This comes from a sequence of experimental, symphonic, and powerful emotic mixes that I sometimes wear in high-growth-potential circumstances… translated into English that means when and where consenting adults choose to be for the porpose of increasing their behavioral or thought skills… the distinction between what is cognitive/symbolic/mental and what is felt/emotive/visceral is tenuous at best… as one television program on the subject explains, the limbic or midbrain mind is our “GO” system, the one that sends out impulsive, instinctive, not contemplatated directives… eat! mate! defend! run!.. although it also appears that this is a much simplified view, the limbic system is probably home to much of our natural, automatic, “true” selves… and the fantasy or mind-movie processes that form the scrim of our background consciousness… and the frontal or neocortex part of the brain is out “STOP” system that allows us to process the long term consequences of our actions, and the one that gives us our reasoned, linear, time based thinking… as the host of the program clarified, it is the _ **quality** _ of the dialog between the GO system and the STOP system that distinguishes the socially elegant, appropriate (and by most accounts, greatly more successful through life) and well attuned from the clumsy, disconnected, not-all-there offputting social presence of someone who obviously isn’t getting over and has no chance of getting over… to expand on that a bit, the person who is overly limbic may be amazing fun once and a while but lacks the capacity to self observe and self regulate, they misread social cues, overeact emotionally, are careless with facts, and need a lot of supervision… OTOH the person who is overly cortical may be perceived as stiff, uninvolved, rule and structure obsessed, lacking in empathy, tunnel vision personality…
Life today, whatever that is, seems to want to pigeonhole us as either “limbics”… untrustworthy children who need to be watched closely and kept in narrow structures, or “corticals” who are so self monitoring and self regulating that one mutates into a corporate droid-bot whose skull has become a round container labelled POLICY…
Is there a better way ? Can one have the best of both worlds ? More, can the successful integration of the two processes allow one to live more richly than one might have imagined possible in the limbic-id-rebel-teenbrain slot or the cortical-superego-authority figure-hardass slot ? Can one merge the flexibility and imagination of the young mind with the structure, time sense, and perspective of the elder brain ? **To be continued …**

One thing I’ve noticed is that I’m picking up more social cues since I’ve started using pheremones. Maybe it’s because I’m looking for them more now, or maybe my perceptual ability has been altered. Maybe a combination of both has enabled some learning to occur.

People used to cue me in a lot on the cues I was missing. Doesn’t seem to happen as much anymore.

So… this fascinating thing begins to happen… and not only to me… normally… whatever “normally” means, I’m sorta in one mode or the other, social roles and all that, as if the brain **supresses** to some extent the opposing response… when I’m called on to be “cortical”, i.e. responsible, rational, adult, analytic my inner pilot mechanism turns down limbic thinking, and when I’m in “limbic” mode, at one point in time this transition was assisted with good alcohol liquids, I’m almost deliberately being non-cortical… what I’ve noticed, however, is that the most interesting, socially successful, and financially successful people seem to have a very lively interplay between their cortical and limbic thinking.. possibly this is trained in or modelled or somehow learned during early childhood, possibly it is genetic, I don’t know… I do know that the great run of humanity seem to be cognitively less agile… moving from limbic to cortical and back is not the graceful, inspiring experience it could be, and sometimes damn embarrasing, such as when a rigid office type starts drinking and goes off the deep end or a “limbic” personality can’t resist certain temptations… he’s a limbic, remember… they’re the GO system… see the goodie, EAT the goodie, etc… see the boob, FEEL the boob… makes for a fantastic work environment, I’ll tell ya… as well as a social environment…

OK… enuf buildup… so I’m refining complicated pheromonal things, and in the proces of doing so I often have small residues of these on my clothing… were talking sub-mu frequently or maybe one or two mu of everything, in toto…

And I’m frequently in moderatly controlled social environments… so there is a higher degree of control than random human associations… and I’m more frequently obseriving the most interesting, useful thing(s).. a substantially freer movement back and forth on the cortical-limbic continuum, without the messiness of alcohol intoxication, I would say the difference is like being on a good set of skates and gliding around the mindscape instead of clunking…

This supposes a well structured process environment where people are there by free will and WANT positive outcomes, so the micro-mones assist this intention in becoming ability or skill.

Often I have seen facial expressions of moderate surprise, light to middling perplexity, almost childlike wonder, or just plain enjoyment as the cortical-limbic path frees up and what was like a sticky old lock mechanism becomes a well lubricated component…

The second odd thing I’ve observed is that this isn’t exactly dose dependent.. large doses can often do other things, sometimes so much so that they interfere with the primary growth process, just like a little music helps conversation flow, too much music drowns out conversation…

The there is a deeper lever of payoff too, as the mind becomes accustomed to this freer, more mobile, stretchy way of thinking, and it does sort of feel like a deep yoga stretch of the mental muscles, one does… with time and consistent practice (important disclaimer… still ain’t no free lunches ) these “high class/high order” mental processes become more and more a function of habit and attributes of one’s personality…

The major payoff for me has been the ability to connect on a richer level with a far wider variety of people without having to make a social effort or put on a facade or game or trip of any manner… the explanation there may be that social excellence IS the natural consequence of limbic-cortical coordination, and few people have intrinsic knowledge or skill in this area… probably because these brain regions have some distinct evolutionary purposes or arose at different evolutionary phases in primate development to cope with survival problems…

somebody pls rep tacitus… we prob should have a sticky thread on topic of using pheros for personal growth.

I am not as far along on this journey but notice some of the things to which tacitus alludes.

to what extent is this learning the result of having an extra dial to twiddle… playing with none one quickly becomes attuned to the nature of dominance/submission behaviours and status and one starts to see this dynamic in all kinds of situations where it had previously been occult. once you start adding in the reptilians and post reptilian putatives there is a whole set of layers of behavioural programming exposed that one simply would have been oblivious to before.

well… yeah.. living life in the western techno economy pinches off many a neural pathway that was probably active, useful and damned interesting in other times… one of the most damaging aspects of contemporary life is comparmentalization and/or fragmentation… most so called adults today are cases of psychic non-completion… I’d also bet that much of what traditional cultures do is fluidize certain mental paths so some forms of (what we would define as or label) profound human connection are second nature to them, and things that are second nature to us, like psychic splitting of limbic from cortical responses, may seem alien and profoundly unsettling to them… it may aslo be that survival within the modern corporate environment requires careful separation of the various levels of brain function, which may then may re-emerge as poorly intergrated obsessions, hungers, greeds, or confusing, overwhelming emotions that need to be “managed”… I regularly see youth culture programming on TV which is a clear example of pure limbic… errr… thought, which is making millions for executives who are weird split cases of cortical decisions and legality sitting atop very confused, needy id (limbic) messes… but neither the hard core limbic existence nor the cortical existence are particularly interesting in and of themselves, when the two are moving in harmony, this is the rare magical person we sometimes encounter, we think WOW… how refreshing! I live in urban Honolulu. Lots of homeless folk that haven’t showered for years. I can barely keep from gagging when I walk by them. I guess it’s too much of a good thing. Ya know, those guys aren’t exactly babe magnets, so their natural [pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/shop/) must not be cutting it. Better turn them on to Androtics…

Ah dunno, but I’ve used pheromones 5 or 6 times a week for the past 4 years. In my distant memory I recall a light buzz and some illusions of social invincibility. Alas, those feelings graduately faded after a few months and I don’t feel much if anything from pheromone applications, let alone emotional growth. I put it on, forget about it and go about my normal day. Yes, I appreciate the edge and ease they help give me in social interactions. However if I need to grow emotionally I’d first look within. And that’s a dad burn abyss. As an artist, that’s our first and foremost vehicle of expression. In other words, emotional growth is what feeds our demons of creation.

would love to hear more about what you have discovered about ritual and shamans… i am reading joseph campbell at the moment - fascinating stuff…

also, i don’t understand why the corporate environment specifically should require such a separation. it seems to be particularly something to do with a US corporate culture - have noticed it much less in European firms and in the more independent London offices of US firms. perhaps partly a consequence of us court system… but more due to an odd element of US culture more generally.

One has to take into account both mind set and social setting

Although pheromones are, among other things, fluidizers… perhaps analagous to dietary supplements that fluidize (and hypothetically rejuvenate) rigid, aged cellular membranes, or something akin to that, fluidization alone doesn’t produce spontaneous growth… my belief, or working model for the moment is three things are required… a fluidizer, whether a skillful ritual trance induction, a psychotropic substance, some powerful natural phenomenon that disrupts ordinary consciousness (intense meteor showers, volcanic eruptions, mega-weather) or, in our case, or possibly pheromones IF used correctly… so, you have something that assists in changing the inertia of the present mental state… trance, shock, shamanic drumming, cactus alkaloids… spring break at miami beach…

Then you have to have a context… shamanic drumming down at the local mall probably won’t serve as well as shamanic drumming under a full moon deep in a canyon in Utah…

And it helps greatly to have a culture (which implies shared intention, desire, goal directions) of growth or transformation or healing… either that or some intense personal experiences that are teachable… if the social goal is getting shitfaced and hopefully laid you might not tap into the same energy planes as you would in the presence of a lineal master of an ancient tradition…

So there briefly is the A, the B and the C of it… all of that rests on the presupposition that there IS deep level free will, that one can choose aspects of one’s essential being…

I like the limbic-cortical contrast set in the brain **hardware**. I’ve often used the UNConscious-CONscious distinction to contrast the ends of the spectrum of brain **software**.

Research shows that a lot of what we do is the result of _ **unconscious cognition** _. For example, your UNC monitors your body homeostasis. When the sensors say that the % of H20 in your body has fallen below an optimum range, you feel thirsty.

BUT there is experimental evidence that you begin the motion to pick up the glass (to get a drink of water) from 45 to 200 milliseconds BEFORE you become aware of feeling thirsty or have the conscious thought “I want something to drink.”

Catching a fly ball – calculating the arc and speed of descent – is a great example of purely mathematic/geometric unconscious cognition.

So the image/symbol of the iceberg pops up again. Perhaps 80% or more of our thinking never makes it to the conscious level.

Now, let suppose for a moment that you are working with some electronics project, and you’re using a soldering iron – an old-fashioned one, very valuable as an example of 1930’s cutting edge technology.
It’s not unusual for a person who drops a red hot soldering iron to try to catch it before it hits the floor – either to protect the floor, or the soldering iron. But – sooner or later (sooner, we hope) – your CON steps in and VETOES the catch. (Most of the time, it’s too late, and the individual gets a serious burn, but was consciously realizing why NOT to catch the iron even as they wrapped their hand around it.)

My hypothesis: we are impelled to act based on cognitive and emotive processes in the UNC; the CON may veto, or put on hold: it issues a HALT command. (Ever see a performance of an actor who is unsure of where to take a scene? There’s a reason why critics use the term “halting performance” to characterize that kind of tentativeness.)

However, what I find interesting is that the CON somehow creates the illusion of identity: most people that I’ve met seem to operate under the model of self that they are what they think (consciously.) Hence the stigma for scoring low on standardized intelligence tests or for being crazy and props for skill at logic.

I suspect that many people actually believe that being thirsty is “recognized” by the CONscious mind, then they make a choice to get up, go turn on the tap and fill a glass of water … when it’s probably more like this:

- UNC notices hydration level, feels “thirst”, is motivated to change level of hydration (drive/emotion)
- UNC tenses legs to rise from chair
- CON notices “I’m getting up from the chair”
- UNC directs footsteps to water tap, arm to pick up glass
- CON “I’m thirsty”
\*]CON “I knew that!”
Or, if you already have a glass of water in your hand, reading a book, or watching a film, or talking with someone – the UNC just makes the hand and mouth move and the CON doesn’t necessarily notice that you’ve taken a drink, so it happens “automagically.”

It’s true of psychoactive drugs, and quite probably in this context as well.

I think the UNC-CON distinction, although valuable for conversation, is somewhat deceptive. The things that have been hidden from me were in plain sight, and the deepest levels were right on the top.

I have played with objects that can hurt if they contact, like the soldering iron. I took some time to think about what happened if they left my control. Now when I drop one, my instinctive reaction is to jump away, clearing my appendages as much as possible from the line of fall. Then the rational processes kick in, and say something like, “you didn’t have to jump that far” or “you sure looked silly!”

Yes, we really can learn – but remember that CONscious competence precedes UNConscious competence.

I am really curious to know, however, if it’s your CONscious that takes credit for the vast bulk of your decisions and actions, or if you’ve gotten to the place where “Who’s in charge of my identity?” is more of a whimsical question than a rhetorical one.

NLP based projects and programs for doing this

In NLP practice one can tweak the unconsciousness-consciousness-unconsciousness cycle in order to pop things into consciousness, do constructive work, and drop them back into unconsciousness with efficient swiftness. A relative minority of NLP doers have sufficient experience to pull this off and keep it so smooth that nobody particularly notices or cares… and even the best must continue learning or grow stale… oh boy is there a pile of stale old skills floating around… stuff has to be current and juicy or it is like dry seed pods of once tasty fruit. Anyway… not that NLP is THE answer for this nor that… simply an example of making active choice where most people assume passive acceptance of “the way it is”…

The cortico-thalamic pause: the moment of integration and balancing, of free flow.

It’s a moment that _seems_ lucky – as if it is pure happenstance, coincidence, fortuitous.

And it is “happen-stance” if you think of your life posture as your stance and your life as what happens with you.

It is “co-incide-nce” if you’ve made the effort to harmonize and align UNC and CON, cortical and limbic brain, and bring them within the same focal bounds.

It is “fort-uitous” because the ease and flow of a graceful stance where mental and emotional forces are in harmony represents an uncanny power.

And you’re right – if the goal is getting wasted and laid, it’s not as if you’re going to be able to keep the full range of your power agile and capable when you exercise such a small arc of that range.
