Hey, I’ve got a question about [pheromones](https://a314.com/shop/) and stuff.

I’ve got nystagmus and esotropia. If you don’t know what that is, I don’t want to fill pages with it, but let’s just say they are eye disorders. Sometimes one eye or the other is “crossed”, and it alternates sometimes depending on what my brain is doing. Only instead of being cross eyed, I’m wall-eyed. I also have nystagmus, which is another thing. When I was a kid I was teased about it and some kids didn’t understand it.

But anyways, I’m noticing alot of people giving me notice when I give them eye contact. My esotropia is sort-of partially controlled- I have to concentrate a bit to see with both eyes. But I think it comes through sometimes. Sometimes I notice really good responses from people when I make eye contact with them, like they are nicer to me. Are they pittying me, or am I making a good impression on them and we are connecting? Because they don’t say anything to me like when I was a kid.

Oh yeah, and I have my journal up. You know there is a journal section, folks. Please, check it out [Daedelus' journal](https://pheromonetalk.com/t/daedelus-journal/13297/1)

Not sure if I’ve got the same thing, but in laymans terms, I have a lazy eye. When I’m tired or extremely relaxed, my left eye will drift off to the left. I did catch some hell for it as a kid, so most of the time, I’ve got it under control. It’s usually when I’m nearing the end of my shift at work that I let it go without caring too much. Whenever I go out, I try to maintain conscious control of it at all times, but that sometimes leads to a headache.

The lemonade from lemons that I get from it is that I can make the left eye move by itself which totally freaks people out. Believe me, in the situations that I do it, this is a good thing. 🙂.

I don’t think people are giving you the positive reactions out of pity. In fact, when I have caught myself giving someone eye contact while the lazy eye is in effect, I notice the reaction is sort of… well, it’s not overt or anything, but you can tell by the look in their eyes that something isn’t quite clicking. I think in your case, the people are able to look beyond what many people would consider odd and are genuine in their behavior.

Lazy eye… yeah, that’s sort of what I have but it alternates between both eyes. I have alternating amblyopia/lazy eye- esotropia is the eye behavior. I wear special glasses with prisms in them to try and increase the “fusion” of images. I can see with either eye individually, but I see much less out of the other eye when I do that. It is very wierd but that’s how my brain works. I usually read with my left eye, and my right eye is dominant when I use both or look off into the distance.

Actually, I’m lucky I can drive a car at all. Many people with nystagmus are legally blind.

Many people with lazy eye go blind in one eye. Look up Jean-Paul Sartre some time, for instance. My parents put an eye patch on me as a kid- alot, so that wouldn’t happen, and eventually I developed independent abilities in both eyes, as well as some fusion of images. It was only a few years ago that I got a SMART optometrist that gave me some prismatic lenses, which should have been done years ago.

I don’t know how noticeable the nystagmus is, because I can’t see it myself. This is a characteristic of nystagmus. When I look in the mirror, my eyes look still. Wkipedia article on nystagmus [Pathologic nystagmus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathologic_nystagmus) . Folks I’ve talked to say they can see it a little bit, especially if I look with only one eye. It’s like a quick “ticking movement” of the eye, very subtle and mine isn’t too exterme usually. When I follow things, my eyes “overshoot” objects more, then come back. I don’t see any of this in my brain. BTW, blind people often have nystagmus in their eyes.

“cross eye” seems alot more common/noticed. Barbra Streisand, for instance, has a “cross eye”. There was another actress from the 70’s (Karen Black) that was famous for having a cross eye as well.

I would have to say they are not really noticing the nystagmus . Normal human reaction in adults to a situation like this would be to break and avoid eye contact as soon as its noticed because it makes them nervous or they just do not know how to react to it. You will also get some who go totally opposite and cant stop looking. Simular to the Austin Power mole scene.

You mention your esotropia is controlled most of the time. Most likely they are not picking up on it and if they do they would react the same way. I dont think people feel pity as much as feel uncomfortable when they do notice someone with your conditions. Usually you can pick up on discomfort cues in people. Once they get to know you the disconfort subsides.
