#1 I think most ordinary fragrance wearers and connoseurs greatly underestimate the effect of “body chemistry” on fragrances. All of us on Phero-Talk know what “body chemistry” _really_ is, right? Body funk, _[pheromones](https://pheromonelabs.com/shop/)_. And it varies from individual to individual. Some people have more of one chemical than another. Some people have different bathing, hygene practices, some use scent-free laundry detergents, etc. What smells good on one person might smell bad on another. It’s good to wear pheromones whenever you try out a new fragrance.

#2 Beware of overly cloying/overbearing fragrances. Some fragrances are borderline cloying to start out with. Some fragrances cloying or overbearing tones are actually tamed by pheromones, other times you’ll find they are mysteriously accentuated. Sometimes two different people might percieve a pheromone + fragrance combo totally differently. If in doubt, use a minimal cover scent application that masks the pheromones (and don’t go overboard with the pheromones themselves, either), don’t gas people with an unpleasant olfactory stink bomb.

#3 I think there are few genuinely bad fragrances. Granted I haven’t tried wearing Joop with pheromones (for some reason hardly anybody around here wears it, and I’ve never tried it… but it sounds disgusting at least from the descriptions on Basenotes), but most fragrances seem to be relatively OK. It really doesn’t matter what you wear. In fact today I was wearing a knockoff fragrance (“impression of” Cool Water) and I think pheromones were working just fine and nobody said “oh, yuch…”, quite the contrary. I’ve worn some infamous/debatable frags like Aramis and gotten compliments as well wearing pheromones, and heck, even I enjoy wearing that frag now, I used to hate it. Just make sure other people do indeed like the smell and can tolerate it.

#4 I think for some people a fragrance can accentuate the pheromones and their persona/image. I’m actually right now trying to work out some of my own homemade fragrance oil blends, and also try some infamous/unusual fragrances/colognes from the past and present (BTW I could use some suggestions from the old-timers). In my own case I want to wear something unusual that makes people notice the smell/phero-cloud a bit, and gives me a unique _conscious_ olfactory signature- I believe this is also congruent with my own personality, because I am definitely a unique person, it doesn’t make sense for me to smell like every other person out there. It’s a bit ironic that alot of Androtics cover scents smell similar to alot of mass-market fragrances, becaues I don’t think that’s necessarily such a good idea for everybody to be doing. For me I want something a bit unusual or mysterious- for other people they might want something that suggests \*fun, _or serious/respectable. Just don’t pick something just because everybody else wears it or because it is expensive, so therefore it must be good_. \*

#5 Explore some fragrances. Read up a bit on perfumery just to get the overview/basics, learn about the basic categories like florals, woods, Orientals, fougeres, modern/aquatic scents, and so on.
[Perfume - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfume) . Search out some sample sizes, be willing to try different things, and don’t worry too much about the price- you may find a cheaper fragrance that _works_ just as well as some expensive designer fragrance. Drugstores, Avon, Bath and Body works, etc… look into them all. Likewise, check out some higher end fragrances as well, just don’t limit yourself by price and assume what is more expensive is necessarily better. There are some websites out there where you can order sample sizes/vials/mini-sprays of many fragrances so you could try out a dozen or so for the price of one full bottle. Basenotes is also a good website for reading a review of a fragrance or getting a general description and finding similar fragrances to ones you like, ones that may be more unique to yourself.
