I haven’t found this in the search function so here we go.

I know I have seen discussions on evolution and the Androsterone vs Androstenone man. What I have not seen is discussions on is pheromone effect on personality. I know that hormones and other chemicals in the body effect mood, but do they develop our personality and characteristics as well?

I’m wondering about this, because I believe that some people may be more alpha androstenol while others may be more beta androstenol like people. Before I started wearing [pheromones](https://a314.com/shop/) I just assumed that I was an extrovert and that I just like talking to people. However after being on mones and then taking the last 30 days off I wonder if that’s not entirely true. Honestly I would rather stay in my house and not interact with people, but the moment I go out people tend to approach me and talk to me. Does that mean that I have a high alpha-androstenol signature? One other thing that guys I work with always give me a hard time about is the fact that women divulge so much information to me. I get bra size information, cycle times, and all kinds of stuff. Do I put out a lot of beta-nol?

I’m just wondering if personality is more social because of my natural mones, or are they a minor factor. Any thoughts? Even more, can a personality type be created by mixing the right mones together? I’m not talking about just perception.

So that people don’t think I’m going crazy, I do realize that life experiences also affect personlities. I’m just curious if our core personalities are mone related. If you ever watch babies you can see that they often have their own personalities very early in life.

When people are open with you JW, is it from your body language?

Is it something that you’re sitting there and you’re just getting conversations from both men and women?

Just curious to know if its how you open people up, or how people respond to your [pheromone](https://a314.com/) sig

I believe body language has something to do with it, however I have found that people cannot stand near me very long without talking to me. My own personality may be affected by culture, upbringing, and situation, but I have found that people just start talking to me. Now I do remember this happening regularly before mones, but after taking a break from mones I believe it is more pronounced. What’s really interesting is that I have nevere used IO. 🙂

I don’t think this has anything to do with mones. It definitely has to do with something about your looks, or your first impression.

See, let’s say you’re lost in some shopping mall or something, you will look around, and in your subconscious mind, you will filter out any person that don’t look like that they will give an answer to you. You go up to those that you THINK are friendly and approachable by the LOOKS. This is the power of our mind, and is further elaborated by Malcolm Gladwell in his book - Blink! The power of thinking without thinking. This is why sometimes you hear your friends complain that people **always** go up to them and asks for directions and they go like “MAN, am I like a walking map or something?!”

Thus, same goes to you, you might just have the look that you are chatty, sociable, I believe it has nothing to do with your signature.

Hmm, I have the same effect on people…They just start talking to me, especially if it is just me. In my case it is mimicry and body language, I come across as very open and a bit safe and innocent. People say my expression is like that of a puppy and performers say I’m a good audience. Sometimes I also talk to strangers without realising it. I see no harm in it, sometimes it leads to good experiences. It can be anoying when I want to read on the train, or be alone for a bit.

No I would consider it opposite. Your natural mones are effected more by your personality. In other words our outlook on life and our health effect our hormone production thus effecting our pheromone production.

Its not your [pheromone products](https://a314.com/shop/) creates your hormone production effecting your outlook .

No pheromones can not change your personality permanently. They can make you go though a range of emotion but if your shy just being exposed to IO wont change that. Your personality changes by your thoughts and beliefs.

So for instance if the reason your shy is because of discomfort and IO makes you feel comfortable you may begin talking more and being open. If you just dont want to talk IO wont make you chatty.

If they do have a effect on personality its minimal because I beleive personality is created by many different factors and changes frequantly for most people.

Every aspect of our physical and psychological functioning is a feedback loop. Right down to the level of individual neurons, you find neurotransmitter overflow being absorbed by the signaling neuron and stimulating further activity. Organ systems release hormones which influence the behavior of other organ systems, which then signal back for continued, congruent activity. When you raise the corners of your mouth as if to smile, your neurochemistry becomes more consistent with a state of involuntary smiling.

It doesn’t end at your own skin, either. The influence you exert on the people around you–through appearance, posture, gestures, language, and pheromones–are repeated back to you all the time. People are constantly nudging each other toward consistency.

So I think your pheromone signature and your personality do not so much cause one another, as they are manifestations of the same integrative process. Changing any part of that process will change all of its manifestations.

Is your avatar Derren Brown?

Thanks for all of your explanations. I do however feel that hormones have a very large impact on our personalities. That being said it would seem to me that since some pheromones do affect hormone levels that they may have an effect on personality over continued exposure. Some people just seem to be more beta-androstenol while others just seem to be more alpha-androstenol.

Yep, that’s Derren Brown 🙂

I agree with you that pheromones have the potential to alter the user’s personality over time. Because they make you feel different, and cause people to respond to you differently, they act as a social learning accelerant.

A person can work to improve their personality over time, and as the people around you gradually begin to expect the new set of behaviors, the social environment supports a crystallization of that change. Anything you can do to modify the expectations people have for you will naturally promote change in the direction of those expectations. And I think pheromones definitely fit that description.

So, if my pheromones tell you I’m an alpha, you expect me to act like an alpha. You convey those expectation back to me in a variety of ways that make me more likely to behave in ways consistent with alpha behavior – and that includes both conscious and unconscious behaviors. So not only mannerisms and social posturing but also hormone release, stress response, immune functioning, etc.

\ ***WELL SAID**. \* This is a crucial explanation of how incredibly dynamic we and the world around us are.

While I can’t say that I have directly isolated any specific long-term changes due to frequent use of pheromones, I would question the idea that pheromones cannot have any permanent effect on a given organism. Given the incredibly dynamic nature of humans, possibly more so than any other animal, I would argue that there is most likely at least small, subtle changes are inevitably created, even if some are caused mere memory of effect. Take, for example, something quite clear-cut: studies have shown -none to increase testosterone. Testosterone (or lack thereof) has a profound effect on your your body as well as personality. A proper example is the frequency in which discontinuation of any other agents that increase testosterone or other hormones (steroids, herbs like Tribulus and Tongkat Ali, etc.) tend to have a profound effect on mood, outlook, motivation, various sexual functions, etc.

Essentially, just about everything you are exposed to or do has an “effect” on your future state. Given the sheer _power_ of pheromones (for this I’ll cite the overwhelming majority of posts in this forum, as well as many of the studies posted) they will inevitably cause change, and possibly changes that are less than subtle. The power or impact of such changes is a topic that anyone frequently using pheromones should be interested in exploring. My general assumption would be that these would not tend to be simply either negative or positive (although some could be labeled as such) but, as dbot pointed out, indelibly connected to an extremely wide range of dynamic variables.

If you wear high amounts of pheromones daily, the change upon your organism is of no doubt. The question is: what are these changes and _how significant are they_?

I personally have a strong feeling that pheromones have changed me as a person even when I don’t use them, if my observations are “_for realz_” they seem to be an increased sense of confidence, being generally better in social situations, and having had subtle changes on not only my body composition and pheromone signature, but also my friggin’ posture… although I could see people having a sort of ‘comedown’ experience as well (which I’ve never noted) where the lack of pheromones would cause you to feel less confident, slump your spine down, etc, but in that case, and any case for that matter, you’d have to account for retrospect. If you feel like hot shit for months or even days at a time, and suddenly you feel “normal” then much of what you note could be attributed to your noticing the change and your mere return back to the ‘original state’ (an ambiguous state which I only use as reference since it is a given that we are in a state of constant change) and your looking back on the time when you felt the positive effects.

I’ll also note that I like to wear TAF and sometimes IH or IO during my infrequent visits to my psychotherapist. It seems to supercharge not only our capacity for conversation, but I think it also enhances the therapeutic potential of the meeting.

I’ll have to experiment with TAF in therapy sessions. As a therapist, I’ve already been testing A314 and IH for this purpose, and the combination seems to yield increased trust and increased desire to follow my therapeutic directives – which at least in theory should lead to more positive treatment outcomes, but it is still far too early to say for sure.

If your therapeutic directives are good ones, I could see how that combo could have potential. The pheromones you use should probably be patient and situation dependent. For instance since my therapist and I have an ongoing dialogue about psychoanalytic theory (lacan, speculative-realism, etc) and philosophy alongside my personal issues, TAF seems to help us both get into a more intellectual mood. I’m not sure I’d necessarily recommend it for patients who want to mine more purely emotional territory, I haven’t found TAF to be especially helpful for that. As for A314, I’d suggest not using it in some situations when you are with a patient who isn’t totally comfortable in the therapeutic setting, or if they themselves have particular issues with self-respect. You should also consider the frequency in which patients put too much emphasis on their therapists instructions even _without_ any agents promoting it. It’s generally unhealthy for people with low self-esteem, emotional issues, and especially those who are on any place in the borderline spectrum (a much larger number of people than most think) to decide that there is someone who ‘has all the answers’. I’ve had experiences while wearing A314 with a mild borderline and bipolar friend where she told me she’d thought that I’d had all of the answers for her, and while that could just be a great ego boost for some people, I didn’t really consider that idea healthy for her at all. It obviously wasn’t just the A314, I’ve always been a mentor for her; but when people are lacking in self-respect or if they don’t respect or trust their peers, you have to be careful about how you present yourself. Therapy is not about merely chipping away at issues in the room you’re having the sessions, it’s much more about them getting back out into the world with a better, healthier, and more thoughtful outlook on their psyche, relationships, and and lives! This is not to say that A314 couldn’t be helpful in therapeutic situations, but I’m weary of a therapist using it undeclared without careful consideration as to the patient they are conferring with and the situation you perceive them being in at the time of the session.

Another pheromone that may have potential in both of our situations, as well as ones like them, is P74. But like I said, especially for the one on the therapist’s side of the relationship, you’d better be not be careless with any variable that has power over people’s emotions and sense of trust. Not to imply that you aren’t, you seem to be _generally_ thoughtful (haha, as if I’ve ever even met you, but you seem like a smart guy), but I thought it was worth mentioning given the delicate space of the therapeutic session, not to mention the delicacy of some of the patients’ mental states.

Good thoughts, and thanks for the explication of your use for TAF. I generally agree with you when it comes to insight-oriented therapy, because transferential issues are such a huge part of the treatment.

I’m an Ericksonian, so my main goals in therapy are to efficiently disrupt limiting patterns, open up new possibilities, and improve access to internal resources. For that type of therapy, rapid trust and compliance are key. The more closely that my clients adhere to my instructions – which are structural in nature, not content-specific – the better off they are.

I’d say my main goal in testing pheromones is to develop an “Irresistible Persuasion” mix. A314 + IH is a decent start.

It’s posts like yours number 9 that help me maintain my viewpoint of pheromones as a self help tool. I agree that P74 is a terrific putative for building trust. Actually I found it to be staggering and unfortunately uncomfortable for me.
