So jasmine is to hedione as rose is to …what?

In other words, is there an available compound that captures or replicates the aphrodisiacal properties of rose?

To Damascone - that’s probably the main alternative to natural Rose. Several ways to produce it, mainly from decaying Carotines but most recently from some kind of yeast.

Establishing whether it has pheromonal properties or not is something we need to get to work on. I had been experimenting with some Tafi Rose and Musk as a cover before Hedione/Jasmine distracted me and I’d say that as well as being a highly effective and distinctive cover, it may well have added something.

So what’s the difference between hedione and jasmine fragrance? I was thinking they were the same.

And what’s Hedione HC by the way?

Hedione in its current commercial form is a synthetic approximation of the primary Jasmonate molecule.

There are three main forms of Jasmonate, all present in natural Jasmine, so Hedione HC could be an equivalent to one of those.

But how does Hedione compare to the Jasmine Fragrances you tested? Both chemically and in practical terms?

Also, I have searched about hedione presence in some designer EDTs, such as Paco Rabanne Invictus and Acqua di Gio by Georgio Armani, and I find nothing about Hedione in their list of ingredients on the official websites, also I have heard formulas change. So how do I know if they really contain Hedione?

Can’t even trust Billion Dollar Brands these days? =/

Very well indeed - It turned out that I’d been using a Hedione-based cologne as a cover scent for several years and even before I took-up pheros, I had found its attractive properties costing me a good bit of money in shirts that were ripped-off my back or kept as “comforters” by women! 😃

ALthough overally, I think i’m prefering the natural or substantially natural-based Jasmine scents more to my taste due to the interaction of the three slightly different jasmonate molecules and any other pheromonic molecules eg [Neroli](https://a314.com/product-category/scented/androtics-neroli/), in there. Its a much more natural/progressive effect and I’m less prone to skin irritation due to other cologne components.

But yes, changing formulas has always been an issue with colognes. Some do so quite frequently and a few even have dofferent formulations for different markets, which only screws things-up further. ☹

Is [Neroli](https://a314.com/product-category/scented/androtics-neroli/) also present in Jasmine fragrances?

And does it include Hedione? Is it like Hedione plus other things? Being Hedione only one of the 3 Jasmonate molecules?

I am trying to understand the exact differences.

And in terms of results how does it work exactly? Maybe you didn’t try to isolate Hedione

My understanding is that there is yet no synthetic musk that can compare in effectiveness to real musk deer.

[Neroli](https://a314.com/product-category/scented/androtics-neroli/) is a citrus note, from a species of orange while jasmine is the flower of a flowering vine or scrub. You can mix them but they are separate ingredients.

As to my new supply of hedione, I’m considering a fairly simple sexual mix of jasmine on top note, lots of hedione as the mid, and vertiver as base note with castereum as binder and a strong dash of NPA and TAC. Hopefully, the vertiver will keep it from being too floral.

Any suggestions?

Woah, received my Swiss Hedione order today along with a batch of togo bottles. (Since I’m planning to transfer some of my 30ml arsenal and had one defective togo from AD.. ☹)

I’m stunned by how subtle it smells…it’s almost feint to well…nothing?

Got me 97% alcohol at a local drugstore and mixed 3 parts of alc with 1 part of Hedione. Transferred to a togo bottle, left the rest in the bigger mixing bootle. I’ll let that sit for 12-24 hours and try/test tomorrow.

Applied a touch of the fresh togo 3:1 mix on my left wrist, it’s sitting there for about 45 mins now…smell is becoming more distinct.

I don’t know man…but the best I can say is: Smells like a leftover residue of a cup of Jasmin tea…and then 3 days old.

I guess riping it in a solvent should produce more ‘bouquet’.

Maybe gals like old tea scent 🙂. At least, I’m happy to hear it does not smell like freshly-cut flowers.

Let us know about your results using this in public. I’ll eventually do the same in my journal.

Probably a base note or top note could eventually be added to balance the mix. Hedione is a medium note, I’d think. However I am thinking of using this as a mone enhancer, not a full patch perfume so it might be enough. I’ll wait 'til I get a hold of the product.

I’m not in it for the scent…I’m in it for the effect/enhancement it might produce. 🙂

I’ll do the same in my journal. Starting to feel like some crazy alchemist by now though. 😉

Yes, [Neroli](https://a314.com/product-category/scented/androtics-neroli/) is found in natural Jasmine - although at a pretty low level.

Not so much include - Although Hedione is undoubtedly added to some “natural” brands as the price/availability of the real thing can vary significantly.

The differences are put down to the very slight ifferences between the molecule and the way people respond to them in synergy. Hedione, whilst effective can only ever be one of these, with a more simple/direct nature - Which can be good or bad, depending.

Yup - I’m finding effectiveness with very low, barely scented levels, but especially with the naturals - the ASAQ and Malasyan products are giving me results from tiny aplications, although the Malay Jasmine does come in a particularly strong sandalwood base but after that fades, its smiles all the way - just like the random bllnde woman who just about went all her length in front of me a few minutes ago. Staring/smiling/going googly-eyed at me when carrying a tray of food and drink is unwise!

2 sprays 5mcg TUTH and two tiny spots of Malay Jasmine. 😃

This is very true. I used to get the occasional “sample” from a very expensive perfumer when I worked in Geneva in the 1980s. Usually on a Friday and thankfully it lasted a good couple of days on the skin if you washed carefully. The 1980 "ban"only effected mass market products but niche/bespoke perfumers gould still use it till just a few years back. Although of the four synthetic replacements, Muscone and Civetone do seem have some promise/effectiveness in a way that has made me wonder if we are not already using one in the form of a putative (I’m going to hold-off saying just which for now)?

Are you sure about that?

Here’s neroli, from the citrus family:

> **[Neroli](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neroli)**
>
> Neroli oil is an essential oil produced from the blossom of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium subsp. amara or Bigaradia). Its scent is sweet, honeyed, and somewhat metallic with green and spicy facets. Orange blossom water is also extracted from the same blossom and both extracts are extensively used in perfumery. Orange blossom can be described as smelling sweeter, warmer, and more floral than neroli. The difference between neroli and orange blossom is a result of the different extraction...

And here’s jasmine, from the olive family:

> **[Jasmine](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasmine)**
>
> More than 200, see List of Jasminum species Jasmine (botanical name: Jasminum, pronounced /ˈjæsmɪnəm/ YAS-min-əm) is a genus of shrubs and vines in the olive family of Oleaceae.: 193  It contains around 200 species native to tropical and warm temperate regions of Asia, Africa, and Oceania.: 194  Jasmines are widely cultivated for the characteristic fragrance of their flowers. The village of Shubra Beloula in Egypt grows most of the jasmine used by the global perfume industry.

Yes - or at least [Neroli](https://a314.com/product-category/scented/androtics-neroli/)’s principal terpines - Farnesol, Nerolidiol and Linalool. They are found in differing amounts in a great many flowering plants.
