behaviors, reduce the data leakage to near nil, influence developers to write ‘proper code’ and if we can infiltrate the domains of such places as TJX, actually change behaviors and outcomes before they happen (as soon as our sister company – PreCrime, LLC gets off the ground). Strict adherence to product policy is strongly recommended as some CISO’s may use our products for overfunding.

From our Alarm pheromones line of products (fight or flight) to our Releaser and Territorial pheromones, we will corner the security marketplace.

Alarm pheromones - Since this emission is either a fight or flight chemical reaction, we can use this at airports, in police stations, or in internal investigations at corporations when presenting forensic evidence on unacceptable behavior. The government could use this in wartime to elicit a flight reaction from the enemy. Yes we have already been contacted by In-Q-Tel.

The Territorial line we’ll use to analyze the intentions of system administrators as this pheromone is akin to identifying dogs urinating on the perimeter of their territory so others will not violate their space. We can influence this behavior to a positive outcome.

Trail pheromones should be used by security professionals to lead all employees of their company down the path to security awareness. Trail pheromones can be left by the CISO and his/her staff as they walk down a path of security righteousness and truth. All will follow as long as the scent stays strong. Think of it as a Disney-type of It’s a Small World’ but in this case the song is It’s a Secure World. Creates for quite the pheromone based captive audience.

In this regard, we note that any odor from Smellprints, even the scent of rose, becomes aversive when it is released in significant quantities. Thus, though pheromonal communication typically occurs without consciousness, pheromones, when produced in high concentration and released through the Smellprints product line, may still have both conscious and adverse effects on others. Please read the label before using.

Interestingly enough I wondered whether pheromones would have had a use when I worked as a doorman to help diffuse situations. Assuming that they would work on club goers that had been drinking maybe some instant shine or instant openess would have reduced peoples tendancy towards aggression or confrontation and made them more incline to talk and reason.
